I plan on it, I have seen the video listed, but haven't jumped in yet.

The lollapalooza set is one of the best performances I've ever seen him play. He was dialed in that day. He changed his rig a bit since this. Either way not only is he one of the baddest players out there he has the charisma , stage presence, and confidence than anyone I have seen since SRV 🤷‍♂️......Tim Reynolds touched on what can be done with effects on an acoustic......but Billy is perfecting it. Easily the best overdriven acoustic tone I've ever heard......and the Banjo head is fine ....he just wore the white off the skin ....there is no hole.

Thank you Bob on all accounts. His Overdriven tone is truly great considering how challenging it can be with an acoustic. I have a older video coming up, Away from the Mire, where his tone had more fizzy overtones. Still good, just not as refined.

@@GuitarSoloReactions I agree......he has definitely refined it over years.

@@GuitarSoloReactions Also ......remember the recordings vary greatly between each other. In person is another story.

@@bcummings2187 of course, I try not to talk in absolutes. I have played many gigs and every stage is a different story figuratively.

@@GuitarSoloReactions From what I recall he uses K&K pickups ......a Pure Mini on the Bridge for when he does that cleaner bluegrass stuff and a sound hole pickup for when he jams out. He has a toggle switch on the top that he can switch back and forth between the 2.

I love that you are freely going down the Billy worm hole. Lots to see with him and the band. Some of my favorite live videos, if you can find the one that has black sabbath cover of Planet Caravan into Spinning into GD Dark Star. think it was like 4/11/21 or something. And you should really check out some of his real videos...since you like guitars, Guitar Peace would be a great start. Looking forward to more video drops of Billy and the band.

Stacy, thank you for joining me and many thanks for the recommendations. I can't wait to hear the version of Planet Caravan.

The banjo head is not ripped. He has just played it so much he wore thru the coating on the head to the clear part. Some heads on banjo's are clear and some are coated and that white color.

It's not ripped, the pinky and ring finger rest there. Over time, any sweat, finger oils and such, along with what's in the air, especially outdoor venues, it stains. It would be unplayable with the slightest tear anywhere.

First, I enjoyed your reaction. Billy's banjo head isn't torn. It's a frosted head, and that's the wear patern, if I'm not mistaken. As far as a video you might like, this is from Merlefest several years ago th-cam.com/video/whpWmNJFLy4/w-d-xo.html

    I have a suggestion:
    Train.
    th-cam.com/video/W4hrE42-l-I/w-d-xo.html
It was recorded around the same time as the "Turmoil" video, but with the current bass player, Royal Massat.
BTW, the mando player, Drew Matulich (check him out as well...he has some vids on YT) has since been replaced by Jarrod Walker not that long after this performance was recorded. The guitar solo is killer.

The version with John Mailander is better.
