â QUICK QUESTION: Do you process mostly in color or black & white?
The colors, Duke, the colorsssss!!!
Black and white at first to get the contrast right. Then I switch to color and adjust accordingly.
color
Color
Feel more confident in black and white, and sometimes it's what fits the scene better imo. In black and white, I feel like it's more about shapes and lum, and that color can be a little distracting. That said, I'm trying to do more with color these days. The amount of color (saturation) is the big question for me. It's a fine line for sure.
It would be good if they include a button that narrows the selection down automatically with one click, so your not dragging sliders everytime. great explanation, thanks
Finally!!!! Someone who can demonstrate this function perfectly!!! Thank you Mark!!!
Awesome to hear - thank ya!
Nice video; however, don't you think using point color within masks would be better/faster? Especially with the new AI mask, for example, select the sky and then use the point color blue and make the changes you want.
The best part of this tool is being able to use this within a mask. I've always wanted to isolate the HSL panel to local selections, but this does a fine job. So glad they did this. Thanks for the video.
100% agree!
Mark, you have become my Go To guy for Lightroom enhancements. Your explanations are clear and helpful so I can easily apply the tool to my projects.
I've been loving this color selection update. I used to do similar things by using multiple intersected masks and it only sometimes worked right. This new way isn't just less clunky, but the results are significantly better. I'm surprised more people haven't been talking about this and the curves in masks. Those are two fantastic additions.
I was having a bit of trouble getting the point color tool to work well. This video with the narrowing down the range to just the point was the ticket. This was very very helpful for me.....not sure I would have thought of this on my own. So thank you kindly.
Color. Always. Until now, when you've asked the question and I've read some of the responses. I'll now start using a bit of B&W work in my processing.
Point Color with Mask is a game changer. Thanks!
Again Mark you produced another video that actually has substance. I only wish others would do the same, there is another channel I watch, like you produced content that is easy to follow and understand. I've been in photography for almost 25 yrs and as a lifetime learner your content teaches me something everytime I watch.âĪ
100X better! Thank you so much for sharing and teaching
Yet another easy-to-follow and absorb example of excellent training!
Thanks Mark. Once again a clear and easy explanation of a process. How about tackling the new HDR feature soon?
ðĪ Yet another easy-to-follow and absorb example of excellent training!
Thank you for helping me understand this new Lr tool. I've been trying to figure it out. ðð―ðð―
Glad to do it!
Nice demo of the new feature, thanks!
This is awesome! Did not realize how powerful this can be.
Great video thanks
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing! ðĪ
ððŧ thanks for sharing knowledge
Thanks Mark!!
Thank you Mark for the detailed simple explanation.
Very helpful, Thank You!!!
Brilliant Thank you
Nicely done Mark
This was very helpful, thank you!
Thanks, Mark, nice tip!
Amazingly helpful.
Your best LR video yet! Thanks!
Finally!!! Thank you
Really, amazingâĪ
Adobe needs to streamline this and just have this is one click versus having to go through all of the steps to just pinpoint the color I'm trying to do. This is great this works though and will be using this method thank you!
Hi Mark, thanks so much for your Lightroom videos. I used to shoot a lot in the early 2000s and have recently picked up photography again. When I put the camera down around 2007 Lightroom was only just a thing. Image editing has changed a lot since then and your videos have really helped me pick it up again quickly and start having a good time with my photography. Thank you!
Thanks!
another clear and concise explanation - many thanks!
You explained this perfectly Thank you!!!!!
fantastic demo... you just blew my mind. Thanks!!
Thanks, Mark. I've been using the mixer tool but not point colour because I didn't know how. Thanks for explaining it!
Thanks for the clear and concise explanation Mark. I was a little confused on how to use this tool but this video has made it make sense.
Great to hear the video was helpful!
Thank you so much for this video! I am an amateur photographer and color blind so being able to pinpoint colors will be so helpful and to help correct an issue I have been having this week.
Thanks Mark, I've not dived into it but after watching your video I'm excited to check out this new feature!
Excellent demonstration of this great new tool. Thanks!
Wow-- such good information here-- will have to try
thank you so much for excellent class . very well explained
Excellent, Mark. Wow, this looks like a very powerful and usable tool. I have not done too much color adjusting in my photos up to now because I was often unsatisfied with the results. I'm looking forward to trying this out.
Very useful, Mark. I wanted to do that yesterday, but was not able. ð thank you
Excellent Mark, I have wanted to do this sort of edit a few times in the past and always wondered why the colour mixer cannot be included in masking to achieve the same effect?
Lovely video ð
Thank you Mark, thatâs a game changer for me ððŧ
Excellent video Mark. Thank you for your efforts I think we all count on you to stay sharp with Lightroom (no pun intended). I do mostly color but also some B&W. Thank you again.
Very helpful, and as luck would have it, a very timely video Mark - many thanks, much appreciated.
Very cool!
Thank You Mark you have explained that very well. I was wondering how to fine tune my selection. Keep up the great work. Mike, Northern Ireland ððŧ
Great explanation, wasnât sure how to isolate individual colors. Thanks
Iâm here for it!
Thatâs awesome, Mark! Thanks for demonstrating it.
Happy to do it!
What an eye opener! This was an awesome tutorial on using this new tool to its best advantage. Thanks!!
Thanks so much!
Best explanation ever.
Very helpful! Thanks for this lesson!
Happy to do it Randy!
Simply Amazing!! Thanks for this tutorial!
Thanks so much!
This is incredible, Mark! Iâve learned so much from your videos! Seriously, thanks a million!!
Great to hear Todd!
Thanks--great info on this new tool! Great to know that you can use it within masks as well as for global edits.
This is so cool! They are turning LR in a user friendly version of ps more and more!
I just had this issue on a recent weekend trip where i struggled to get the colors ârightâ (as i saw/felt em on location) beautifull white top mountains and fall forest beneath, but i just couldnt get it to look right and i realized the only way would be to spend a lot of time in ps (im not very skilled in ps) or use convoluted radial filters to try and get stuff right. Either the snow was too warm or forest to mushy coldâĶ Both didnt really tickled my interest. I rarely spend hours on a picture edit. This might just do the trick tho! I need to update my lrc asap and test it out! Beside its rather hidden without your video i might not even noticed that new feature!
Great tutorial - thank you ð
Thanks Kevin!
Very informative. Thank you.
Thanks Greg!
I have so much to learn, thanks for the tips
Love to hear it James!
Thanks for this. It reinforces a video I saw earlier on the colour mixer. I was doing a test on a photo I was having trouble with the other day and LR had the worst colour and C1 pro was marginally better than DXO PL 7 I will try this again in LR and see if I can get it to the same as C1
Great explanation! (Iâd say cloning is where Lightroom is most behind though.)
This is a great explanation of this new tool. Thanks, Mark.
Glad you enjoyed it Bob!
Thanks, Mark. I've been exploring this new tool, but your demonstration and clear explanation has really opened up its full range of possibilities.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Magistrale dÃĐmonstration, trÃĻs utile, merci
Great video, Mark. Game changer for sure
Thanks a million!
Thanks Mark. This was very well explained. It's a feature that I will use often, no that I understand some of the nuances.
I'm still learning about this new update, but I'm sure I'm going to love it as much as this video suggests. Thanks for explaining it in a way that makes sense!
Thanks for checking it out!
Love that tool! I am such a B&W geek as soon as you hit 'visual range' I would have been on a tangent! :D
Sooo Cool!
Great demo! I hadn't used this tool much, but now I know I need to get started. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for checking it out Bruce!
Wow! Once again, it was a great teaching moment. I appreciate how you take time to explain things in terms I can understand and at a pace that I can follow easily. I believe too many tutorials talk way too fast, which for a novice photographer like myself is frustrating to follow.
You're amazing, and I look forward to more instructions.
Thanks so much - really appreciate it!
Hi Mark Have you noticed that when you mask an area the. Masking process appears to give a green colour cast before any adjustments are made. Great video thanks
Excellent video. And a game changer!
Thanks Richard!
Thank you Mark. I learned something very valuable today.
Glad to hear it!
Great!
Lightbulb moment, been struggling with the same problems. Thoroughly enjoy your videos have learned so much. Many thanks ðð
Awesome to hear!
Game changer!! I was just working on some edits on some fall shots last week and was getting so frustrated because of this **exact** issue so I set it aside and now Iâm excited to get back to it and finish em up! THANK YOU for showing off this tool!!!
Game changer is the perfect description!
The color tool is fantastic, but I really wish LR would have other graphic visualizations for color as well, similar to what is used in video editing softwares such as Davinci Resolve. I've found some of those tools quite useful in color grading in video.
I like this new tool! I hope that you do more videos like this showcasing the tool.
Glad you liked it!
This is greatâĶthx for explaining! But this can also be accomplished in PS with luminosity masks, with even greater refinement. I guess for those that donât feel comfortable with PS and luminosity masking, this is a good alternative.
Thank Mark! Very helpful. I was playing with this last night wondering how to apply it.
Glad to do it Troy!
Thanks so much Mark. Had no idea what this was and now I know...
Glad to do it!
Thank you Mark. I was working on some fall foliage and was getting flustered over everything either to yellow or orange. Now I have something to work with, thank you.
I do mostly color but have been trying black and white.
Glad to do it Kathy!
seems like the transitions will be harsh with this technique. Just drop a gradient mask on the corner and then use the saturation slider in the color picker.
Nice one Mark. Colour.
Thank ya!
Thanks Mark, Although I loved the tool I kept struggling a bit. Your explanation helped turn on the light bulbs.
Awesome to hear!
Thanks for this practical video. Being a darktable user I find that you see less of this kind of video for paid tools. On the other hand, i think darktable's drawn¶metric masks have offered this sort of control for a long time, albeit maybe in a package not so accessible to a lot of people
Ok, back to redo my fall foliage photos ðĪ

Absolutely stellar review, Mark! The Point Color Tool seems like a game changer for nuanced edits. Have you found it affects the workflow speed significantly for professional editing? Thanks for the thorough insight!
Wow, Adobe, yes Adobe of all developers, finally figured out how to target a color or a narrow color range. Phenomenal. ð Way more than overdue for a RAW editor.
I'm not absolutely sure but didn't DxoPhotoLab figured it out too?
edit. Yes they did. They call it Local HSL
So thankful for this great information! Is there any way to accomplish this on the mobile app? I often edit with my tablet so this would be great.
I don't believe it can be done in mobile
@@MarkDenneyPhotoI figured as much but I hoped I had missed something. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
Thanks Mark. Do you think the difference between LR and CO is less, with the new LR tools ? For landscape photography do you still prefer CO? The latest update of CO with the AI masks is very promising as it was an advantage that LR had over CO.
