This is what the students can potentially get too as far as skill level. The crowd being disappointed when Qrow stopped changing his weapon was reminiscent of the fans. We all know Qrow is a scythe user but we haven’t seen it in that form yet. We thought with this fight we would. Plus there’s a lot of history between Qrow and the Atlas military, specifically Ironwood and his special operatives, such as Winter. Weiss and Winter are commonly known as the Ice Queens for good reason. There also a lot of subtext during the office conversation that we get later. Winter knows some but not all of the subtext; which is why Qrow questioned her being in the office. Also Ironwood, Qrow, Glenda, and Ozpin have known each other for a very long time.
7:20 - "That is my Uncle!" You're shocked faces were hilarious. But if you recall to the very FIRST episode of the show where Ozpin asked who taught her to fight, she said it was her Uncle Qrow.
@Dominic Kolb yes. In the RWBY world the scythe is a dangerous and unorthodox weapon to use. Dangerous to the user that is. It's why Ozpin was curious where Ruby learned to use it. When she said it was from Qrow it clicked in Ozpin's head how she's able to use it without hurting herself.

Even though Winter is very stern and rigid, in one sentence you learn that she cares for her sister. When she asked how she is doing? and then pops her for going into her grades and classes and not talking about her well being or hobbies. Winter wanted to learn about what’s going on in her life.
Qrow was mentioned in the first episode of Volume One as the one who taught Ruby how to use a scythe, his name was shown at the end of said volume when he messaged Ozpin and again in Volume Two when Yang was telling Blake about when he rescued them when they were younger.
By far one of my favorite episodes of the show. Humor, action, tension, intrigue and "rule of cool" are all top notch here. "If I was one of your men, I'd shoot myself" is a quote I use regularly because of this episode.

I did not lol. For me, it was clear they actually hated each other. They weren't fighting because it was their past time. They're fighting because he knew where it hurt, and he continued provoke her. Winter didn't hold back to the point where she had to be stopped by Ironwood, and if that wasn't enough evidence to the contrary, Qrow's genuine resentment of Atlas and removing her from the talk was. Everything Qrow did from refusing to use Ironwood's title even upon Winter's insistence to the big dismissal showed that he had a severe lack of respect for her.

Even when he's out in the field, he says "Get back!" multiple times, and while that may have been able to be interpreted as "because Purple Eyes (to avoid spoilers) is more skilled," RT made sure to throw that out of the window with "It's not that. It's-" right before falling imminent danger happened (again to avoid spoilers), and given that those who actually listened weren't threatened by its effects, I'd say it's safe to assume the range is far enough to where a decent range is obviously affected, but close enough so that field work can still happen. I remember seeing the reveal of Qrow and Winter as they both amazing characters that brings a shock feature on my face. They seem to be a interesting duo that in my opinion a powerful duo. 😄 I had my doubts of Qrow looking more of a professor look but he got that cool Uncle vibes. While with Winter, I was thinking of a snow empress till now seeing her being a general Solider is a surprise to my eyes. So I can’t wait to let you both see more of both Qrow and Winter as they are amazing characters that their lore is unique.
For clarification, Qrow and Winter were never on a team together. I don't know if the photo in the OP gave you that impression, but I know it did for some. We'll get more details on the rest of Qrow's team, but Winter is an Atlas graduate and now military operative. Weiss attending Beacon is a first for the Schnee family, and was not easy for her to achieve. The suit of armour she fights in her trailer was a test her father set her; she had to beat it to be allowed to attend Beacon instead of Atlas. Not spoilers, just background info not given in the show itself.

Ironwood’s aesthetic was based on the Tin Woodsman, but he himself is NOT the Tin Woodsman, in the same way that Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang are aesthetically based on Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Belle, and Goldilocks, but are their own characters with their own flaws. Ironwood is portrayed as a Paranoid Control freak from the start, this is not new information.

It's hard to pin down ages of characters if they are not given, but Winter is 6-10 years older than Weiss, and Weiss is 17. Can't explain how I figured out Qrow's age, because, spoilers.
A little comment about qrow and winter banging (I also believed that their had banged): qrow is the ruby's and yang's uncle, so it isn't wrong assume he has a similar age that their father's, while winter is Weiss sister. Knowing that yang and Weiss (also Blake) have the same age, we could assume that the age gap is pretty big. If I remember correctly, yang have 17 and ruby 15, so it wouldn't be wrong say that their father has around 40. I honestly don't believe that the age gap between Weiss and winter is bigger than 10 years (honestly, I think winter can't have more that 25), so they banging it's kinda weird because that gap

As someone that took fencing in college it still makes me giggle to this day how Qrow openly mocks Winter's anime style poor fencing form by doing it properly with a greatsword at the beginning of their fight. Hes always drunk ,but apparently he also always has the style of a powerful foothold down. As my fencing teacher as well as primary animation teaccher always said, die ith good form.

I love little details that you kind of have to think about. Like Ruby weighs...I'd say 75 pounds? Maybe more with her having an athletic/slightly muscular build. and Qrow just lifts the arm holding her like nothing. (Another example being Juane's shield. One that size being mainly of wood in our world would weigh upwards of 20lb and his looks to me all metal.

Its funny seeing you guys speculate about the Schnee family. Unfortunately you will have to wait till Volume 4 to have the "pleasure" of witnessing Weiss and Winters father.
Everyone in existence thinks that Qrow and Winter have or will bang. But remember, Winter is Weiss' older sister. She's not much older than her. If I remember correctly (though I don't think it was officially stated), she's about 4 years older than Weiss. Which would male her about 22 here. Yang and Weiss are both 18 in Volume 3, and Qrow, likely having gone to a huntsman academy and graduated, is about 18 years older than they are. Graduation typically happens at about 21-22, so Qrow is at least 39-40 here. So I guess it's POSSIBLE they banged, but I doubt it.

@@tigershark94 I don't think so, partially because his semblance is never shown working that way, and mostly because we know it has a radius of effect, and Winter is way too far away to get without getting the crowd, too.
@@ghostchannel4766 do we what it has for a radius of effect? Because never once do I remember it stated how close Qrow has to be. Given what Qrow’s semblance is, it’s definitely likely it at minimum played a part in the events.
@Fan of Fanfics The exact area is unknown, but by Qrow's own admission, distance affects it. Even when he's out in the field, he says "Get back!" multiple times, and while that may have been able to be interpreted as "because Purple Eyes (to avoid spoilers) is more skilled," RT made sure to throw that out of the window with "It's not that. It's-" right before falling imminent danger happened (again to avoid spoilers), and given that those who actually listened weren't threatened by its effects, I'd say it's safe to assume the range is far enough to where a decent range is obviously affected, but close enough so that field work can still happen.

I remember seeing the reveal of Qrow and Winter as they both amazing characters that brings a shock feature on my face. They seem to be a interesting duo that in my opinion a powerful duo. 😄 I had my doubts of Qrow looking more of a professor look but he got that cool Uncle vibes. While with Winter, I was thinking of a snow empress till now seeing her being a general Solider is a surprise to my eyes. So I can’t wait to let you both see more of both Qrow and Winter as they are amazing characters that their lore is unique.
For clarification, Qrow and Winter were never on a team together. I don't know if the photo in the OP gave you that impression, but I know it did for some. We'll get more details on the rest of Qrow's team, but Winter is an Atlas graduate and now military operative. Weiss attending Beacon is a first for the Schnee family, and was not easy for her to achieve. The suit of armour she fights in her trailer was a test her father set her; she had to beat it to be allowed to attend Beacon instead of Atlas. Not spoilers, just background info not given in the show itself.

Uncle Qrow's fight with Winter Schnee is one of my favorite Volume 3 fights. A showcase what a fully licensed and experienced huntsmen is capable of.

He’s a control freak (partly stemming from his being from Atlas.) He’s incapable of doing the right thing because he is under the delusion that something can’t be correct unless he’s calling the shots.

Ironwood’s aesthetic was based on the Tin Woodsman, but he himself is NOT the Tin Woodsman, in the same way that Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang are aesthetically based on Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Belle, and Goldilocks, but are their own characters with their own flaws.
Ironwood is portrayed as a Paranoid Control freak from the start, this is not new information.
Winter went to atlas academy so she was raised with strict military discipline. and became one of ironwoods elite special ops.

Winter is approximately 25 or so here, and Qrow is supposed to be 41 - 43.
It's hard to pin down ages of characters if they are not given, but Winter is 6-10 years older than Weiss, and Weiss is 17.
Can't explain how I figured out Qrow's age, because, spoilers.
Weiss is 18 here, her birthday is during the first semester, so volume 1.
A little comment about qrow and winter banging (I also believed that their had banged): qrow is the ruby's and yang's uncle, so it isn't wrong assume he has a similar age that their father's, while winter is Weiss sister. Knowing that yang and Weiss (also Blake) have the same age, we could assume that the age gap is pretty big. If I remember correctly, yang have 17 and ruby 15, so it wouldn't be wrong say that their father has around 40. I honestly don't believe that the age gap between Weiss and winter is bigger than 10 years (honestly, I think winter can't have more that 25), so they banging it's kinda weird because that gap

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a abridged version of this show.
There's been a couple, but I personally never been able to get into them.
As someone that took fencing in college it still makes me giggle to this day how Qrow openly mocks Winter's anime style poor fencing form by doing it properly with a greatsword at the beginning of their fight. Hes always drunk ,but apparently he also always has the style of a powerful foothold down. As my fencing teacher as well as primary animation teaccher always said, die ith good form.
Whats amazing is that Qrow is drunk during this fight😂

I love little details that you kind of have to think about. Like Ruby weighs...I'd say 75 pounds? Maybe more with her having an athletic/slightly muscular build. and Qrow just lifts the arm holding her like nothing. (Another example being Juane's shield. One that size being mainly of wood in our world would weigh upwards of 20lb and his looks to me all metal.

Without spoiling too much later seasons will dive more into the dynamic of the Schnee family. Personally Winter has become one of my favorite characters as a result (sadly this journey is still a ways away lol)

Everyone in existence thinks that Qrow and Winter have or will bang. But remember, Winter is Weiss' older sister. She's not much older than her. If I remember correctly (though I don't think it was officially stated), she's about 4 years older than Weiss. Which would male her about 22 here.
Yang and Weiss are both 18 in Volume 3, and Qrow, likely having gone to a huntsman academy and graduated, is about 18 years older than they are. Graduation typically happens at about 21-22, so Qrow is at least 39-40 here. So I guess it's POSSIBLE they banged, but I doubt it.
