@@howlingwolf949 I honestly wouldn’t mind if they released more compilations of the other sonic games. I'm glad I waited on buying Origins, because I knew Sega was going to release a physical version at some point with all of the added content. Definitely going to pick this up!
There were some pretty cool things in this game. If you do up, down, left, right and then start in Sonic 1, you get the classic stage select menu, but then you can raise the emeralds to 7 and get super sonic, as well as change the power-ups to other sonic games - having the flame shield in marble zone and the bubble shield in labyrinth zones...it a damn game changer. I thought it was worth it just for that...but yeah, not having half of the proper music in sonic 3 was miserable.
Knuckles is fantastic in Sonic Cd. The verticality of the level designs almost feels like the game was made for his climbing and gliding abilities. And being able to finally play as Amy in the classics is worth the price alone in my opinion. It just feels so good to use Amy and not just see her as a typical damsel in distress in Sonic CD. And the game gear games, while most of them are kinda not great, are still a fun time!
I mainly bought the expansion for mainly for the game gear games. Not too bad for only 10 dollars imo. I do wish they filled out the whole screen with the border though.
Glad ur enjoying the GG titles, personally I don’t play them. Its due to how cropped and zoomed the screen is. What i’d love to see them do is port the Master System versions of the games (i think its just 1&2 though). Those versions have a normal screen like the Genesis games do.

It's super lame the expansion is included as a DLC code when you buy the physical version. There was no previous version, I don't know why print the carts without it, instead of just including it.
I got mixed feeling for the GameGear games. I mean it's not a part of the physical copy, you NEED to download these games with a download code. So it's sad that this is not a 100% physical release. This is similar to Mega Man Legacy Collection (physical): Vol 1 as a game card and Vol 2 as a download code. On the other hand, when it was clear that Sonic Origins gonna be a digital download release in 2022 I prayed: hope for a physical copy later on at some point, and now it's finally here. 1 year ago we couldn't dream of the GameGear games so I never expected that, that's just a nice bonus but I don't really need that. It's the five games that I wanna have. It's a great compilation! The only main downsides are (for the physical copy): - No MJ in Sonic 3 - The GameGear games are a download code I can truly live with this! But I wish that Sega could have at least put the GameGear games on the physical copy! Never played Sonic 3 so I'm not used to that "MJ music/audio" but I'm sure the replacement music/audio is great. It's not the same but it's a replacement. Maybe Sega could have made that MJ soundtrack and audio for Sonic 3 as a paid DLC for 5-10 dollar or so. But it is what it is. We MJ fans got his albums, some singles, videos and much more. It's not the end of the world that there's a Sonic 3 with MJ's work replaced. Would love to see a video on youtube about all releases of Sonic 3: which ones got the MJ music/audio and which ones got replacemen music/audio? Maybe there's a video already about that, maybe not...
One of the things I DIDNT like was probably the classic mode because it isn’t the original genesis roms and such but instead just anniversary mode with lives and no cutscenes and everything else stays the same. Incredibly cheap to call this a “classic” mode honestly.
Today, June 24th, I get to join RGT as a New York Knickerbockers Fan. Not fanatic, but fan... My inner John Starks is rejoicing. Still, I'm as cool and calm as Jason Kidd in his final season, the last time they had a chance at anything. Goodbye, Train Conductor. May you forever remember what the word "consent" means.
I hope that SEGA continues to update the collection, aside from the controls and nitpicks I do want more games to be added like Knuckles and the Chaotix. Also, I really think that if they added Eggman and Metal Sonic as playable characters with a couple of additional 2d drawn cutscenes for the villians side of the story would make the collection unique. btw I have pre-ordered my copy and cannot wait to experience more.
Game Gear always had stereo panning with headphones. The problem is that they slapped some kind of psuedo-stereo and reverb effect that washes out and garbles the clarity all sound which is stupid. At the very least give us the option to turn that crap off.
One thing not mentioned is that both Amy and the 12 Game Gear games are not on the cart. That content comes in a voucher which means the only stuff that is on that cart is the original version of Origins.
They need to include the master system version of some of these games. Sonic 2 on the master system is a different experience. Just having a higher resolution fixes all the problems.
I’m salty over the fact they used the Sonic Jam Hub World Music for the Main Menu. I wish they went Sonic Jam Style for this compilation by including a lowpoly hub world. To pay homage to the Sega Saturn. Ngl, I wish they also included the Dreamcast Titles. But that’s probably pushing it?
You know... the "brand" of Sonic the hedgehog just turned 32-years-old. Everyone throws the term "brand-new" around. I just wish we could get a more accurate way to describe something that's new... "It doesn't have new branding, but it's 'brand-new'!" I've been making it my business to remove that term from my vocabulary just based on how much it's over-used. Back in the day, we'd at least hear "all-new." I hate to be so negative. but I disagree on several points. 4 re-releases of re-mastered games that are all 10 years old, and emulated games that are almost 30 years old should not be $40. Sonic CD's remake came out in 2010. If they're gonna pack a game gear emulator, why not a genesis emulator for Sonic 3D blast and the other genesis games that didn't get remade? I don't even think any is fun. Her spindash sprite is 2 pixels off the ground, and she has an extension attack, like Sonic's insta-shield in Sonic 3.... But it doesn't protect her. It also feels like she can't jump as high and she just feels like gimped Sonic. I feel like this collection could have been better.. Especially for the asking price of $40+tax.
The fact that they didn’t put the actual sonic and knuckles game on there, not sonic 3 & knuckles which is just sonic 3 with knuckles as a playable character or the sonic and knuckles cartridge with the sonic 3 cartridge on top of it, is very disappointing for me 🤷🏾♂️
I think it was worth it, it's kind of like a deluxe package of old school sonic. The content they force you to download to get the whole game is kind of questionable though
When I was like 8-10 sonic and knuckles had just dropped and I got it. I went over to play it at a friend's house and after playing it for a while, I let him borrow it and he let me borrow Shinobu. The next day that mf moved and I never got my sonic and knuckles games back or played it ever again. Now 28 yrs later I finally get to see what all the fuss is about 😂
I think MK is why a lot of people went SEGA. The Sonic games look great, I'll hold off for now. I had a game gear and sega cd, so seeing these games is definitely tempting. I do have a mini genesis and I definitely can't play Sonic like I used to lol
Often the problem with these collections is that the people who put them together don't have the necessary knowledge to pull it off well. The Game Gear only had one good exclusive Sonic game, i.e. Sonic Triple Trouble, and that's the only Game Gear title that needed to be in this Switch collection. Sonic 1, Sonic 2 and Sonic Chaos were released on the Game Gear but they were far better on the Sega Master System, and it's a shame that this collection features the inferior Game Gear versions, which suffer from game-breaking screen crunch. It would have cost Sega nothing to include the versions that allow you to see more than one inch ahead of your character, but the people who compiled the games obviously didn't even know that the Game Gear versions were different from the Master System ones.
Sup @RGT85 I’d love to see a video on which Sonic game you like the best on switch or ranking of all the Sonic switch releases IF you have the time & think the video would do well 🙏🏽
The only bad thing about this updated collection is it doesn't include Knuckles Chaotix! It's an underrated sequel with a super fun gameplay mechanic and one of the best mid-90s video game soundtracks! This could have been a good opportunity to finally update the game with widescreen support, playable Sonic and Tails, and even a better ending with something like a cutscene!
yes worth it. wish master system versions of 8 bit games were an option but is what it is its fine. sonic 2 gg audio needs fixing and sonic cd audio needs fixing its too low compared into and outro. be nice to see sonic 3d and spinball.
Im 38 and i have been playing sonic forever and finally because of the try again system for the chaos emeralds i have finally changed to supersonic for the first ever time😂
*its fast, its fluid, its frantic " "Its rushed, its lackluster, its throwaway" Theres a parallel between the games reviewed, nd the guy reviewing the games 🤔
Sonic 1 SMS and Sonic Chaos were really the only ones officially released on Master System tho. Sonic Blast was a Brazilian exclusive if I'm not mistaken, and Sonic 2 SMS and Triple Trouble were both fan ports from GG to SMS. I've only played the Master System versions myself, but supposedly the Game Gear version of Sonic 2 SMS is superior with a higher framerate.
40 bucks and I get the 4 main line OG Sonics with enhancements and new characters and all the Game Gear games? If anyone thinks that's too steep a price, they need smacked upside the head. Buying this immediately.
yeah i immediately recognize the flaws and they do make the collection less enjoyable to me but overall it's pretty solid and i enjoyed my time with it
Think Sega needs to patch the audio on the game gear titles and adding in a few extra games in it like knuckles choatix, sonic arcade game, and a few others. It's an improvement on the oringnal realase but mega collection plus on Ps2 had more games to offer that came out in 2005 lol.
I don't get why they don't aim to release all this on Switch Online. Love Sonic love seeing more games and more content being put into a sonic collection game. Find it sad this hasn't been done yet often a cheap half assed collection being put together. And since RGT reviews them all get a good glimpse at them.

The only main downsides are (for the physical copy):
- No MJ in Sonic 3
- The GameGear games are a download code
I can truly live with this!
If it wasn’t for the water levels sonic would be perfect
I disagree. Labyrinth Zone doesn't deserve all the hate it gets imo.
Sonic would say "Later" ✌️ to RGT85 about this topic 😅
it’s on sale at gamestop for 20-25$ with all the extras. I got it for ps5 and switch lol
3:28 nah rgt85 I still love the Japanese soundtrack.
Game Gear always had stereo panning with headphones. The problem is that they slapped some kind of psuedo-stereo and reverb effect that washes out and garbles the clarity all sound which is stupid. At the very least give us the option to turn that crap off.
AGREED The Sonic CD U.S. Soundtrack is underrated!
That Billy Madison reference at the end was great😂😂😂
One thing not mentioned is that both Amy and the 12 Game Gear games are not on the cart. That content comes in a voucher which means the only stuff that is on that cart is the original version of Origins.
Sonic origins plus upgrade is absolutely fantastic 🎧😍
They need to include the master system version of some of these games. Sonic 2 on the master system is a different experience. Just having a higher resolution fixes all the problems.
I’m salty over the fact they used the Sonic Jam Hub World Music for the Main Menu.
I wish they went Sonic Jam Style for this compilation by including a lowpoly hub world. To pay homage to the Sega Saturn.
Ngl, I wish they also included the Dreamcast Titles. But that’s probably pushing it?
Was the original ice cap zone and lauch base zone music added back into sonic origins plus???
8:10 I love the reversible cover
You know... the "brand" of Sonic the hedgehog just turned 32-years-old.
What about the fact that all the DLC content is for download? It’s not included in the cartridge.
The fact that they didn’t put the actual sonic and knuckles game on there, not sonic 3 & knuckles which is just sonic 3 with knuckles as a playable character or the sonic and knuckles cartridge with the sonic 3 cartridge on top of it, is very disappointing for me 🤷🏾♂️
I have it hearted, when it goes on sale, im gonna pop on it.
It's good to be able to play Sonic CD on the go so that's a plus for me and I think it's worth it and I bought it on launch date 😎🤘
Oh yeah I also like playing the first Sonic the Hedgehog game as Knuckles 👍
"It's good to be able to play Sonic CD on the go" 2011 version on mobile: *Am I a joke to you?*
Unfortunately the Game Gear Games and Amy are not in the cartridge 😥
I think it was worth it, it's kind of like a deluxe package of old school sonic. The content they force you to download to get the whole game is kind of questionable though
When I was like 8-10 sonic and knuckles had just dropped and I got it. I went over to play it at a friend's house and after playing it for a while, I let him borrow it and he let me borrow Shinobu. The next day that mf moved and I never got my sonic and knuckles games back or played it ever again. Now 28 yrs later I finally get to see what all the fuss is about 😂
On Sonic Origins, I don't get why the graphics look so fuzzy/blurry? I want sharper pixels instead of it looking like composite or something.
I think MK is why a lot of people went SEGA. The Sonic games look great, I'll hold off for now. I had a game gear and sega cd, so seeing these games is definitely tempting. I do have a mini genesis and I definitely can't play Sonic like I used to lol
The game is also available on other platforms like XB or Playstation... but since you're a Nintendo TH-camr, I can understand :P
I still think they should of called it the "Sonic Jam-iversary Collection"
3:27 I know we're in the minority here, but I too prefer the a American soundtrack. It's so amazing.
They could have called this the Sonic Game Gear collection, and I still would have bought this.
Sup @RGT85 I’d love to see a video on which Sonic game you like the best on switch or ranking of all the Sonic switch releases IF you have the time & think the video would do well 🙏🏽
Are all the games on the cart or do you have to download them?
Does this have custom button mapping like the TMNT collection on Switch?
I have Sega Genesis Flashback but it doesn’t have Sonic 3 is this worth it for me on my Switch?
I'm so hyped for Sonic Superstars alot!!! Please take my money. I am 100% pre ordering it. I also want to snag this game. Thank you for the review.
Knuckles chaotix is awful
5:29 that’s cool; I didn’t know sonic had a racing game back then. I thought they started with the sonic racing on ps3.
I have played Sonic for the Sega Master System and that was fun as well.
yes worth it. wish master system versions of 8 bit games were an option but is what it is its fine. sonic 2 gg audio needs fixing and sonic cd audio needs fixing its too low compared into and outro. be nice to see sonic 3d and spinball.
RGT hope you're doing good bro!
Im 38 and i have been playing sonic forever and finally because of the try again system for the chaos emeralds i have finally changed to supersonic for the first ever time😂
*its fast, its fluid, its frantic "
"Its rushed,its lackluster,its throwaway"
Theres a parallel between the games reviewed, nd the guy reviewing the games 🤔
They really should have used the Matter System versions of some of those 8 bit games. Annoying how much thru neglect them.
@@zusk8556 Sonic 2 SMS was also official. Canned out the same year as on Game Gear.
I think it’s a really good collection
I have been getting mixed messages if the bugs were fixed in this game or not.
Was sonic & knuckles not included on Origins or Origins Plus? Or did he just forget to mention it? Or was it implied when he said Sonic 3?
It's the combined experience Sonic 3 & Knuckles. But they added in the "big arms" boss from sonic 3 by itself
I’m enjoying it so far. Gonna play through story mode then dive Deeper into the game’s individually.
Knuckles' Chaotix is the only 32X game I own...if you don't count the Sega CD 32X version of Night Trap (which is like half a 32X game).
40 bucks and I get the 4 main line OG Sonics with enhancements and new characters and all the Game Gear games? If anyone thinks that's too steep a price, they need smacked upside the head. Buying this immediately.
I’m glad I waited to buy sonic origins for the plus for the physical copy on the switch
I have sonic origins it's great to me. I'm a big sonic fan as well. Great collection.
yeah i immediately recognize the flaws and they do make the collection less enjoyable to me but overall it's pretty solid and i enjoyed my time with it
Think Sega needs to patch the audio on the game gear titles and adding in a few extra games in it like knuckles choatix, sonic arcade game, and a few others. It's an improvement on the oringnal realase but mega collection plus on Ps2 had more games to offer that came out in 2005 lol.
on sale for 20$ brand new at gamestop
I don't get why they don't aim to release all this on Switch Online. Love Sonic love seeing more games and more content being put into a sonic collection game. Find it sad this hasn't been done yet often a cheap half assed collection being put together. And since RGT reviews them all get a good glimpse at them.
it's too expensive, It would be worth picking up for something 10-15 quid
What about 24 bucks?
The game gear was stereo but you need headphones for it, just like the game boy.
There was no reason not to put on ALL of the old games. And using the GG games instead of the Master System versions of them is inexcusable
I picked up my physical order for this game yesterday and got my first error code when I tried to redeem the physical copy for my gold points error code 2016-0415 and it says this you cannot collect points for this software in the country/region currently set for your Nintendo account and my region is USA and my physical copy is a USA region
Do you know if the game gear sonics the same as the master system?
So do the games have HD Rumble like in the Sega Ages set?
Damn RGT u got me I wasn't going to pick it up since I own so many of the other collections on the gamecube and other consoles u said they got the cartoon on there 👀 I'm like I don't got that guess I go to pick that up in the morning😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hi for anyone that sees this comment I have a question when sonic or knuckles or amy goes into a spindash and it’s like a plain color for example Sonic’s is blue so like he’s a full blue ball when rolling how do I get that because I’ve tried that on mania too and it never worked but I’ve seen people do it in origins and it hasn’t worked either the main question I have is how do I get that or is it a thing that some games have and some doesn’t
Example: 2:50
Being rgt85’s friend is worth it because he is awesome
I thought it was because he own a lot of Nintendo games.
