- The Para 3's that are in my collection and which one do I put the micarta scales on? Do the scales look better with satin or dlc?

Ill never understand how every $20-$30 Chinese knife made can have perfect centering and a perfect action but Spyderco cant center 3 out of 5 blades in $120+ knives.
The 4v is a must have. Still highly desired . Nice collection .

Hope your back is doing better. My wife had robotic 3 level fusion in 2015..tough surgery.
You can break the loctite seal on the pivot /scale screws by using a fine tipped soldering iron . Lay the tip on the screw in question and heat up for 4-6 minutes (won't hurt the g10) and then use good Whia driver to break free...works everytime. Also you can center the blade by taking knife apart and cleaning up the scales where the nested liners lay. Sand any high spots or burrs and reassembly making sure liners are flush on both sides. Great collection! Love the para 3. I have the s90v cf, M390 bento box, rex45, and the m4 jade as you do. I just want the maxamet para 3 and I hopefully am done! Great video.

Hey outpost love your vids. I have the k390 from bento box and it’s amazing. I have the uncle Matt’s deep carry clip and it sits at the same height as the m390 and I’m liking it more than the actual deep carry clip from mxg. I guess I like alittle of the knife sticking out. I sold my para2 along time ago. It was a good knife but no matter what I couldn’t get the side to side play out of it. I could almost get it out but the action was so bad that I had to physically push down on the blade. But the para 3 I got which is my first the k390 has absolutely no play and the blade drops freely. Maybe I got lucky.
Oh and GB Antioxidant compound for the lock stick. Works for me.

And you are the only person I know that noticed the difference in the XHP g10... it is completely different from any other spyderco g10 I've handled.
My vote is M4 ... that micarta with a patina'd M4.. sick!
Oh man, I missed the boat on the Cruwear Para 3. Ended up getting the Native as a consolation prize and I love that knife. If you ever decide to let it go..... ;)
Very cool I like the orange scales but I'm out in the woods a lot and unfortunately I've lost a couple knives because they fell out of my pocket or off on my pack and couldn't see him in the grass or the dirt so now anytime I buy a knife I try to buy them bright colors but I can't afford a paramilitary 3 I would love to try one out even the pm-2 but unfortunately there really isn't any knife shops in the area that I live in that you can go in and physically touch and hold a knife like that
Cool collection. My Bento Box K390 Para3 came with horrendous lock stick. Other than that, its amazing,
No returns at Bento box? The knife that has the lock stick is there a small rectangle cut out where lock bar contacts the blade? Mine does and has crazy hard lock stick. Any of the black hardware screws seem do be fading unevenly or flaking?

Love this blade as well as the para 2 I have the para 3 in s35vn and and the DLT exclusive in cru wear along with a para 2 in s110v replaced all the clips with new titanium MXG clips. Love that M4 version 😍. I have a ton of great blades if u your ever looking to trade.
I thought the Cruwear was supposed to have light grey scales. But the smooth G-10 looks nice. Good upload!
The sprint run Cruwear was light gray and the Knife Center one is the smooth black G10.
The only grey scaled non exclusives I've ever seen have been maxamet
I'd do the XHP or the Cruwear. Two of my favorite steels.
I'm thinking the XHP since the orange are my least favorite scale color of them all. I may end up moving them between knives too.

Every Para 3 and PM2 I got had that lock stick..I put oil on the blade tang and lock and work it in and it disappears.
I've been lucky, none of my PM2'S have ever had lock stick. The XHP and 4V St. Nick's are the only ones I've had to deal with lock stick on. Barely noticeable on the 4V, very bad on the XHP. That one I'll have to take down and polish up the surface to get rid of it. Nothing has worked so far.

I'm so late but agreed about m390. That and 20cv are considered to have great edge retention but they don't come close to s90v at the same slightly brittle toughness. S90v is more than a marginal upgrade. Still, I favor toughness a bit more than some so my favorites are cruwear and magnacut.
I think those scales would look great on the M4 blade if you ever decide to let it develop a patina. Otherwise,, my vote is for the satin blade. Thanks for the video!
You're welcome, I may eventually let the M4 develop some character but for now I want to keep it nice.
Pug approved Spyderco's! Looks best with black blade and hardware I think! But the black blade looks so good with that dark red thou!
I dont have a Para 3 I dont even have a Pare 1 or 2
If you get a chance to try any I think you'll like them.

@@Mrtojo the Paramilitary is not a bad knife but it's rather bulky and odd looking imo. The Paramilitary 2 is the beat fit for me, fixed some of the issues I didnt like about the original. The Para 3 is a separate knife altogether, its just a smaller version of the PM2. I'll see if I can do a quick video comparison if the Para 3 and PM2 this afternoon.

I would hang on to that M4 para, back surgery is a bitch I have also had surgery on my lower lumbar three levels,takes a long time to feel normal agin!!!! stay well brother.

did you see the z-wear shaman with micarta that is coming soon? What do you think of z-wear and where it sits with other steels
Z Wear is equivalent to Cruwear. If its run soft like the Shaman Cruwear was it will be disappointing. If its run at 62+ it will be a great user.

If the centering is bad what all does that effect?
It doesn't have any effect on use, it will just be visibly off when closed.

I let it work out on its own. Some don't take long but I've had onw that took well over 6 months of use to go away. The more you open and close it the better it will get.
I wanted to buy the bento box M390 for a work knife and put blue micarta from my guy but the price shot up to almost 300 after micarta scales. At that point another 100 dollars I could work carry a hinderer lol. “Knife problem are wallet problems” -Me

Spyderco does a good job with most steels. As far as what's better that's a question for your personal use, need and preferences.
Love spyderco but getting little worried from what seeing lately with quality control issues. And it’s simple issues.. and they keep raising their prices.. more money and less quality control . Hmmm..
Now why do I say this. I’ve got 23 spyderco total rt now, not near what would like to but decent little collection. Out of those 23 spyderco my first 20 I only had maybe 3 issues total with. Had a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 with Terrible lock stick on the compression lock. My Sage 5 and Domino were not centered. So 3 out of 20 with little issues. Not bad track history. Well my latest 21, 22, and 23rd Spyderco have all come with issues. In past 2 months I got the Para 3, Kapara, and the Spydiechef. All in that order. Well the Spydiechief, Kapara, and Para 3 all have centering issues. 2 lean far rt., other is def noticeable but not almost touching handles like other 2 are And the Para 3 also has that terrible lock stick with the compression lock my 1 Paramilitary 2 had years and years ago. I am aware and fine with the stick on the Spydiechef with it being a titanium lock bar on a steel blade so not saying that really is a issue. So my last 3 Spyderco all have simple quality control issues that at this price and their reputation they shouldn’t be there.
Nowadays I’m getting knives well under $100 from China with titanium or carbon fiber handles with most times with d2 steel but also vg10, or s35 etc. sometimes other blade steel for little more money, but the point is they are coming out perfect. They are all centered, quality in milling is good if not great, and kicker is some of this milling on these handles blow me away. So No lock stick. And all are smooth to open and close.
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to bash my favorite knife brand, but having issues with my last 3 spyderco and then seeing all these TH-cam videos with people having tiny issues with theirs really has me worried. Hate to see or hear Spyderco get that Benchmade label that Benchmade had years bk. Like issues with their quality control and their prices. Think Spyderco needs to buckle down little more on the companies making their knives overseas and get on the butts of the people in a golden Colorado. Eric I know your dad Sal may not be running things like before but I know you got the passion and love of these knives just like most us do(least how it seems on videos of him). It hurts me personally to see the prices go up like they have past few years just because of the name but to have these Q.C. Issues is a def no go. Obviously I’m still buying Spyderco and my favorite brand but they really need to get bk to way of the old with their work.

I have almost universal Spyderco blade centering issues with all of their FRN scales. They use FRN so much now that it can't help but create a tolerance for off centered blades, when so much of your production is choosing raw material cost savings over tight tolerance blade centering. It seems to me to be a conscious decision.
im deciding between Cruwear and m390. Im guessing you like the cruwear more?
Application would play a part. M390 done well is a fine steel and there are times I'd use that over Cruwear
If its not your favorite knife, WHY purchase 5 examples of it?
Lock stick is fixed by a couple strokes on an extra fine stone. I won't even attempt to explain why you have 2 out of 5 with centering problems. I have 4 or 5 PM2's and 2 PM3's and have no centering issues.
Look at the difference in the two clips. The reason the one is easier to get out of the pocket is because its longer; essentially its giving you a longer lever to move against the tension of the "spring".
I'd have to say the St. Nick's with black blade/hardware... so, is the Pug's name Cruwear lol?

I did sell the M4 and M390. I've added Rex 45 and Maxamet since then. My favorite right now would be the 4V and the Maxamet is wearing the denim micarta. I may update these soon.

Which exact M390 and M4? Do a couple production M390 do well, yes. Most production M4 does well. Custom heat treat is on a case by case basis. This M390 Para 3 was one of the harder ones tested at 60.1 rc. Compare that to the same Para 3 in M4 at 63 rc and unless you need the stainless Factor that M390 is going to fail in every other category before the M4 does.
Outside of some Spyderco, Shirogorov and Reate M390 it just doesn't live up to the hype surrounding it. It could be a great steel if companies took the time to heat treat it better.
Why don't you just test them? Are you testing just shitty m390?
