    Hey Guys, back with another Fallout 4 Theory Video and today I figured I'd go ahead and talk about Vault-tec with you guys. I'm pretty
    curious as to whether Vault-tec is still around during the events of all of the Fallout games and whether they still monitor any of the vaults. In this video, I will attempt to answer those questions.

    I think your biggest mistake with this is assuming that "failed" vaults are not worth studying or collecting data from. Failures are just as important to record as successes.

    • @tylerjaynes822

      Yes AND no.
      Vault 22 was a gambling vault. They voted, made rules/regulations, etc through gambling, and they survived 200 years, so in that regard YES, they succeeded, however, House bet them their vault over a game of poker, and if he won, it was his and he got to flood it, if he lost, he fucked off.
      He won.
      So, the gambling vault that was a success, gambled away their home, resulting in failure

Maybe there was a vault that was designed to make cyborgs and they have an army of cyborg people and you can destroy the control unit controlling the cyborgs and they turn on the vault tech personnel

    I go with the idea that Vault-Tec is on an Orbiting Space Station and here's why: Pip-Boys designed for the Vaults have two things in game lore that would not exist if not through satellite: gps tracking and up-to-date topographical mapping. Second would be that "all-clear" signal that would have came from Vault-Tec to the various vaults scattered across the country. How else would they be able to give that "all clear" unless they themselves could observe the outside without the effects of the toxic surroundings? And say that they in fact signaled a vault to open back up, wouldn't it be like Vault-Tec to observe them like ants in a ant-farm or Bacteria in a Petri dish? Lastly is what was featured in the Nuka-World DLC which was Vault-Tec in space which is feasible that they could survive in space seeing how proof of concept has been shown by the Vaults alone and Vault-Tec showing interest albeit through a theme park attraction.
    Summarizing, Vault-Tec is in space, whether the Zetas (aliens) killed/captured them is another story

      Late but it would explain why many of the vaults were meant to keep radiation leaking through water to see mutations giving birth to the first ghouls and explain the hatred for the mutation as well as why they were aware of the causal issue and change in behaviors which are seen as savage by highly intellectual people, especially John Henry Eden which as an AI would see it as only detrimental without considering people like Nick Since AI lack the complexity of humans to understand change and intelligence in a way where all is either true or naught answer.

      I can't remember where I read it but the Enclave funded the Vault-Tec corporation and it was used as a massive umbrella operation for all the experiments, stockpiling and securing future genetically pure humans for recruitment later. I am guessing the Enclave still has a strong presence North of Chicago and in Canada but my personal theory is in the Mothership Zeta DLC, the motherhood fired at a location in Canada which was probably a Enclave position as they considered them the biggest threat to their invasion.

  • @cobanshaw3072
    @cobanshaw3072 7 ปีที่แล้ว +208

    I was reading the information in one of the vaults and I had a thought, which I am sure others must have thought of before.
    I think the vaults were never meant to function as actual vaults. I think they were designed to be exactly what they were; social experiments. They were going to build them, then announce there was an eminent nuclear attack, and the residents would all head to the vault. After they were locked in, they would assume that the world was obliterated, when in fact, personnel at the different headquarters would monitor the results.
    If this is the case, there wouldn't be any actual vault 0, or even a vault where they were hiding. I think the whole thing was simply a government experiment. There just happened to be a nuclear war before it was implemented, and the protocols went into effect.

      Originally, Vault 118 was supposed to have a combination of the societal elite and the regular populace, but the Vault wasn't finished before the bombs fell. My thinking was the original experiment never really occured and instead the societal elite class ended up conspiring against the Overseer.
      But in a sense, I think you could say that the Vault does still have its original inhabitants, unlike Vault 106 or Vault 3.

      Well, I think for Vault 118 we can say that the original experiment never took place, but instead Vault-Tec approved a new experiment after the Overseer informed them about the willingness of the social elites to become Robobrains. It would appear the Overseer still had communication with Vault-Tec early on.
      This eventually lead to the suicide of the Overseer. Or perhaps even murder by one of the inhabitants.

It could be a game taking place not to long after the great war to make it more pheasble for it to still be operationel, since let's face it a vault city that is still operated by vault tech would be much cooler than it being abandoned. You could also get way more lore by talking to people and having more intact terminals.

    Also, in terms of them watching the vaults, There's a good chance Vault-Tec has/had a ZAX supercomputer silently observing the vaults collecting data.
    There is also the chance that any remaining Vault-Tec scientists joined the Enclave's science division, which would allow them to track down vaults quicker.

      Unless something is also mentioned in another fallout game you should see most of the details from that game as non-confirmed/non-canon.

    I have another theory:
    We know at least two groups with teleportation technology; The Institute and The Big MT (Fallout New Vegas), so it stands to reason that others have it as well. What if Vault-Tec management had a successful habitat somewhere where it did monitor if not the vaults, the activation (or by condition) of the character's pip-boy? Add the possibility of they also having teleportation and suddenly the sudden appearance/disappearance of a Vault-Tec representative starts to make sense. They're curious about the sudden new signal.
    Just mulling here...

      you forget about what happens after 'trouble on the homefront' guys. Amata gets captured by the enclave who ask her about the location of vault 101. She *gives it to them* and unless they are then killed, they kill her and presumably go to 101 to... well do the same thing as to vault 13 presumably. So no, by the time fallout 4 happens 101 is not functional and is most definitely abandoned due to the enclave massacring/kidnapping everyone within.

    The C.I.T. Vault (I.E. the Institute) is clearly the monitor station for Vault Tec. C.I.T. didn't just fall on top of them and they made a utopia underneath it; they must have had a G.E.C.K. and at least a standard vault by which to expand safely. All they had to do is ignore their mission as Enclave/Vault Tec scientists and pursue their own goals for two hundred years.
    It explains why:
    They can remotely monitor and influence Vault systems.
    They have a paint job for the X-01 Power Armor, which is ostensibly an Enclave design.
    Why the Enclave would just "give up" on space colonization. (Lost their main research station.)
    They can conduct amoral experiments with little to no social backlash among their own populace. ("Ethically" vetted vault members produce children in a culture of ethical ambiguity in regards to science, creates a culture.)
    The Institute is just like the vault tech salesman in the beginning. He is barely recognizable as what he used to be, but "I AM vault tec!" in spirit and ethos he is as he was.

      *_If you do the quest to destroy the Institute, it looks nothing like a standard Vault-Tec vault. You can even read on the wiki that it was created by C.I.T. personnel (not Enclave/Vault-Tec members) by using the underground section of the building._*
      *_After they had produced a decent amount of Gen-1/Gen-2 Synths and the Molecular Relay, they sealed themselves off from the surface world and tunneled down, building new layers to the Institute._*
      *_Only places I could ever see holding a mass amount of Vault-Tec members was the Oil Rig (destroyed), or Vault 0 (Potentially destroyed, depending on what path you take)._*
      Also going to disprove your points:
      "They can remotely monitor and influence Vault systems" - *_They can also build Synths, doesn't surprise me that they can monitor vaults too. Even the Brotherhood has locations/information on Vaults. As for influencing vault systems, if you're using Vault 111 as proof, Kellog brought with him two Institute scientists. According to Kellog's memories, they intentionally left life support off for all of the cryo pods except for yours, effectively killing off the other residents. As for getting released, they could've bugged the terminal so they could remote control it from a distance without being caught._*
      "They have a paint job for the X-01 Power Armor, which is ostensibly an Enclave design" - *_All the factions have different paint jobs for different power armor. Minutemen have T-45, The Railroad has T-51, BoS have T-60, and The Institute has X-01. I think it might be in order of when they appear (Example: You meet the Minutemen first, and the first power armor suit in the game is T-45. Similarly, the Institute is the last faction you meet, and the last power armor suit in the game is X-01)._*
      "Why the Enclave would just "give up" on space colonization. (Lost their main research station.)" - *_Their main research stations were actually the Oil Rig on the West Coast (destroyed), and Raven Rock on the East (also destroyed). They had a mobile base crawler too, but that was also destroyed._*
      "They can conduct amoral experiments with little to no social backlash among their own populace. ("Ethically" vetted vault members produce children in a culture of ethical ambiguity in regards to science, creates a culture.)" -
      *_They conduct those amoral experiments because the Commonwealth wouldn't accept their help so the Institute effectively turned on them, and due to having no connection to the outside world, later generations would be raised up to think that the surface is evil, and not to come to the surface unless they absolutely have to._*

      ZetaByt The X0-1 PA paint scheme can actually be explained really easily, since the CIT, probably one of the leading Institutes of technology in the FO world, would of had close ties to the government, giving them a chance to access the latest prototypes in military technology (for example the X0-1 PA)

    • @nicolaysalazar1939
      @nicolaysalazar1939 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Anonymous The X0-1 PA is only related to the Enclave because they are the descendants of the US government and would of had the latest prototypes within PA technology (just like the CIT, a renowned Institute with close ties to the pre-war shadow government, the Enclave)

    The Pipboy is indeed the most intriguing device & honestly, I never gave it much thought until you brought it up for discussion here. It's highly unlikely that the Pipboy would gather it's data from incremental sonar scans simply due to the vast size of the map & the fact that the Pipboy is capable of rendering that map in realtime. Sonar based telemetry won't offer that level of precision & it would require the Pipboy to be performing a scan every second or so. If it is using GPS navigation, then it's evident of the presence of an active satellite network which wouldn't be surprising since the Enclave were shown to be in possession of an orbital weapons platform in Fallout 3 & there is a fair chance that Earth's satellite network was unaffected by the Great War. We know the Enclave had some form of orbital control, but the extent of their influence is still unknown as far as I'm concerned.
    If the Pipboy does indeed employ GPS technology & if the Enclave are indeed tied to Vault-Tec in some way, then it would explain how they are always able to find you in Fallout 3. During the Project Purity questline, it isn't very unusual to have vertibirds landing near you like every few minutes.

      Basically the first overseer of vault 81 rigged the phones so that only 3 scientists get into the secret vault. Then she trapped them there and closed off communication with them before they start experimenting with the residents. Smartest overseer ever

      Supermutants are a non-intelligent species. Unless you want to pay them for making another ENTIRE MAIN STORYLINE, don't expect anything.

  • @UnevenRanger
    @UnevenRanger 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Forgive me if I am wrong, but I thought that Bethesda hinted at the fact that the all-clear signal was false from the beginning; just a tale Vault-tec and the overseers told the inhabitants to keep them hopeful.
    From the overseers terminal when you first leave the vault, when hes talking about the fact that the 200 day mark (when they were due the all-clear signal) was reached and that he wasnt opening the vault because he knew it was still so radioactive outside it'd be suicide, and his wording sounded like the inhabitants, and even the security personnel werent aware of this.
    That gave me the impression that Vault-tec never intended to deliver all-clear signals

    • @S3Cs4uN8
      @S3Cs4uN8 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In my opinion that may have been less because of sheer malice on Vault-Tec's part and more on just how much pre-war america underestimated how destructive a nuclear war would be. The signal may never have reach the vaults because the place it was to be sent from was destroyed or the massive amounts of radiation and EMP bursts rendered the network non-functional.

    • @aarondev3218
      @aarondev3218 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember reading that terminal too. There was never an all clear either because it was a false hope ooor vault tec ppl died and could never give it lol and for practical purposes it was safer in the vault anyway. Honestly if it was me in the fallout world I’d probably wanna stay in the vault

    • @Alan-wj5zc
      @Alan-wj5zc 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was never meant to be an all clear signal because some vaults were destined to open earlier and others to never open at all. Most vaults were open forcibly when they were low on supplies or were raided.

    I've made a few personal changes to the cannon in my head that help with the weirdness of how the pip boy is distributed. If anyone wants to expand on this leave a comment. Basically there are 6 or 7 variations on the pip boy which existed before the war, these variations exist as 3 distinct generations, the 1000 series, the 2000 series, and the 3000 series.
    The 1000 series as seen in the opening of fallout 4, this generation is simple and missing many key steaple features of the pip boy. The 1000 series is likely out if use by the time of the war.
    The 2000 series as seen in the early fallout games is the first generation which could be said to be "feature complete" and was very common up until a few years before the war when it began to be phased out for the next generation.
    The next generation of pip boys is the 3000 series, the most modern of the pip boys. The 3000 series was distributed to most vaults before the war as a replacement for the aging 2000 series, when the bombs fell only a few low priority vaults on the west coast had yet to receive the upgraded model.
    The pip boy 3000S a unique variant of the pip boy used in and around the Massachusetts commonwealth to test several new features along with new improvements to the vaults. The 3000S was designed to be faster and more user friendly with a new easy-to-use layout with the buttons on the easier to reach right side. This platform was likely intended to test several feature which would be widely implemented in the 4000 series which was never developed because of the war.
    I would speculation that vault tec planed to release the 4000 series to the wider public in the way the modern smartphone was made widely available (remember who had smartphone before 2007) but this is more speculation on my part. The 3000S pip boy has alot of features which make it easier to use then previous pip boys. The sole survivor is able to pick it up and use it with presumably minimal interaction with computers previously. The lack of a biometric lock also lends to my theory, as do the technical specs being the same as the Commodore 64, a computer which was one of the first mainstream home computers to be widely used by the public instead of a large company.
    Please let me know what you think.

Would they continue their work? Shut down? Leave everything on automatic, then exit the vault en masse? Set up a base at vault, then send out scouts?

      Vault 21's experiment was settling differences by games of chance (gambling). There's actually a pretty interesting story involving Mr. House on the wiki:
      Sometime between 2271 and 2281, Robert House planned an occupation of Vault 21. Resisting attempts to be assimilated into his empire, the inhabitants agreed on gambling to settle the issue. The game they played to settle the deal was blackjack and almost the entire vault was in attendance. In a risky bet, the supporters of House won against the opposition, and Vault 21's interior was stripped of its useful electronics and equipment and partially filled in with concrete, forcing the dwellers to resettle in the wasteland and on the Strip. At Sarah Weintraub's and Michael Angelo's (a.k.a. Sheldon Weintraub) insistence, House left the topmost level intact and allowed the Weintraubs to establish a hotel there, which became another source of income for his fledgling empire.
