Sorry...had to post again. I watched this a second time and laughed harder! Marco, you seem almost angry! Tim's range really isn't fair to the rest of us mere mortals...The best quote I've ever seen came from Jeremy Michael Lewis (Kirstin Maldonado's fiancé), Jeremy competed in the Sing Off the same year Home Free did. Quoted from AcaFanBase..."If anyone out there is wondering, Tim is not a bass. Tim is also not a baritone or a tenor. Tim is a gift from God himself to bless the world with his own category. Let it be known: Mr. Foust can drop bombs that will blow any cannon out of the water, and he looks great doing it too. The only thing more sizable than Tim’s talent is the humility". Pretty amazing stuff there.....And, all of it true! Keep 'em coming guys, I'm loving this!

That's why they call Tim Foust the beast. In one song he can go from the depths of hell that shakes your seat with the equivillent to an earthquake, and then goes into a falsetto in the high tenor range without even skipping a beat. He has a 5 octave vocal range, and he absolutely knows how to use it! I have seen him live in concert many times, and he never ceases to amaze me. When they were on the 'Sing Off' show, the judges... Shawn Stockman, Jewel, and Ben Folds were totally shocked by Tim's vocal range, and they had been doing this for years and years. And even more.... because he made it look so easy to slide from those low, low notes and then slide back into the high tenor range, all within a few seconds. Thanks Guys, I love watching you guys, especially when it comes to Tim Foust.

    • @MrGaryGG48
      @MrGaryGG48 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Cindy, you're right about Tim's seemingly effortless reaching for those "falling out the bottom..." notes but that contest was about 6 years ago. Can you imagine the impact of Home Free stepping upon that stage now and watching the reactions??? It certainly wouldn't be fair to the "normal" contestants but it sure would be fun to watch the judges. While they're expecting the typical "we're pretty good... watch us" sort of contestants, these guys now would just stop the show. "OK, you guys won, now go home; let the rest of these people try to get by!"
Even among the truly talented performers working now, if you're measuring vocal talent, these guys are certainly at the top of the list.

And this is why Tim is my favourite vocalist. A 5-octave range is of course amazing but what I think is extremely rare and impressive is how he sounds consistently great throughout his whole range and how well he can connect his growls, low, middle, high registers and falsetto.
Btw, Tim said his range is about 10 % talent and 90 % hard work. He also said he started out as a tenor, but around 17, his voice changed into bass and since he didn't want to lose his tenor range, he worked extra hard to maintain it.
You two should definitely go to a Home Free concert when they go back to Europe in 2018 and then post a video about your experience. :)

That's what makes the addition of Adam to the group so important. His range is tenor to bass and allows Tim the opportunity to show off his incredible range. Give the group dynamic so many options for different harmonies in different octaves. notice carefully in My Church how Tim and Adam switch off on the bass line. Then pay attention to the arrangement of "In the Blood" where Tim sings bass and Adam has the baritone; then "Castle on the Hill" and "I can't out run you" where Adam has the bass and Tim has the baritone; "Mayday" where time moves into 1st tenor, Rob is 2nd tenor and Adam is bass; then "How great thou art" and they are switching lines effortlessly. The different construction of the different harmonies is what - in my opinion - moves them ahead of Pentatonix. whom I love with their arrangements.

He's so fun to watch too, cuz he just stands there & delivers. When you see him working at it, its all for show. He can hit all these notes with no effort at all. Great reaction guys! They just released a cover of Cam's song "Mayday", where he hits a warm Ab4 in his chest range. Tenor range. An octave and a half lower than normal basses, and he can sing a Bb4, which is nearly the top of a tenor's range. And thats just what was recorded. Imagine him in the morning! His CHEST voice (F1 - Bb4) is 3 AND A HALF OCTAVES!!! Most normal people are lucky to break 2 octaves. Singers often have 2 and a half at most (except for some rarities like Freddie Mercury, who only had just under 3 octaves)

Yeah, we all have the same reactions to Tim. A fun skit they used to do to highlight this in a live show was while performing "Your Man". It starts off as a song meant to show off his bass, but he goes amazingly high in it, which "upsets" (playfully) Rob and Austin, the tenors in the group. You need to watch it to see what he does in response.

After you watch that, watch another short version of the same song live, where he hilariously blows a speaker with the low note...

I've seen Home Free (Tim is in the group Home Free) live twice, and he can absolutely do all of this live. The entire group is amazing.

A full five octave range A0 -A5 is mostly unheard of. A spread like this in the higher registers is also few and far between, but a slight bit more common than in the deep-deep register.
Amazing range. I might get into the upper 1s, but can not comfortably get near the upper 4s since the Army made me scream so much.

If possible, please, watch the individual episodes with the intros and judges' comments (for Home Free). There is a long video with all their performances put together but it doesn't have the intros and the comments.

Tim coaches other basses on stretching their range in both directions. I wonder if he’s got something on YT. If you ask him on his page, he’ll answer you. ❤

Y'all should check out Geoff castonelli from voice play. He has an amazing range for a bass as well. The roundness and how deep he can go in his full chest is outrageous

You should Check out Adam Chance's vocal range. He took over as Baritone in Home Free when Chris left but he sang Bass in another group called Street Corner Symphony and they too went on the Sing Off and came in Second. He's really good and added so much to their live performances. And just like the rest of the guys, he can sing his ass off.

What’s even more interesting is that have u notice that for the lowest notes . He goes even lower when performing live than in the studio which u can do as many takes as u want til it’s perfect. And with the higher notes he goes even higher whiile performing live than what’s recorded in the studio. Like I would think he would singer higher for the lowest notes and lower on his highest notes
