Early 2021 Home Office Update - Cable Management, Lighting and More

- Creating a "perfect" space takes time. After 3 months of being in the space, I gave my home office a much needed update. Most of the things mentioned in this video are what I think most people overlook. When deciding a space, we often focus on the desk, chair or other key pieces and we forget to add the pieces that can truly make a difference.
Also, most of us are not doing just 1 thing anymore. We are multi-passioned professionals. I wanted to create a space that can aid me in exploring other interests that I have.
If you're designing your space, I urge you to take it 1 item at a time. Test your space first. Work in it for a couple of weeks or months before you start adding/ordering pieces. This way, you can avoid buying unnecessary stuff.

Great video. Best tip I’ve heard in a long time - Don’t rush in and buy everything at once. Take time and see what you actually need and what will benefit you most. With many people making vast changes to their workspace during lockdown I think this is a very important tip!
Thanks man! It is very difficult especially when you watch videos on TH-cam and you see a space you really like. It's tempting to get the same stuff but it doesn't always translate 100% into your own space because it's going to be different. (Ceiling heights, windows, doors, etc.)

I appreciate this video especially being I can't stand RGB and love the warm amber light woodsy look and this is very useful to get ideas from. The lofter light bar helped a lot being you are the only person showing it without 20 rgb lights already on at the same time.

Great space! I'm not an architect but have similar needs as I'm design. You're dead on about building the space gradually. It seems like the pieces you need work themselves out as one continues to work and live in the space.

Very true about the time and money to get the home office the way you want. I'm about $11K in, and all I have to do now is paint. Dragging my feet with that one... lol. Thanks for uploading and sharing gems!

Your design looks really sleek. You should take a look at the Brydge vertical dock for your MacBook, especially if you take your laptop away from the desk from time to time.
It is a good one! Sometimes I like taking my MBP out of the stand and having another set of screen so that wouldn’t be an option with the Brydge dock. But thank you!

Hey man! It hasn’t always been that way. It’s really just trial and error until I found the look I wanted (just recently figured it out tbh). I have a big light diffuser to help create that soft light. Also shoot as flat as you’re comfortable with.

One thing I have learned in my process of creating my setup is that cable management is EXPENSIVE!!
Really? the stuff I used didn't cost me that much.
@@JonImperial I guess it's relative then. I've spent nearly a 100 dollars on cable management products, and I'm not even half done with my room/set up makeover. My room makeover budget is 3k USD (includes all new furniture as well) and the cable management costs did sting.
@@burhanjohncena I believe you. You can easily spend money. I got 2 things for cable management and it was $50 total I think. 🤷🏽♂️

Yup! That’s exactly what I did!

There are definitely some barriers to getting some items up here. (shipping, pricing and options) With Amazon, it's not too bad but for other online stores, shipping fees can be too much!

It’s actually the opposite. I shot this video before I replaced it with the BenQ. This one broke couple weeks after this video. 😂

i was looking at just that printer roller cart. how good is it and how easy was it to build? i was frighted by the reviews saying it was a bad built in simpler turms.
I think it’s fine. The printer I had on it was pretty heavy and it was good. It was better than I expected.
One tip, fix the volume dial of your speakers in your table with 3m tape.
That’s true! I am still not set on my wiring but I will lock it in place when I settle on it. The wire to the subwoofer is so short and it’s pulling it when I go on standing mode. But thanks! ☺️

It’s called Sketchup. I’m using the pro version. There’s a free web version though.

Doesn’t the led strip attached to the back of the desk interfere with the monitor mount clamps? Like how did you run the strips over the clamp?
Initially, I mounted over the strip, but I fixed it and mounted on the desk and just made sure my mounts are not pressing on the LED strip

@@johnflounder9778 preference. The thing is if you make changes to the clamp or whatnot, then it's a hassle.
Any issues with the led strip and the mic mount? Does the clamp cover the leds?
Good question! The spacing of the led lights are wide enough for the mic mount. When you install the LED strip you have to be intentional. I have a long LED strip so I ran it twice behind the desk and I aligned the lights so I can have the mic mount sit perfectly in that gap. Message me on IG and I'll send you a pic if you want.

Just the regular kind. Scotch or Gorilla. Pay attention to the weight capacity too.
