- The remaster of Halo 2 (Anniversary) has been released for PC today. The cinematics have been completely reworked by Blur Studios, so they look fantastic now. The game itself also looks much better, although compared to animations, models and effects of current FPS games it looks a bit weak. Nevertheless, this remaster is a real upgrade, and PC gamers who haven't played the Xbox version yet now have the chance to familiarize themselves with the deep story of the Halo saga.

important note: the original cutscenes were rendered in real time, i.e. they were the same graphics quality as the gameplay. the remastered cutscenes are pre-rendered by Blur studios, so they look much better than the gameplay (which still looks great). i'm not hating on the remaster, i just think there are some people who don't know this

I think Halo 2 remastered should be the benchmark on how to do a game remaster. It does an incredible job at staying true to the source material while still delivering a modern aesthetic.

one thing i appreciate is that they weren't afraid to change the cinematography if it meant making the cutscene stronger. Certain shots stay the same, the same dialogue is used. but to make both those factors even stronger some shots and cuts were changed.

The blue cutscenes are exactly how I pictured halo 2 as a kid since the cutscene looked and felt like a movie
What makes this remaster so perfect is that it is a LITERAL REMASTER. its not like CE where the made certain objects look different and made the elites different and more bulky and also Ce Remaster looked unfinished. Halo 2 Anniversary kept the old look of the game while making it look up to date in terms of graphics. The chief armor still has the same exact tears in the armor like the original, all the enemies have their same looks, hunters look even BETTER, the sound design of the remaster is phenomenal. this is what you call a perfect remaster.
Rockstar should take notes cuz this is how you remaster a game

I preferred the halo 2 remastered because they went above and beyond the call of duty in the cut scenes. While in halo ce all they did was put higher textured models in place. like wtf! Who wouldn't of like seeing a better version of the cut scenes. Plus the game overall is way too bright and it kills the atmosphere in halo ce!
That's why halo 2 remastered is just better! They did good!

As someone who only started playing Halo from 3 onwards (never played CE or 2), Im grateful for these remasters. Am playing through number 2 now and it's awesome. Seeing these comparisons.... I think I'd have struggled to enjoy the original version!
My man you are lucky you had xbox 360 and halo 3 in 2007 or maybe later, at that time i was 3 years old, after 1 year later got my og xbox i had halo ce and another one with cars, at that time my father didn't want to buy me anymore consoles cuz i broke ps2 and a psp because i was a kid and didn't knew anything and now im 18 years old my og xbox still works amazing with halo ce and halo 2 i bought few months ago and recently i got ps3 and xbox 360 for 150€ in total and have halo 3 also, played Halo CE for total 10 years because it was the only game i had in my og xbox after the game with cars broke, Idk why i told you all these but i wanted to take it out for some reason

Holy hot damn~ Having played the original (and gotten attached to it), I can easily say I like both versions. WOW. I am blown away.~
Despite the cutscenes being done in a pre-rendered environment I have to say that they look absolutely gorgeous! From my experience most Halo cutscenes are rendered in real time, however Halo 2's remaster is such an improvement over Halo CE's motion capture cutscenes which feel very janky and weird when comparing it to the original which had similar issues but doesn't feel as bad for some reason. (Halo CE: Anniversary was my first CE experience, I never got to play the original. >.
It's a shame every halo game doesn't have this kind of polished cutscenes...i mean it's a shame in general more games don't have this kind of cutscenes

On PC, you can press Tab to seamlessly switch between the remastered and original graphics, there is no loading screen, not even a tiny pause, it just instantly switches and it's so cool to compare the graphics, I do it all the time when playing it, it's so cool

Im not a player who has played halo since "Halo Combat Evolved" but the graphics rehanced look astounding the amount of work they put into it
You have missed a lot of the story
Somehow Ron Perlman's voice suits the new Hood more than the actual Ron Perlman Hood
The main thing about halo 2As sound design, is that it seriiusly fixed my biggest issue with the original game - it made weapons sound heavy, deep, and loud again. Halo one had such destinct loudness and sound to their guns, then halo 2 comes along and makes all the guns sound soft and light. Just compare the sound to the Halo CE Magnum and Assault Rifle to their Halo 2 counterparts. Halo ones magnum sounded heavyy and deep like a real fucking 44. Magnum, and the AR sounded like a cadence of swift and violent fucking War Drums. Then the SMG in halo 2 comes along, and i remember it soundong like slapping bread together, and dont get me started on the Halo 2 magnums little bitch gun sound. Halo 3s assault rifle sound like a bunch of flapping, so i was so godamn please that Halo 2A came along and made this shit feel HEAVY and loud again. Not just the guns either, EVERYTHING. It truly SOUNDS like a proper sequel to Halo CE. FINALLY.
The Halo 2 Battle rifle sounded lik "Dee dee dew, dee dee dew" and then the Anniversary Battle Rifle sounds like *"BAH DAH DOOM! BAH DAH DOOM!"*

I still can't believe Halo 2 was released to the Original Xbox. It looks like an Xbox 360 game. You compare it with other games released in 360 it's on par.
To me Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 3 had great, clear, visually gorgeous graphics that hold up, I hate Halo Anniversary and thank god they didn't remake Halo 3. On the other hand, Halo 2's classic graphics are charming, but look bland, unfinished, and just not appealing, this is mostly due to the fact that original Bungie was originally gonna use an advanced stencil shadow engine that was shown off at the E3 demo, they cut it because it made the game more linear. The Remastered Graphics are so gorgeous, both in-game and in the Blur Cinematics.

@@ashyoshicharizard3949 Sure in polygon counts and animations they don't hold a penny, but in art direction, textures, bump mapping, and clear visuals, they hold astonishingly well.
@@ashyoshicharizard3949 the graphics may not have aged well in the game, but it's the atmosphere and art direction that have. The anniversary visuals kind of ruin the tone of the original game and only exacerbate the game's issues.

The remaster definitely looks better, but ngl, I like the rougher and more handmade looking textures of the original. The new one is just a little too sleek for me. (And so many lens flares lol)

Gosh idk why but maybe cause I was young and playing halo is such a fond fond memory, and the nostalgia of the times I'd come home and race to turn on my Xbox I mean idk I just don't know what it is about it but I mean foook I still love the original over the remaster, don't get me wrong the remaster is fantastic but I still prefer the original.

Original used ingame engine cutscenes, remaster/remake prerendered CGI, so ofc there is huge difference :D...you wouldnt able to do these kind of cutscenes with ingame engine. I mean many ingame engines do look really good in cutcenes these days, but pale in comparison what pre-rendered CGI cutscenes can be ofc

Graphics looks better than a toystory movie
From the point of view of animation, the original is "livelier". From the point of view of detail, the remaster textures are normal, but the facial features do not match, most likely the models are made in the generator
