    I can't say I'm a recent widow anymore, as my late husband passed 2 years ago. One of the pc/dvd players crapped out after he passed and my daughter and I couldn't watch any of her favorite DVDs any longer. We managed by signing up for a couple streaming services. But finally after 2 years- I was determined to at least ATTEMPT to get my old dvd player to work with the tv. And thanks to your video- I did it! My now 7yr old is so happy. Thank you for such simple and clear instructions!

    Thanks for explaining this. I have an ancient CRT TV and am wanting to upgrade to a smart TV and am hopeful I will be able to find a configuration for watching DVDs with the audio coming through my old-skool stereo until such time as I can afford a home theater audio system.

    • @kevintalkstech
      @kevintalkstech  ปีที่แล้ว

      If your stereo has composite audio inputs (red/white) I would run a cord from the composite audio outputs from your DVD player directly into the stereo. Then, run just the composite video (yellow cord) into the TV. If you have the ability to use component cables for video (red/green/blue combo cord) I would use that for video since it will be higher quality. I have a video explaining these cords on my channel.

    So if you have the HDMI cable--that's all you need? ,You don't need to hook up the RCA cables at all? Are there different sizes of HDMI for input vs. output? Because I have an HDMI cable that has the connector on one side larger than the connector on the other side. The smaller side on the cable doesn't seem to fit into the HDMI slot on my DVD player.

    Just to add, there is a third option, though whether it's much used in (I assume) the USA I don't know. But here (Ireland/UK/Europe) there's still a lot of call for SCART connection. Maybe you could add that as a separate segment? For any DVD player, at least sold over this side, that hasn't got a HDMI port or indeed a TV that hasn't got one, SCART is another way to go, and it's quite simple.

    Hi Kevin. I have a Samsung Smart Tv to which I have purchased a DVD player. My tv only has the HDMI connection and the DVD player has one. I also have my cable box and sound bar connected. Do I have to concern myself with connecting the cable box to the DVD player or does one have nothing to do with the other. Sorry if the question is confusing. Thank you.

    • @kevintalkstech
      @kevintalkstech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's okay, Brenda. I think I see where you are going with the question. You shouldn't need to connect your cable box and DVD player together. They can run independently of each other. If your TV only has one HDMI port on it, then I recommend buying an HDMI switcher from Amazon or a store. You can also use the component connections on the back of your TV to get a high quality picture as a second option if you just have that one HDMI connection to work with.

      I had this issue. There’s a rca to hdmi converter. One hdmi end goes into your smart tv. Other hdmi end goes into converter box. Other end of converter box goes yellow, white and red wire. Other end of yellow white and red goes to dvr. Then add a device under settings in Roku and tell it which hdmi port your dvr cable is in. Then turn on tv, choose dvr turn on dvr and press play!

      Yea I am mad!!! There is no information all they have to do is just tell us the truth that we have to buy new DVD players and those converters do not work at all I’m pissed and none of these freaks will explain this to you just like everything else I’m sick of all this bull-s&@t information out there that explains absolutely nothing. You’re going to have to buy a new DVD player that’s the only option. all anybody has to do is explain this extremely simple thing. Information is literally the Easiest thing you can give someone but nope they let you waste time and money you don’t have. I’m finding this to be the case with everything on the market now. Remember information is the easiest thing you can give to anybody but they don’t care. You’re going to have to buy a new DVD player or what ever you’re trying to hook up that has rca.

    Hey, I might be asking a question that no one has asked before, but I hope it's something you know or have already done.
    I have 3 monitors or TV screens with RCA Composite inputs & outputs. 2 screens have a built in DVD player while the 3rd is just a monitor.
    So what I want to be able to do is connect each screen to each other via RCA so that whichever of the 2 screens I use with built in DVD player will be pictured on the other 2 screens.
    I know so far that my 1 screen with DVD player when connected out with RCA cables into my monitor with no DVD player it displays the movie fine.
    Here's the tricky party.
    I want to know if I connect my newest screen with built in DVD player "Screen 1", out to my 2nd screen with built in DVD "Screen 2," will the movie also play on the monitor with no built in DVD "Screen 3"
    Keep in mind Screen 1 is connected out to Screen 2, & Screen 2 is connected out to Screen 3.
    Sorry for the confusion & thanks for the help.

But I still want to watch movies too. I do however have a USB port on the front of my DVD player and the back of my tv and I was wondering if I find a two-sided USB cord, if that would transmit my sound and audio to my tv, all while not undoing my cable box? Otherwise I will have to unplug the cable box every time I want to watch a DVD and that can get frustrating. Thanks!

    Nice video. Hopefully you can help me...came close here.
    I just bought a vizio smartcast with 2 HDMI, one place for the white or red cable and then the yellow. I want to connect a liteon DVD recorder with no hdmi. LiteOn tells me I need 'component to HDMI'. I was unable to get on Amazon while on the phone with them (regret that now), to see what exactly I needed and am having problems. Mostly everything on there is composite to HDMI. I really don't know what I'm looking for...cables, small box...? I don't have a lot of electronics knowledge.
    Also, my Sylvania vcr doesn't have hdmi, either. So maybe I need 2 component to HDMI? Walmart had, in store, something could be what I need...around $35. Really kindof afraid of getting wrong thing. May not be able to return it.
    Can you help?
    Thanks!

      Hi Paul, if you’re doing HDMI to HDMI, the picture should show up under one of the HDMI channels when you’re flipping between inputs.

    Does the hdmi cable improve picture quality even if you don't have high definition?

    Hey Kevin....I just got a new HDTV for my bedroom. I have a Sony dvd player with an hdmi cord connection....and I also have a Yamaha sound system for surround sound. It has hdmi connections also. Is there a way to have two HDMI cords coming out of the dvd player that's going into the tv and the receiver or do I have to use the red and white stereo cables intstead of the HDMI cables? I'm alittle confused about that.

    Can you tell me what I need to hook up a Panasonic DMP-BD93 Smart Network Blu-ray Disc Player (only has an hdmi port) to my older magnavox tv. The tv has the red yellow and white ports. The tv is model hd2715-c203, if that helps.

    no one ever tells you what channel or setting to put the TV on and what channel or setting to put the DVD player on.Do you think people just automatically KNOW that?

      Thank you annecarol34. I've been through four of these "how to connect" videos & cannot find one who will thoroughly explain what people need to know. There are many variables, like what to do if your cable does not have a green color. What do the abbreviated letters stand for? My new Sceptre 55" does not say "In" anywhere on the back. We need a tech over the age of 50 to explain this stuff. I will keep looking until my son can call me back.

    I have an interesting question in regards to the receiver and dvd player. My old dvd is a Harmon Kardon DV22 and I want to connect it to my Sony STR dh550. Now the LG 4k TV & Receiver are new and supports HDMI; the connection from the receiver to TV is using HDMI. My old DVD player has composite, RCA, S-video and Optical, but the receiver does not have those connections. Which type of a converter should I get to hook up the harmon to the receiver. (HInt: this model is an open region for all dvds)

    Hi Kevin, My VCR/DVD Recorder has both component out and HDMI out connections on the back of the unit. Could you tell me if both of these connections serve the exact same function or do they do something different from one another? I am trying to figure out if I need to hook up cables to both connections or just one of these connections. Thanks, Tony

    So if you have the HDMI cable do you still need the component and composite cables in order to get the 1080 quality?

    what do you do if you're dvd player doesn't have a hdmi port?

    • @kevintalkstech

      If you have component connections on the back as described in this video, you’ll get a picture like HDMI. Otherwise, you’d either need to use what you already have on the back or purchase a new DVD player
