I think I would feel about the way I did because my reasons for the reactions were mostly from things about the song/music/lyrics. Same reasons I love this work so much more. It gives me a much more in depth opinion where I certainly appreciate Taylor and her music/fans much more but I bet those songs would still hit me in a similar way to how they did the first time.
@JSteezy You have a right to your opinion. Mature people would rather hear honest reactions. Too many immature Swifties think people shouldn't have their own opinions. They are way too obsessed.
1st of all... this is a classic Taylor Swift track 5 Next, THANK YOU, finally someone who appreciates the lyric "now I'm begging for footnotes in the story of your life" as it is such a powerful and yet sad and tragic thought. She's trapped in this relationship, and can't or even worse, won't leave. And not sure if you caught it, but she starts and ends the song with the same 5 words, it's a vicious circle.
The most devastating part of it is that the character doesn't leave the partner. They just continue to 'sit and watch', hoping that one day their love will be reciprocated. Also, I absolutely love the way Taylor says 'but you tolerate it'. There's so much pent up anger and frustration in these few words, it hits so strongly... Especially in contrast to the previous, very soft and full of love lyrics. I think the harmonies perfectly reflect these contrasting feelings going through the character's mind: devotion, depression, spite.
I noticed the intensity in that line as well! Very frustrated, hurt, vulnerable. Like you can kind of hear tears under the way it is said. I didn't comment on it but I did notice that during my recording. It is a very good detail.
Great reaction! “Now I’m begging for footnotes in the story of your life” and “Take this dagger in me and remove it” hits me hard every time, so thanks for appreciating the song.
Rebecca is a 1938 Gothic novel...I looked into a bit thanks to your comment! Just letting you know I checked it out a little bit. Thanks for the fun fact!
You said something so profound, "The way these things are being said it's almost like these concepts are hitting me for the first time, even though they're not." Taylor really does know how to convey information, even the most cliched themes, in new and thought provoking ways. I love how articulate you are.
This is actually crazy to hear since...ugh...maybe I've been on the other side of the relatable story. Ouch, now I'm choking up a bit. Growing pains of life and moving on...growing apart. It happens :( but you have to keep growing and you have to follow your dreams. Maybe I've said too much lol
“tolerate it” is such a “dear john” (from her speak now album) level track five and it's just pure ouch all the way through lol. it also reminds me of charles and princess diana’s relationship in a way.
Hey, it's nice to see you back! I can't wait to see your reaction to Ivy, Coney Island and Cowboy Like Me. These three songs are the perfect trinity of this album 💞
If you enjoy Taylor Swift and appreciate her art, you are a swiftie. You don't need to know her cats' names or pick out all the Easter eggs in the Look What You Made Me Do music video to be a fan. You just need to like Taylor Swift. (:
It certainly wouldn't be the same but I wonder how it would hit. Listening back to this as I respond to comments, I think the delivery in musical form does a lot for how it comes across. Super important, in otherwords.
this song had to grow on me, musically (the lyrics got me from the beginning); the 5/4 time threw me off but I have come to believe that's purposeful- the theme of the song is someone sort of sitting on the edge of their seat, waiting for the other shoe to drop in the sense that they don't feel stable in the relationship. I think the timing of the music feeds into that feeling about not being on stable ground, if that makes sense? nice reaction!
It totally does! I think the time signature has a disorienting effect of some kind and that can definitely play into the vibe in various ways. It can be a little weird to get into a song with an odd time signature when you aren't ready for it. Music is literally just time and sound. Sometimes I think about that and it trips me out how as an art form, it is totally invisible and somewhat imaginary.
It's true, I did react to that one! However, the one you speak of might just be next in line. I didn't necessarily go in order but that's been explained a few times, I'll probably not mention it so much in future videos haha.
This song propelled me into my mental headspace from 2013. Long story short, it (2013) was a bad time... but this song made me feel vindicated or something...
I have to be in a very specific mood to listen to this one because she's just going for the jugular. The sound matches so well the way the words make me feel, for me! And the wierd time signature makes the delivery surprising somehow Her new/old song All Over Me is another example of nice harmonies (although in that case it's another singer providing the backing vocal, and it's more recognisable as a harmony as opposed to the layering you were talking about here!)
This must be the latest that has some reworked songs, right? And a few new ones? I have to get to that. Excited to. I can see why this song would be so emotional but I'd also want it to play in a place that it isn't competing with anything. Some songs I just don't listen to while driving because the important subtlety is lost from the road or tire noise/wind noise.
First time on your channel and your eloquence is just wow ✨ Btw, your reaction to the lyrics made me specially emotional... I cried as I sang along 🤷🏻♀️

@@JSteezy Yes, first (now second, I suppose) comment on the TH-cam... Honestly it still feels uncomfortable, but most fun/worthwhile things are made by stepping out of your comfort zone and the appreciation for the little things - so thank you for finally getting me to say “anything”. Your tangents on perception (the sick cycle carousel, back and forth or as stated in Coney Island IE: Merry-Go, over and over) and way of thinking reminds me of my friends back home. @@JSteezy That’s a good question... never thought about it, but I suppose it’s because my old coworker would play country - so it was inevitable. She gave me a cd and away I went. Did it hit the feels that hard? Ha, I get it. I actually got a little emotional thinking about it from another angle but it is a song that could move anybody anyway.
Good to see you! Love this song. The tempo is odd , I think a 5/4, which makes it interesting musically. I thought lyrics were strong until the bridge and final chorus. Her words at that point are so cutting and devastating, it elevated it and I love the song. I agree below champagne problems. Every line is meticulously placed, many metaphors, well placed diction, even an Elvis reference. Again with piano, it is spectacularly well written.
5/4 indeed! I somehow glossed over that a bit but did notice the syncopation. Haha yeah that must have been the song I was referring to. Might be a detail about that song that keeps me from really loving it. Happens with a song every now and then.
@@JSteezy I remember now! Ah, yes, you are not a fan of CP? I like it because I appreciate the lyrics, the metaphors, the literary references, the use of diction, the word choice, how she puts words and phrases together I find to like on this track very much. As a song, it is ok. I'm more interested in the word use and storytelling on this track than the melody and / or instrumentation. So, you haven't decided to do ATW yet (Grammy performance vs album lyric video). Same chord progression. Its a storytelling song, but not as complex as CP, but a vividly written story. This one uses more metaphors and is wonderfully written, ATW is wonderfully written in a different way, you can picture the scene, the weather, the time of year, her use of colors, its a wonderful story. But, not a complicated story. CP is more complex. But, they were written about 10 years apart.
the reason you may get requests for ATW is that it is considered to be, by critics and fans, the best song she has ever written. It hasn't been dethroned yet. Musically, it is not complicated and probably not interesting (chord progression, etc). But, lyrically this is the best song she's ever written. Putting melody and lyrics together.... this is her best. Its not a complicated song, it is very straightforward with the story. But, she got this one right and people want you to react to it because it is everyone's (99.999%) #1 song, written when she was 21? but, if you do listen to it, you have to follow the story, and not be too critical about the instrumentation because that is not the purpose of that song, it is supposed to be simplistic in order to highlight the story. The story is the song. th-cam.com/video/XB7noMnaGO8/w-d-xo.html Grammy version.
Not really related to the song, but if you enjoy harmonies, I'd recommend you to listen to a group/project called Boygenius. It's formed by Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, they are really talented writers and singers, and their harmonies just give me chills.

the reason you may get requests for ATW is that it is considered to be, by critics and fans, the best song she has ever written.

Grammy version.
Not really related to the song, but if you enjoy harmonies, I'd recommend you to listen to a group/project called Boygenius. It's formed by Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, they are really talented writers and singers, and their harmonies just give me chills.
Huh, I could check that out. Greaat harmony is always such a lovely thing to hear done well in a song.
hearing a 2018 tiny desk performance now
@@JSteezy Great! Did you like it? What do you think about them? 👀
@@pilyswiftie8316 Yes and I'll have to check out some of the studio stuff sometime. I play a lot of music pretty often but hopefully that comes up sometime. I am always behind on things to listen to.
@@JSteezy Oh, I get it, I hope you get enough time to listen to all the music you are behind on :)
Just wondering if you will be reacting to her new song just released?
Maybe! What is it? I thought about doing the Grammy stuff but youtube might not allow that.
@@JSteezy it is called you all over me. It is one of the vault songs released last Friday.
ok but his voice tho... 😰
LOL my voice appreciates it. "Thank you", says my voice (in my voice)
I am a huge Taylor Swift fan, but I'd never identify as a Swifty. There are some suuuuper toxic elements to that fandom.
It's the lyric writing that really drew me in since the 1989 album. Didn't love Reputation, but all the albums since have just gotten better and better.
You really don't know what it means they tolerate you, he can barely stand you, hahaha, did h him,
I enjoyed the reaction but I get annoyed everytime you say ...it's Taylor Swift or whatever...
You just so much talking, i don't like it 🥺
If you don't like it, just don't watch! 🤔
His insights are actually good compared to other wannabe swiftie creators who researches words like “She is the music industry“ to please us.
The point of my talking is to provide a clear expression of what I am going through as the listener. I try to balance the detail with the listening but of course, not everybody will like how you do something and I can't please everybody. Haha, however, it's not my goal to. I'm here to do my thing and be honest. I apprecaite the comment. I don't take it as you being hateful, maybe just letting me know why you didn't like it.
@@JSteezy dont worry most of us appreciate the talking, king!!
@@raymarksobebe5058 Thank you for the reassurance. I feel the love :)
