Cheers for this video. Just ordered Art Pro MPA II. It’s great to see people actually giving help to people who can’t afford to simply buy something to test it out. When I buy something it’s gonna have to be for a long time until I save up to upgrade if necessary, so thank you. (P.s. who disliked this video and why? total fuckery)
When you were using the ART PRO MPA II you had the plate voltage on NORMAL which is basically in starved plate mode meaning the tubes get less voltage delivered to them. When you put the switch to HIGH the tubes will get the full 250 voltage which changes the character pretty dramatically for the better.
the crazy thing is, when I received my winter 2021 copy of the sweetwater catalog list of all the gear I noticed the MPA and put it on my list due to the price range. ART I'm happy you made this video because at this point I'm sold on both items. Great review I'll be tuning in my guy.
I got some helpful guidance about how to drive a pre-amp's tubes. However, I would have liked to hear your thoughts concerning how the pre-amps compared.
if you want it to be an upgrade, use the high tube plate voltage setting. It turns it into a real studio grade preamp which you can hit much harder for clean gain. Check it out ! Altough I have neve style preamps, these remain some of my favorites.....I highly recommend them !
I just ordered one too. And very helpful for this decision for sure was your video, too. Very descriptive and delightful and awesome funcionality live demos. Many thanks, bro. All the best!
Thanks for the video. Just ordered one! In future videos, it might project the differences better to have a section where you A/B a loop through it. Cheers!
For some reason the studio V3 is sounding a bit more interesting on this one, maybe just my taste. I like the way it shaped your voice and it sounds a bit more aggressive. Nice comparison video! Thanks! 👍👍
Great video! Thank you very much my friend. OK maybe this sounds crazy but believe me it will be interesting; how about comparing the ART Studio V3 vs Focusrite Interface’s Preamp vs your Avalon 737 !! This will really help interface owners / budget pres owners to decide whether it’s worth upgrading to a high end pre. But to make a fair comparison you will need to turn off the compressor and EQ on the Avalon :) good luck and I’m really looking forward to watching the video.
Learner Forever I’ll aim to do something like that. That will be a video in which I’ll have to make those files downloadable so that the viewers can hear the differences. I do have a video of the Art Pro MPA II vs the Avalon (mic preamp only comparison). Should be uploading today or tomorrow. I’m aiming to try a few different comparisons during this quarantine period since I’m not cutting in the barbershop for a few weeks.
You are able to make sentences, but why the hell, you say check check check when you turn the knobs ??? How do you want us to hear a difference with check check check ? 🤣
Coca Cola lol if you have any sort of ear, you SHOULD be able to here the characteristics of my voice changing. Shouldn’t be that hard. It’s enough to allow for the listener to know that the preamp can at least do that much. This video would be 3 days long walking through every twist of the mic preamps. But I definitely thank you for your feedback! 😂
Yeah. I haven't heard of any preamp that works that way. There is a lot of silly stuff like that on the internet. That's why I appreciate these gear reviews. With these videos, you get to see what the hardware does and hear how it sounds.
Input gain is coming from the input source, output gain is coming from preamp. Perhaps you are thinking of something like wet/dry when describing "how much of the internal sound of the unit will flow out" You want to set your input gain to where (if you have a vu meter) your preamp is sitting at around 0db consistently then adjust your output to suit the rest of your setup! Clear as mud :)
Yo what about the other preamp they make. The art tube mp project series?? I got that before I saw this and it's on the way. Can you help me out on how to use it?
It should work pretty much the same. I have another video showing how to connect those kinds of mic preamps. Hopefully that can help you get started with it
Thx for doing this video. However that Avalon you have is the real Cadillac. I would love to hear comparison with the Avalon that will be very interesting.
Congrats. You are giving us the information we need. I have a shure pga98xlr microphone and i am planning to connect it through an ART Studio V3 before connecting the mic to the mixer. I want to know what is your opinion about that kind of settings because the pga98xlr has an preamp incorpored and now at days i am obtaining a dry and lightly distorsioned sound. I use that mic over a saxophone and I would like to obtain a warm sound
I recently downgraded from the MPA II to the SV3. The MPA took too much space, space I do not have. I agree with you, though. The warmth of the MPA II is amazing and hard to beat for that price. Nice video!
man your videos are great, NO BS and straight talk. Mad love homie
Appreciate that!

Correct! Also turn the impedance all the way up, supreme quality
@@rylandweet7750 how hard would you push the gain for vocals

Do they both have that feature?
Just pro MPA....hence the price

This answered every question I had about these and then some
Thanks for helping me pick what I need!
IMO, the Pro MPA MkII sounded considerably better. I thought the low-end was fuller, and the overall sound was warmer.
Thanks for the video. Just ordered one!
In future videos, it might project the differences better to have a section where you A/B a loop through it. Cheers!
Appreciate the feedback and congrats on your purchase
Just scored a V3 for 50 bucks used, might upgrade to the MPA II one day, thanks for the video!
I have the MPA 2 and the V3 does more to change the sound than the mp3 or even my $600 Camden EC 1.

Just Stop being cheap and buy a preamp u broke bum
Your v3 sounded very quiet so i purchased a new one but its pretty noisy. It Has a hissing noise with guitar and vocals. Its not a ground hum.
6:20 thanks. great work. I'm thinking of upgrading
Great video, thanks for the comparison!
Helpful. Thanks!
How did the studio v3 come out?
I read on another videos comments that the output is where the tube is driven....
I don’t think that’s ever been the case. The output will normally only determine how much of the internal sound of the unit will flow out.

Nice review brother, detailed as well. That at2020 is a nice mic preamp💯
The v3 gave the mic more clearly for your voice, the mpa ii was aight it wasnt great like the v3,
Is this a pure analogue pre amp? Anyone know?
Thanks in advance

what's the difference between this and the art voice channel tube channel strip?
I'd imagine it's more focused on the voice aspect while this is a bit of both, pull up a comparison
the question is, is this cheaper preamt better than some emulations
I think it would more of a preference thing. These V3 preamps can at times, produce some white noise
AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video my friend! So what ur opinion on this? Upgrade worth or not? Thanks!
I do think it is worth the upgrade. I like the Art Mpa ii over the Studio V3.
