Thanks for a lovely, different day!!😃. Jo, when I was breastfeeding and feeds seemed very frequent, my lovely old midwife advised a Mackeson/ or Guinness, anyway stout, for my afternoon refreshment. When I started doing that, milk quality improved and baby, and I slept better 👍😃💐. Joan. But don’t be doing tooooo many really long walks, William needs your energy !!!! 😉. Joan

I have followed your site for a long time and have enjoyed your journey. When your son William was born it took me back to when my own son was born and the joy of being present at the birth and when your child gives you the "golden rain" before the cord is cut, just after the birth.
Your videos give me a joy to watch your journey after the loss of my youngest son.

At first I thought you had added in some special effects for ghost sounds, but then it was William's funny little baby noises! 😂 Thanks for sharing all this with us.

Thanks for your introduction to Blackburn. My ancestors lived in Cheshire and Lancashire (I'm American) and I'm always delighted to learn more about that region. This is my first to time to view your TH-cam vlog but I shall be watching more, as I'm an enthusiastic armchair narrowboater! You are a lovely young family and I wish for you continued success, health, and happiness.

Love your day out to Darwen Tower, and you positiveness about a a day out to a viewpoint where you couldn't see the view, a tower where you couldn't see the tower, and a drinking house where you couldn't get a drink!
Is really good to see you getting out and about, and the gorgeous little William isn't keeping you under house arrest!

  • @eekee6034

Me at about 1:45: "Ah, fit people!" ;) And I'm not taking that back despite your complaints, Vic & Jo! XD I'm getting better, more than I expected to, but I'll be surprised if my energy problem has actually fixed itself.
Ooh, fog! I can't say I'm a fog-watcher (haha!), but it reminds me of this one time I went up Cissbury Ring and just couldn't see anything but a few nearby trees. I sat on the grass (kept surprisingly neat by sheep), and felt like I was in a perfectly white hemisphere with just a circle of grass maybe 30 or 40 yards in radius. In one direction, there was just one complete and rather pretty tree. There were several more trees on the other side, but they weren't so pretty.
And the tower's covered up? Haha! The adventures of rambling at near-random!... which reminds me I've had more fun roaming woodlands than the tops of hills. You'd really have to be careful baby's face doesn't get scratched if you go off the paths in woodland, but there are some very pretty paths and some woods aren't so dense.
That shepherd's hut and even the hall look adorable! ^.^'
William's snoring *did* have me worried for a second! XD But then I realised what it was.
I'm glad I'm not the only one creeped out by those working-museum-type figures. XD

As a girl I was brought up in Lancashire, officially born in Detroit, Michigan. My closest friend was from Blackburn. We went to school together. Her mom was from Blackburn and her father from Scotland. At present I live with horses, a billy goat and a Rottweiler cattle dog. I'm now retired and spend my free time reading books and watching Scotland history and Narrow boats on the canals. The Blackburn accent is so familiar it's like a beat of a distant drum. I just 💘 it. Thank you for sharing. A ghost from the past was always present. Spooky and very Anglo. Oliver Cromwell and his modern army always crept in. 💘 from Arizona.

Hi, im slowly watching all of your vlogs from the beginning. Love you two, and now of course baby William. Had to comment on this one as I'm Blackburn born and bred, and still live there. Loved the footage of Samlesbury Hall as we go there quite often and my parents had their wedding reception there too, 64 years ago. The food there is fab. Also loved your footage of "Darren Tower" ...shame about the fog. Keep doing what you do as its lovely watching you, and hearing an accent like my own x

I laughed out loud when the outing to a hill you couldn't see the monument on top of, or the view from, finally showed you up as overdressed. Great vlogging. I first cruised the L&L through Blackburn on a family holiday in 1966 and I hope the populace has since acquired rubbish bins. Back then our prop discovered many of the things the natives had chucked in the canal. And I hurt my hand when the windlass slipped off a badly aligned and maintained steel lock gate mechanism. However, these ancient woes pale into insignificance against Blackburrn's achievement in producing Joanna.

I really enjoyed the tour of Jo's hometown of Blackburn. The Shepherds Hut also looked so very cozy, it reminded me of my stay inside a Caboose in Pinetop Arizona. I have to say Jo and Vic, your videos are just so very well edited, photographed, humorous (especially when you throw little snippets in like the Postman Pat scene), and of course your background music choices are so lively. I wish you three all the very best and looking forward to what the future holds for your growing family.

I always knew you sounded familiar Joanna. I was born in Standish, my husband in Bury. We both moved to Accrington where our paths crossed. We lived in a cottage in Oswaldtwistle after we got married, but are now in North Carolina. During the 80's Blackburn was a great place to shop, but times have changed for all small towns. Beautiful baby making his presence heard already 😊❤️

    Hi guys, great episode.
Just keep an eye on William's breathing when you go in old buildings or anywhere with possible damp, mustiness if it changes to him making those kind of noises. I have been an asthmatic all my life & the breathing sounds that he was making sounded just like me if I go into any of these places, they set me off. Please don't be alarmed, his noise I believe stopped after a while once you got back outside but I think it would be good to keep an awareness of his environment if this breathing restriction happens again. I really don't mean to cause you any worries I'm sure he is fine but as a 56yr old nanna I couldn't just not care & ask you to keep a listening ear.
Thank you for bringing us along on your journey through life. I feel like you're my family too.
Regards from ex uk gal now living in New Zealand

It's all so beautiful, even the dereliction, on a narrow boat there with a fire going selling coffees would bring just the right touch of class it needs for Xmas Such a good video. Poor Jo when that pub was closed I thought she was going to cry, EVERYTHINGS IS GOING WRONG!! Those lights going off at the right time...damn!! I have never seen anybody so refreshed after one night's sleep, it must have been like the boat. So cool.

I grew up in Blackburn and we had a beautiful view of Darwen Tower from our brand new house in Higher Croft. We left when I was 15 in 1962 and it was great to revisit, although I noticed a distinct lack of massive slag heaps in the landscape.
BTW I've come to the conclusion that nobody visits Blackburn. I live in a fairly touristy part of subtropical Oz and whilst I've met plenty of people from there (and from Accrington, who knew I would recognise the different accent after all this time, although I immediately recognised yours) I've never met anyone who has visited Blackburn, it's just not a destination.
    Thanks for the trip.

As a Yorkshire man who spent twenty years doing missionary work in Lancashire, I thought I recognized that accent. The one thing you can say about Blackburn... it's not Accrington.

Not sure how long Accrington can safely say it's not like Blackburn. It's definitely catching up on the dump scale.
Fortunately I reside 3 miles away from Accy, hopefully in my lifetime the sprawling masses won't engulf our now pretty village.

What a sweet little adventure. Ah the young one. Mine are now out of college and working. They were sitting at the table for thanksgiving dinner, last night. Talking of going back to LA and Seattle. Motion always kept ours quiet. It goes by so quickly, it truly is about the journey. Then letting go.

We’ve just got back from Yorkshire and a lot of places seem to close on Tuesday. What a beautiful old house you showed us over Jo. Fancy you working in there. Must have been spooky at times. Wonderfully functional Shepherds Huts too. They looked very cosy. See you all again soon.

I was hoping to see your Mum and Dad again Jo, first met them at your family holiday going for scenic walks across the hills, then your Dad helping with flooring and stuff on Holly, then at your wedding, oh, wait, thats right we weren't invited. Then with the posting of Holly carry bags, which you'd run out of?. It would be nice to see if they remember me, haha. A little wander up a misty mound. Vic enjoyed his big mac, fries and coffee from McD's. William seemed to enjoy the haunted hall, made me a bit nervous with his uncannyly scary sound affects. Jo, you're looking amazing, you too Vic, but a different amazing. Williams still the star. Hope the trip goes brilliantly. Thanks, and take care.

My wife and I started watching your vlogs a few months ago, working our way through them. Good to see you in my hometown Blackburn, though I now live in Lechlade-on-Thames, Gloucestershire. I seem to remember that Jo mentioned that she worked in a chippy wayback when. Was it the Hollytree by any chance?

Excellent news. Hopefully more follow. Very overcrowded on the canal. A decent cold winter should do it

That was rather an abrupt end. I was left wondering where Vic was off to and whether there were live musicians. Oh well, I’ll never know.😌

Great vlog guys in my hometown of the North west. Jo what's your thoughts on the iconic KFC closing opposite to the Salmesbury hall? Used to visit as a kid on the way back from a coast visit.
The canal a few miles up from where you was Vic (between Rishton & Accrington) is now closed for a long time I've heard on the local news. The culvert has washed out & the canal siding & tow path broke away, emptying a large part of the canal.

Seems like a cool, gritty, old town. I'm not digging the runny egg breakfast (or any runny foods) though.
