Saw you made it to slab city on your fb page the other day. Glad to see the video posted. I'm glad you realized the destination was not the only goal of the trip but the experiences along the way. You have accomplished a lot getting there and had a safe journey! Congratulations!! Will be watching for updates. Be safe and have fun!!!
Congrats Eric on passing a milestone in your life. I didn't know anything about the Salton Sea but thanks to you I now do. I am looking forward to some videos from down there. Be safe.
Epic! Loved how you didn't use any music in the vid, helped build the tension. So glad you made it. I'll be pulling in to the Slabs for the first time Sunday , this got me super excited! peace
Great video Eric. You always seem to be so excited when you are driving, like full of wonderment, at what you are seeing, for the first time. I'm sure i would be like that as well. Good luck, and keep that positive attitude going.
"What?! The video is over???! You're finally there dude! Keep filming!" I said to my wife. We've been watching your videos for quite some time. What a great trip. Can't wait to see what you learn and discover at The Slabs!
I love this video Eric I am happy for you and Jax. You are about to hit 10,000 subs and I am glad to be one. This will make your channel just keep on growing. I am living my fantasy life through you guys so keep up the fun and make me jealous everyday !!
I know this video is several days behind, but I'm glad you and Jax made it to The Slabs safely. Have a great time. Thanks for bringing us along on this amazing journey. Peace!
I lived in 29 Palms most of my chilhood. I'm now in the Mid West and I'm missing home. Thank you for the great shots of the desert I so love. I think the dirt runs through my veins. As I type this, snow is falling where I am now. :( I would much rather be in Socal right now.
So happy you and Jax got there safe.... I smiled when I saw the Welcome building and Salvation Mountain... Hope you meet up with Mike from Living Free... He can school you on Slab City... Enjoy your stay..
Luna and Grungy - my two cats - and I have been watching you and Jax from the beginning. They recognize your theme song each evening. We all want to say 'well done' on reaching Slab City. Arriving without background music or other fanfare, a nice subtle touch.
Kinda wish u had a Pics O all the nice peeps that helpd on the way . Congrats on makn it 2 the big city . U sounded like a kid in candy store . Keep us posted on yr latest please . Stay safe n take care
Lots of eclectic artwork... great sculptures... some of our artist friends have contributed over the years to some of the artwork you'll be viewing... wild stuff...
When we drive to Florida and start seeing palm trees it makes me feel me are in a totally different place. But then again the moss growing in Georgia makes me feel that way too.
Have you thought about asking the bakeries for food grade five gallon buckets with lids, it is safe to store water in those. 5-6 could be an extra week for you. Every trip you have to make in for water will cost you in gas. I am not sure what kind of room you have under your RV for storage but years back we had a 35 gallon water supply tank that was like a bladder tank. It inflates as it fills up. I have seen them online for bathtub water storage for disasters. Hurricanes etc. It is a cheap safe way to store water. You will learn if you are nice to people and there is just one of you and not a whole caravan of people . That they will be more willing to help u out. Very nice thing they did.
I'm glad you made it to Slab City Eric! If you wanna check out a cool place go up near the town of Mecca. Just east of that town there's a place on Native Indian Reservation called the "Slots" or "Ladder Canyon" it's a really cool hike thru a slot canyon. Ask the locals about it I'm sure they can easily direct you to it. You can drive your RV there with no problems. Have fun!
Awesome vid dude....will you show more of slab city ? ..... The anticipation was palpable in the video ! Brilliant ! Real life mad max and Jax :)) .... Gotta say I've got loads of channels that I subscribe to, but yours is the first that I check on, when I hit TH-cam :) many thanks and best wishes !
Ah man I was hoping to see the area you picked to park in..oh well something to look forward to on your next video. Sure looks like where I need to be this winter lol
Thanks for the vids, can't wait for your videos on the Slabs...Do you have a title for your documentary,or a a theme ,on what you're going to look,or film for, like :why most people are there ? I was curious or woundering if its job,or work related ,or if its just nomatic type of a people..Thanks Eric ! I look forward to your videos, everyday!
sweet hope you enjoyed it, I would so go there if it wasnt so far from Illinois, well I gotta head out and work on my camper today its big wopping 40 degree here for the next couple days..maybe Ill start doing Vids on fixxing it up........Peace
Out of thanks for all your great videos and for other channels great stuff I make it a point to watch all the Advertisements in full. Cuz I Kno that this will benefit you the channel providing such great content and others like you too. This is the least I could do to give you my thanks and praises and if Everyone would watch the Ads on the channels they like, This would greatly further independent channel content providers and encourage this great quality. Meooooowwww to JAX
We are currently at a Awesome RV park in Paramp, NV. First and foremost thank you for your videos. I have enjoyed watching you do your thing. We recently decided to go Full Time in a RV. We are in a 5th wheel and love it. We are here until January and are starting to make plans for where to go next. Thank you for choosing Slab City. We are about 7 hours away and would love to take a look.
Epic Eric, I'm proud of you brother. Just think if you had doubted yourself or listened to the haters, good job man! Now go get drunk with Living Free!
Non-native palm trees is incorrect. In the eastern part of that valley, the Coachella Valley, there are date palm groves, planted, but the climate is same as middle-eastern desert date palm groves. C.V. High school mascot is the Arabs. All types of palm trees are from that eastern part of the valley, transplanted to western parts such as Palm Springs. Yet Some are totally indigenous. There canyons galore with Palm oasis spots, and in open desert such as Thousand Palms, Ca., in that Coachella Valley.
Way to go, Man. You made it!!! So worse case, its 50 miles round trip to dump, and refill tanks. Should be able to do that for less than $30 in gas? I would invest in more portable water cans… and I know they are expensive, but have thought about asking for donor/sponsorship for a composting toilet? That would probably cut your drain and water trips by a large factor. That would free up your black tank to use it as another grey tank
Buy a pricey composting toilet? You can make your own composting toilet very cheaply. Nothing much to them. Pricey one's are for the slow people who can't figure out how to make their own. Kind of like a fine for being unable to make one yourself.
sailingsolar If ur talkin about a bucket of sawdust, no thanks. I want my wastecto fully break down, so i can return it to the landscape safely, vegan diet required of course...
sailingsolar I just wondered if there would be a company that Eric could find to endorse to get a free one from them. I agree they are way over priced for the material and design. Making one would be a great idea if it worked as well
Happy you made it to the 4 years ago. It's changed quit a bit. There are lot of nice people out there who at no fault of their own have had their lives and their health changed. The EcoMedia Compass and local communities have started their own restoration, any support helps. Fyi the sea is 360 Square miles in size 55 feet deep, holds a little over 6 million acre feet of water, it's still a class a swimming area. 👍 And if you could launch a boat sale accros it's 33 miles. This is the home of the great white American pelicanand 430 other spices of migrating birds. It is home to about 44 million 🐠. Hope you liked the slabs. 👍
I like piece on the Salton Sea , upon further research to learn that it lies on the San Andreas fault line, among other fault lines. Since the San Andreas runs up to Washington from California...and the various underground activities that thus occur. I always enjoyed learning how these work. :-)
Hi, Good to see a full-timer out there seign the flipside of things! I'm curious if you will be editing this a little. Sometimes tightening the edit makes a video flow better. Not trying to complain, just think this could be about a 7 minute video, and you wouldn't lose any heart or soul of it. I'm not trying to be some wanky film critic, we already have too many f them on this site. Thanks for sharing Slab City, Salvation Mountain and East Jesus with so many!! Happy RV travels to you and your cool cat too!
You love palm trees? I grew up in CA. They make a terrible mess in heavy winds (aside from the danger-they have teeth-like barbs on the side, imagine getting hit by one blown off a tree).
I also love palm trees. But my favorite aspect of Salton Sea is the birds. Also, some of the most beautiful views are towards dusk. The pelicans seem to continue gliding around as long as there is light.
Not to nit-pick, but Niland's elevation is about minus 140 feet, as opposed to plus 1400 feet. Anyway, congrats on making down to the Slabs, and I'll be watching with great interest to see how you get along. Maybe we'll see you on stage at The Range? :-)
I think the only palms native to CA are the California fan palms. They are native to the Palm Springs area. They grow near desert springs. They are the tall palm trees that you see all over southern CA. In places like LA, they were introduced.
If I may... People are so scared of being by themselves. Cooking, cleaning, maintaining the upkeep involved in a home for Urself & Jax- some couldn't fathom the thought. What YOU enjoy, is entirely reliant upon YOU. Key word here. YOU! Some folk are so use to doing what they are told to do, that they accept the mundane, rigorous, life in a shell of a body, existence that THEY lead, as law. So they leave mental-midget comments, hoping to piss U off so that U can feel how they do constantly. Subbed! Fuck em, right in their necks.
So in essence what you are saying is.... "You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it. " - Morpheus, The Matrix.
When your traveling is the extra weight of all the tanks being full negatively affect the handling and mileage of the RV? Is it much different if you have the only the fresh water tank fill and the waste tanks empty ?

Deb Allen it was doing it to other channels i watched, so dont think even the channel owners knew what was happening when youtube was changing systems..:)
I'm wondering if you get a notice that someone commented on this older video - back from 2014. I loved the one I watched yesterday about JAX. He reminds me of my cat Metaxa - same coloring.
Finally you made it.I got a question...If some one go over there, just go and choose where ever wanna park or find a place to park with out ask no body? It's like if I go I can choose a place to park my van and that's it?No questions at all?I'm just a little curious.
Yeah, you can park anywhere but you have to be considerate of others already there... Make sure there is plenty of space between you and your neighbor... You can stay as long as you want..
Park at the church or the information booth, and go walk or bike around. No need to have neighbors if you don't want, but there are some good communities out here. Don't walk into their camp, but you can say hi from a distance, and they might come over and talk to you so that you can both decide if the other minds your company.
Rick jobs Slab City is not BLM land. It is California State land that is kind of in a weird spot as far as jurisdiction goes. Its all explained here: www.slab-city.com/ Laws still apply but there is no setup for services etc. Or any one to collect any form of rent.
NO water directly at Slab City, not at Niland or the other RV parks. That I assumed you already knew with your research. A lot of RV parks in that area, since you're also near Joshea Tree National Park (Twenty-One Palms). Great place, where they filmed and still film Westerns and the old Star Trek Episodes. Slab City was once a Military base, which was abandoned many years ago... Some of my friends go RVg to the Salton Sea, etc. Stay safe and with people you know and trust at Slab City... have fun...
Eric-Glad you made it to the slab's,safe and sound.I will be looking forward to seeing your next video.Time to set up and party......
GOOD JOB!!! Really happy for you. Thanks for all the videos, I have had lot of fun with them!!! Have fun and enjoy!!!

What a beautiful view driving up on the Salton Sea! WOW
I like how your GPS gives you a pep talk and a safety warning before you leave!

That is one of my bucket list destinations for sure.
Look at those mountains. Must be some sweet mountain biking up there in those hills...
Yes, they are a military target range, off limits to people.
You made it! What a trip!

Glad you are putting some of the things to rest that we all heard about the slab
I can't give away all the secrets or I'll get beat up, but I will share common understanding that I found vague in my own research.
Nomadic Fanatic
You will get beat up?
shit not if they want their fix they won't be

Would you mind talking about how much your monthly expenses are? I'm trying to get an idea of how much it will cost
Congratulations Eric....and Jax !!
Great. Can't wait for the meeting of the nomads. Rubber Summit? What do we call it.
Epic Eric, I'm proud of you brother. Just think if you had doubted yourself or listened to the haters, good job man!
Now go get drunk with Living Free!
Yeah, have you spotted Mike yet?
:-)

I expect to get about 15 days out here before going in to town for those needs. :)
That's excellent advice right there. Composting toilets are the way to go though pricey, plus you get the bonus of another grey tank....
Buy a pricey composting toilet? You can make your own composting toilet very cheaply. Nothing much to them. Pricey one's are for the slow people who can't figure out how to make their own. Kind of like a fine for being unable to make one yourself.

Congratulations! You made it 👍🌞
Congrats bro! Glad you made it safe!
lol, looks just like Vegas, only without the bright lights, casinos and excitement!
Looks a little sleepy. Guess we'll wait for the zombie attack after dark. Glad you made it,stay cool.

The scene where both you and the cat are looking around as you drove in was a riot.
Used to hang in El Centro eons ago. Never knew about the Slabs. Thought it was neat that area is over 200 feet below sea level.
Glad you made it! It looks like the middle of nowhere. How's the cell phone reception and your new hot spot gizmo?
Not to nit-pick, but Niland's elevation is about minus 140 feet, as opposed to plus 1400 feet. Anyway, congrats on making down to the Slabs, and I'll be watching with great interest to see how you get along. Maybe we'll see you on stage at The Range? :-)
Without the water, the sea is deeper than Death Valley. I thought his report of 1400 feet was way off the mark. Much of the area is below sea level.
We always boondock on the other side of the sea. A great place!
Wow...ominous quiet ending. Tension mounts waiting for your next post!
cruise ship ad was a hoot!
First thing I thought of when I saw "Salton Sea" was the movie that Val Kilmer did called ,"The Salton Sea" -2002 It's a really good movie
Keep up the good work thanks doug
I can read cat thoughts and Jax says, "get me the hell out of here"!
lol jax was looking for the grass that doesnt exist poor kitty
adamgc73 Actually I think he thought he was seeing the largest litter box ever. He was like "I canz poop anywhere!"
I think the only palms native to CA are the California fan palms. They are native to the Palm Springs area. They grow near desert springs. They are the tall palm trees that you see all over southern CA. In places like LA, they were introduced.
great info. again
Good Info ...I might side out there after New Years ..
Did it cost anything to get in the area when you were going to the Salton Sea, just wondering and many thanks for the videos.
Cool trip Eric. Please show us what there is to do around there. Thanks
Hi Eric. Up until this point in slab city, what has the best part of the journey for you?
Eric, could you do a tutorial video how you get two videos in one video. A step by step will be awesome. From filming to editing to producing.
All for a $5 donation huh...Awesome!! GREAT FIND!

+Liam Duff well said!!!
Congrats man, you made it
U can just park and live anywhere in slab city? Or do you have to check in first with someone about an open lot/space?
❤❤❤🐈❤❤❤love u vidios 👌👌👌❤❤❤
Washington looks way more interesting. but to each their own. have fun :)
Proud of you dude! Now relax
When your traveling is the extra weight of all the tanks being full negatively affect the handling and mileage of the RV? Is it much different if you have the only the fresh water tank fill and the waste tanks empty ?
I haven't really tested that, but you could be right.
OK , just wondered about your experience .
I had the volume down for the whole video so I have no idea what you said along the way. I like your camera setup while moving and it really looks like Jax has really adapted well to your lifestyle. He seems to enjoy sitting and looking out the window as you drive. Be safe.
What does it cost on average for fresh water fill up including dumping the waste water dumping?
Wow, congrats! Jax looks nervous (hey, you look tense as this video closes...) How did you decide where to stop?
when you change folders on youtube it marks it to me as not seen and voila you have new views, what a concept...:)
+Steve Nash That's what I was thinking. A win win for the Nomadic and Jax.
Congrats man!
How is Jax liking the new litter box? Is he going in it?
Finally you made it.I got a question...If some one go over there, just go and choose where ever wanna park or find a place to park with out ask no body? It's like if I go I can choose a place to park my van and that's it?No questions at all?I'm just a little curious.
It's BLM land. You and the rest of the US own it.

The portable hot spot unit you have , is that just for your use or could others tap into your network if you gave them access ?
I can have up to 5 devices, or set up a separate guest network with temporary password key for 2 additional users.
Thanks for the information
awh! wanted to see the Sea up close when you walked up to it! you never turned the camera around so we could see it
I hope its what you expected it to be. Good luck!!
