I composed this to capture the fear of missing out

- This is a little song i wrote to describe the feeling of being surrounded by people living in the moment and enjoying themselves, while you're stuck in a self imposed mental cage, quietly suffering, yearning to feel the same, but being unable to.
Composed in Ableton Live 10
Wanted to strip down the production with this one and focus mainly on the subject matter/conveying the correct emotions. I hope I got across what I wanted to.
Edit: Minecraft/C418 tribute song is out, you can either find it trough my channel or this link: th-cam.com/video/XkMvTmJbZFs/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=ImMASI
This isn't the fear of missing out it's the fear of feeling unimportant, of not getting that sweet social validation that you're mindlessly seeking. This is the feeling of trying very hard to impress others and the terrifying prospect of experiencing rejection. This is the lack of a feeling of self-worth, an ignorance of the way to find value in yourself directly without the middle-man that are others. It is the desperation of not finding yourself in the external world. The helplessness in the perceived need to bend other people's will to yours to cure your inadequacy.
There is nothing missed out in the emotion this song conveys
Thank you, it's great you were able to find even more meaning in it then i intended to convey.
Absolutely Beautiful the high notes remind me of the high points of life when you experience that moment and you mix it with low notes cause sometimes the lows shadow the highs
Literally explained narcissism in an all-too-long paragraph 🤨
:( and that’s a compliment.
haha
This could easily be music for a cinematographic scene of a character getting emotionally destroyed
this really captures the feeling of recognising that missing out isn't a big deal, or a tragedy, but you can't help but be bothered by it, and that in itself also bothers you. it has the energy of it being silly to yourself, but still upsetting, and it genuinely invoking a strong sadness in you. plus! i also feel it includes the vibe that there being people you like enough that you'd fear missing out on having fun with them is in a way a positive concept. y'know?
Well said, thank you!
I was expecting a minor chord at the end, nice surprise ✨️
I’m happy you like It. Felt fitting to end It off on hopeful note, since the recognition of such feelings as the fear of missing out and not living in the moment are a motivator for future improvement and change of ones behaviour to alleviate them. It’s akin to a “It will get better” in musical terms.
The closing scene of a silent film, our protagonist steps into a canal barge as the fog rolls in upon a November morning.
It is the dawn of a new day, and as they depart the night they venture out of the life they had always known.
Such loss and longing, but a final bright upturn as they disappear from view. Perhaps the new world shall be better.
Absolutely marvelous... Captures the emotion perfectly
Thanks, means a lot!
Fits the thought very well. And I like the piano you are using or the effects you put on it. It sounds quite unstable and wobbly which is perfect for this piece! :)
Thank you very much! It's the "Lofi Piano" preset from the Scratchpad plugin, it's free if you're looking for something like this.
@@immasi8922 Thank you for that info! Gonna have a look. :)
@@immasi8922 Are those pedal noises I hear at the end? 👀
you managed to capture all stages of grief
0:04 denial
0:47 anger
1:10 bargaining
1:33 depression
2:00 acceptance
not sure if this was intentional but wow it lines up perfectly. either way it's beautiful good job
Thank you! Not exactly intentional, yet they are all a part of the emotion i felt, which inspired me to make this, so maybe a subconcious choice hehe ? :D The ending being "Acceptance" was intentional though, Ive already argued about it with some people in the comments, who did not understanding why i ended it with a major chord :)
Bb Minor. what a marvelous key, perfect for this kind of feeling. very nice job!
Thank you very much!
hell yes
I’m obsessed with Succession’s soundtrack I think my algorithm is seeing the similarities between that and your piece.. this is really great! Keep it up!
Thanks, haven't actually seen succession yet, but I'm planning to in the future.
this is so beautiful. Wow. I would definitely buy an album in this style.
Thank you very much! Don't know if a whole album in this style is coming, but it's possible haha
with a few additions, this could be an insane Little Nightmares track
Lovely. I can imagine it in a French art film.
Thank you!
i have a fear of missing out on bangers like these
I love how the bpm changes in the middle of song
Thank you! I am in no way trained in understanding when to slow down or speed up, but i just felt it and added it.
sounds beautiful
Cheers!
POV you’re about to be killed by the min villain while everyone around you notices nothing
beautiful
Thanks!
1:00 You had your chance-
1:06 You're running out of time-
1:10 -and you missed it
I liked that, thanks for sharing
Thanks man, I enjoyed making it, happy that people are enjoying it!
Sounds like Mice on Venus. I love the longing this song brings.
Thanks man! Massive compliment, the original minecraft soundtrack is a masterpiece.
I’m working on another song in this style, inspired by the Minecraft soundtrack, it’ll be out soon.
Great work, this is now my brain's ringtone for whenever moments like this happen,.
Thank you for the kind comment!

Thank you, means a lot!
you conveyed this perfectly dude. This is such a great composition.
Thank you! :) ive had a hard time finding time to work on music due to real life stuff, hopefully ill have the time to make and release something worth posting soon
Really incredible, i would cry if i have emotions, well made! ♥
Thank you! you dont hav emotions?? hah
I don't know what you're tapping here, but I definitely feel like I've heard this genre(?) before and I REALLY like it. Low-fi sounding, but also quite flowy and classical sounding. One of the other commenters was right on the money when they said artsy French movie or something like that. I'd love to hear more, or if someone can point me to some stuff that sounds like this??
Thank you. I think there is some creators making things similar to this, though I can't pin point any, I just know that I've see them around haha
Release a track! This is great! Also, any chance of seeing the sheet music??? Piano is perfectly mysterious and somber.
To be honest with you I haven't learnt sheet music yet haha. So for now I compose by ear, meaning that I can't transcribe this piece and provide you with the sheet music, though I am very happy that you enjoyed the song enough to ask! Sorry, would love to help.
@@immasi8922 I've got a tip! If you ever end up composing in FL Studio, you can export your piece into sheet music via musescore.
Je to nádherné.
Felt that 🥲
Good haha
love the little bittersweet ending lol
good job!
Thank you!
Every day is the same. The sky, once a vivid blue, becomes greyer and greyer with every turn of the moon. You stare outside of your window, wondering in vain if there was anything you could've done differently, anything you could've done to change the path you now walk. You know in your heart that there were innumerable things you could've done, but it's pointless to think about that now. You feel that pain in your chest again, that immense sorrow welling up from inside a pit in your stomach you always try so hard to ignore; it catches in your throat and you know its taste well- regret, a sharp and hollow flavor that you can never seem to live without.
"Is it not enough just to manage? Is it not enough just to survive?" You wonder aloud to no one. You never get an answer, because in your gut you feel that it truly isn't. You know that life is meant to be enjoyed and experienced, so why is it that everyone else is having such a good time and you're not?
The envy and jealousy you once felt and held onto for many years has since waned into something else, a different and completely overpowering emotion by comparison- yearning. A yearning for what could've been. A yearning for what others seem to obtain so easily. Those once sour and acrid emotions tainted your view on the world, leaving it colorless and blank. A world without purpose, in your dulled eyes. "Maybe I'm just not meant to be happy." You think, "Maybe this is fate." And so with a cold and heavy heart you continue to exist, only barely surviving, never truly living.
Wow! This is wonderful
Thank you!
Wow...Amazing!
Thank you!
this is one of the most beautiful things ive heard in too long. really. so moving
Thanks you, that makes me very happy!

We need the score, this sounds great!
Really beautiful, for some reason it reminds me of Arabic Music
That was a fucking masterpiece
That's absolutely gorgeous
I'm terrified and i can't sleep
Damn, tat's a very interesting peace! Though with a consideration of the theme being FOMO, a bit weird that it ended with a happy sounding major chord.
Thank you. It was a deliberate choice to go with a major chord. I believe that recognizing that you're feeling fomo isn't a purely negative thing, as it is the first step for future change and improvement of ones behaviour/perception. There's many causes for fomo, but it can often be a symptom of ones inability to let go and climb over the comfortable protective wall they've built around themselves, the last chord signified a small peak over that wall, into an plain of existence not shackled by these self imposed chains.
@@immasi8922 oh wow that is such a good perspective on this topic, now makes a lot of sense and is absolutely true. My thought process was very shallow in the original comment.
phonk test
I have all my projects grouped in that folder, never changed It haha

Hello! Thank you for the kind words. I have yet to learn to read music, so I compose mostly by ear with the use of a DAW, meaning I can't really provide you with sheet music, even though id love to. Sorry! :/
Who are you and why did I just cry so much?
I am just someone who loves music, glad it made you feel something. Have a nice night!
stop getting so emotional

Wait you can capture the-fear-of-missing-out?! What kind of musical bait did you use? Was it the melody? Notes in general? Im just asking because the-fear-of-missing-out is a really tasty treat! Just add some salt... Some lamb chops... Some beef... And you have some delicous protien to gobble up! Just make sure you plate it right.
Adding to bone marrow playlist
i feel like a song that captures the fear of missing out should have alot of genre switches constant instrument switching etc...
😢 can I ask fo mo songs like this
Minecraft tribute coming
I see what you did there 😉
Damn dats sad af
Thanks and sorry I guess haha
any chance of getting sheet music?

Hello, I'm sorry, I don't have one yet, but I will be making it when possible.
Is this your emotion?
I actually wrote this after my graduation ball, where I was overwhelmed with this emotion.
@@immasi8922
Then this a pure emotion. One that you transcribed in your own way.
just like... me :(
It's ok! You can try to start taking steps to get rid of these feelings, challenge yourself to do things you usually wouldn't. You can start small and eventually you'll get used to the feeling of overcoming the anxiety/inaction that holds you hostage from being able to enjoy your life to the fullest. I'm trying to work on it too.
okey thanks
the song made me think of how you are good at making songs and im garbage so even if i tried as hard as i could, you are trying too so id never be better. similar 🤔
@@itisinickt listen, dont sweat it man.. i often have a feeling all of my best songs are accidents. I dont really come from a formally trained background and most everything i do is purely guided by feel, so often i have a very difficult time recreating my previous succesfull attempt when i dont have the spark, which can be very depressing. All we can do is try our best to make what we can :) dont stop, continue and youll eventually make great things
This is really relatable and I was exactly in your situation a while ago but now everytime I see someone good it fires me up even more because I can reach that kind of skill someday.
It’s natural to be bad at something at the start.
Of course the stuff I uploaded isn’t necessarily beginner level, but that’s because I spent months learning both fl studio and music in itself. I never really liked my songs but then I made a decent one and uploaded it. It’s all seriously just spending time with the thing you wanna learn. Whether it’s making music, playing music or studying music theory, as long as you do what you feel like doing, progress will come.
In the end music is an expression of ones feelings.
It’s like a language. It can be learned.
I don’t even know what I am even writing this whole time but let me tell you from experience. I was bad at drawing. I was bad at making music. And other things. Some might learn faster than others. But how much potential you have, is the only thing you decide.
Were you tooooo fast?
Wdym? I feel like I'm missing the joke haha
@@immasi8922 kahoot reference
@@eboone oh, makes sense haha
Great until that bit at the very end (1:59) wasn't to my taste. The start of that last bit is good but then it makes me scrunch up my face involuntarily
I feel you, though ending the song off on an major chord was very intentional. It's supposed to partially rid the piece of an overwhelming sense of hopelessness that is otherwise present, and make you feel like even through all the negative emotions, there is something positive about recognizing said feelings as it opens up the doors to future change. Though it can obviously feel jarring as it contrasts the tone of the prior chords.
@@immasi8922 I often hear people talk about minor chords with such words but I feel like it's only because they've been trained to associate them with 'negative' emotions by some cultural quirks. I generally find them very pleasant and more interesting than majors
@@jwnomad They sure can be more interesting than major chords, though I wouldnt agree with you on the fact that people associate them with negative emotions because theyve been trained to do so. In my opinion, to most untrained ears, minor chords just sound more somber.
the best one yet :(
hey man i hate to keep bothering, but do you have a discord i can contact? i wanna ask something regarding beat collabing
What do you mean “keep bothering”? This is the first time I’ve seen you ask haha. I do have a discord, what kind of best collab are we talking?
why does dawtube bless me so!? I want to be a part of this phenomenon!
