Whn you first time arrive to Africa - homeland of humanity - you will love it forever! Amazing safari. my first was in SA. I want more. hello from Russia!
This place took my breath away . I visited in the second week of December 2022 and since then it has haunted me everyday . Just incredible. You have captured the essence of this place beautifully 🙂
Thank you for your presentation. It took me back many years to 1958, when my father who was involved with the National Parks, improving their dirt roads. He sent me to join my cousin inside the Ngorongoro Crater where he had a tent camp not far from the lake. The following morning he sent me to fill the diesel 44 gallon drums in Karatu, but when I reached the top of the rim, I found that it had rained, with the road surface of red soil so slippery, that on going down a gentle slope, the vehicle slipped into the side ditch. I walked all the way back down to the caldera floor, and had to pass the seven lions I had seen earlier, resting on a small rise, obviously well fed. I remembered what the locals had said, not to run and carry on slowly. Just as well they already had their meal for the day.
Likewise, I was there in 2012 and what a magical place to be, hopefully will be back in 2024. Thank you so much for posting this it keeps the return dream alive, one of the most amazing places on earth. And wow to see those servals so lucky. We only saw one and even then, just fleetingly in middle of the Serengeti.
I hope you have an incredible trip when you return next year! Thank you very much for watching. I know - I was left in awe by the servals. Such beautiful little cats! I can't wait to share my videos from my time in the Serengeti. I think the Serengeti has to be one of my favourite places on earth
I felt as if I were there but in the lens of it all, aha! Watching this was just magical Ella! My mum is from Tanzania too, Dar-es-salaam; We're all planning a trip back to Tanzania after many years! We're planning to go on the balloon safari however, I want to also do this too! I honestly wanted to cry watching this but i'll save my tears when I am there, thank you so much!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it and felt like you were there too! Oh wow, that trip sounds incredible. I hope you and your family have an amazing time! Tanzania is a really wonderful country
I'm finally going back to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro after 12 years! This time we are doing Arusha NP, Ngorongoro and Serengeti!! Luxury style.. First time was a brilliant budget camping safari! This time we are also going to Uganda to do the gorillas, chimps and boat safaris and then to Kenya to do some more safaris! So excited!
That's amazing! I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time. Both budget camping and luxury certainly offer their own unique and different experiences. That's so exciting that you're also going to see the gorillas!
It is a good time to go, as the big rains are at Easter and the small rains are in autumn, but take warm clothes for the evenings should you stay the nights on the rim.
Tanzania has huge touring attraction. There huge selous national game reserve situated from half of Tanzania going down through Mozambique. There prenty of different animals there.
@@EllaMcKendrick Just left Selous in Southern Tanz. Not many tourists is correct. This is because there was very little wildlife. Those that are there are not used to visitors yet. I recommend you not go there for a while. Stay to the north. More to see, more to do.
I’ve been to Tanzania three times and each time was pure magic. We need to conserve, preserve and protect the amazing wildlife. Did you use a tripod or a mod pod? Of so, what brand? I usually used a beam bar. I have a Nikon using a 300 and a 400.
Definitely agree with you, Tanzania is an incredible place. I used a manfrotto tripod. It was challenging at first to set up and not the easiest thing to manoeuvre around but it did the trick and I was happy with the results
@@EllaMcKendrick Thanks, Ellla. I meant bean bag, not beam bar. I need to spell check better! I was in Tanzania twice in the early 1990’s and then finally made it again in 2022. I’ve been to East and South Africa ten times and Tanzania is my absolute favorite. Last year I visited Tarangire and the Serengeti. I even saw the Big 5 in one day! ❤️🦁🐘❤️
Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. However, as Ngorongoro Crater is enclosed and there isn't much vegetation for wildlife to hide behind, you'd have to be extremely unlucky to not see anything.
Fantastic recommendation! I actually did visit the Serengeti and have a video coming on it within the next few weeks. One of the most amazing experiences of my life!
You were right in your previous video. This visit has been more incredible than the last. What a spectacular place. This reserve is actually located in a caldera (which is the bottom of a collapsed crater). I recommend that on your next visit to the Canary Islands, you go to the island of La Palma. Where you can see another volcanic caldera (La Caldera de Taburiente). It does not have so many animals, but it does have impressive vegetation and plenty of water. Congratulations for your videos. Better and better.
I'm really glad you enjoyed this video and that you agree with my analysis of the two safaris! Yes, with this safari it wasn't just the animals that made it special but the location too. I've never been anywhere like it! Oh that caldera sounds magical - I've just seen pictures and those of it engulfed by mist do ignite my wanderlust!
Great coverage! Thank you! I am heading there in the next few weeks. What is your camera and zoom specs? How much zoom do you think one needs to get close up shots/video? I have a Nikon D850 with 28-300mm lens. Would that be adequate? Is tripod a must?
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I use a Panasonic GH5 camera with a Leica / Panasonic 100-400mm lens. The GH5 is a micro four thirds camera, not full frame, so that lens is the equivalent of a 200-800mm on a full frame camera. It's hard to advise on how much zoom you need. I don't think I ever zoomed the full way with my lens on this trip. The animals are very well habituated to vehicles so a lot of them are pretty close to the roads. Regarding a tripod, it's perhaps not essential for still photographs but for a video, especially if you are filming on max zoom, it's good to have. At times I did balance my camera on the side of the car and the clips were okay once I added a stabilisation effect in my editing software. I hope this helps you! I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time!
Yeah lions really do lie out just like regular cats! I guess they have no natural predators so don’t fear laying out. Servals hunt for rodents so I’d guess that was what they were going for.
Great video with excellent commentary. Looks like you had a nice day for it too. I was there in 2008 and it was bitterly cold for our game drive. I was intrigued to see that the road leading down to the crater has been surfaced. When I was there it was a steep and rough track that was scary in places. At the picnic area most of our group had parts of their lunch stolen by the black kites and at least one person suffered a head injury from their talons. Perhaps not obvious at first but the animals of the crater are facing an uncertain future long term. Very few animals are able to enter or leave the crater so there is much inbreeding resulting in genetic problems.
Thank you! It was pretty cold in the morning, made worse by the wind. I didn't expect the crater floor to be so windy! Ouch - those kites really are fierce. It's sad indeed about the inbreeding.
Time back, some young male lions arrived from the Serengeti Park side, and chased away the old ones, so a new generation was conceived. Nature always sorts itself, as long as we do not try to interfere, as the weak ones are the first to be eaten. Before trying to remove the Maasai from this area, they should read "In the Dust of Kilimanjaro". Africa can teach us so many things, but for me the most important lesson was that of seeing the "humanity" in the original villages. They had virtually no material wealth, hence no reason for the envy that we see in our present "western" society.
I'm sure you'll have an amazing time! My main camera is a Panasonic GH5 which I believe you can pick-up at a reasonable price these days. The key thing was my lens - a 100-400mm Leica / Panasonic lens which allowed me to view game up close. I do love this camera set-up and am in no rush to change it!
@@EllaMcKendrickThank you! I do not take a lot of "professional" photos and most daily photos are on the latest iPhone. That being said, I do want to invest in an actual camera for the trip so I was leaning towards a bridge of some sort. Right now the leader in the clubhouse is the Sony RX10 IV? Any experience or recommendations on a particular bridge camera?
Hi Ella, amazing video ! Im planning to visit Tarangire NP, Ngorongoro Crater & Lake Manyara NP in late October 2024. In your opinion, is Tanzania safe for female solo travellers ? Hope you can give your insights !

I have a 100-400mm Leica / Panasonic lens for my micro four thirds Panasonic GH5 camera. Because the camera has a 2 x crop factor that's the equivalent of a 200-800mm lens for a full frame camera.
You can visit at most times of year and see so much wildlife! The only times I'd personally avoid are April and May as this is the period of the long rains. September is my personal favourite month however.
They probably would be nervous and would have to be very careful. Lions don't typically see humans as prey but you wouldn't want to take your chances there

I have a 100-400mm Leica / Panasonic lens for my micro four thirds Panasonic GH5 camera. Because the camera has a 2 x crop factor that's the equivalent of a 200-800mm lens for a full frame camera.
Which month is better to visit there?
You can visit at most times of year and see so much wildlife! The only times I'd personally avoid are April and May as this is the period of the long rains. September is my personal favourite month however.
nice video - just wondering why can't the forest department plant trees it should help nature more...
Nice video
Thank you!
what type of camera/video cam were you using?
I use a Panasonic GH5 and the lens I mostly used was the Leica 100-400mm lens which was perfect for capturing the wildlife.
What actually happened????
Nice trip
Thank you!
Hi what lens do you have ? Dan
Hello! I have a mirrorless Panasonic camera and use the 100-400mm Leica Panasonic lens for it. That's the equivalent of 200-800 on a full-frame camera
Nice video , which month was it ?
Thanks! This was in September
Those guys that their car broke down, ain’t they scared a lion is stalking them?
They probably would be nervous and would have to be very careful. Lions don't typically see humans as prey but you wouldn't want to take your chances there
Hi

神よ、タンザニアの乾いた大地にアカシアの大木をお授け下さい‼️
there are acacia trees in the savanna but in the crater this was during dry season.
What was the longest focal distance you uses? mm ?
I used a 100-400mm lens for this video but my camera is micro four thirds so that equates to 200-800mm on a full-frame camera.
thanks! @@EllaMcKendrick

Hi Ella! When are you going back?
I hope to be back soon!

Thank you very much for clarifying!
We like your voice and you too 😅
Thank you!
That's not lake Magadi which is in Kenya across the border. Must be lake Natron
I think there are 2 Lake Magadis. You're right that there is one in Kenya but this one within the Ngorongoro Crater is also called Lake Magadi
In which period did you go?
I visited in September
