Having read the book, I now decided to listen to the talk; very well illustrated, by the way. I am researching this topic from a biographical point of view of its main character. On his death in 1705 there was the argument made that though the plot in detail was wrong, given James II's policies in 1685-8, it was in general correct. I think the two party system has its origin in the exclusion question, not the plot, though clearly the former was heightened by the latter.

James II was not totally bad. Interesting about popish plot.
