If you import a vector file from Illustrator as a smart object, the you have option to double klik on the layer (file), then Illustrator will open the Illustrator file that then you are able to edit, when you are finish editing the file. you save it, and then it will be updated in Photoshop. If you want to work with something similar to smart objects in Illustrator then symbols and Appearance panel is the closed to it. Symbols : it can be really use full. since if you update a symbol. then all off the copies of the symbol will be updated aswell in the same file. Appearance panel is a bit simalier to smart object in Illustrator since it is none destructiv.
@@MelArmstrong another great thing with symbols while creating patterns in illustrator. is if you want to swap an element with out delete the symbol. select a symbol in the pattern your are working in go to - select - same - symbol instance. and then you just swap all selected elements at ones. the is also super use full if you are creating basic pattern templeas in illustrator with symbols
I often talk about smart objects in some of my classes and show how I use them. This was just to give a better understanding of what they are and why I use them.
Thank you for your work, you are so inspiring! ❤❤❤
@@Alinastic you’re very welcome! ☺️

Mel, I have photoshop for procreate, will this lesson work in this format?
So you can only change objects to Smart Objects in Photoshop (not Illustrator)?
I would like to know too
Illustrator is vector so smart objects aren’t needed. You can scale, rotate etc without distortion in Illustrator.
