hey I got my hands on one of these and Im real excited to say all 4 tracks record but there is this audible hum you hear when the music ends. when I record it to Ableton it looks like a sine wave when you zoom in and its almost the same level as the music when you zoom out. I really dont want to send back another one of these cause getting a not ridiculous priced one is getting harder every time I look.
That's a shame...do you have the facility in your DAW to figure out what frequency it is? I was wondering if it is the same as or a multiple of the mains frequency in your region?
@@Tetrakan I’m not 100% sure, I’ll look into my plugins tonight but its like low end hum. I’m in America and it’s 120v. You think it’s like 60 cylcle hum coming from my wall? Also the pots are really dirty, the headphone out is real loose and cutting in and out like it needs to be replaced and the power input is so loose even moving the machine will knock the power out, and before I try to fix these things, I’m 130$ in, you think the juice is worth the squeeze? Or should I send it back?
Thanks for this video, helps out a lot. I tracked down some cold solder joints on a very dirty unit I just picked up which fixed the power jack and monitor pot that was popping. I'm only getting a R side monitor on stereo headphones unless I pull the jack out halfway. I tried re-tensioning and cleaning, any other things to try before replacing the jack?
also a note, and for anyone reading this- top right screw on the board with all the pots is the spot for the case corner screw, I was wondering why I couldn't get the screw in that corner in
Hey there. Trying to get power to my old porta studio 03 and can’t seem to find the problem. Have opened it up and not seeing anything that looks broken. Just won’t turn on. Any suggestions on where to start or another video of yours I may have missed? Thanks!
@@papslappy if there’s no sign of power at all a likely scenario is someone plugged in positive tip 12v PSU instead of negative tip. This tends to blow the regulator near the power socket which drops the 12 volt from the PSU to 9v for use by the opamps in the audio circuit, and blow any or all of the polarised electrolytic capacitors connected to circuit ground. The solution is replace these components, it’s an afternoons work if you know how to solder.
@ thanks so much for the reply! Yeah I’m kind of an amateur with this stuff so I may need to find a local person that can help with the soldering. Is there a go-to site for replacement parts for these things or just eBay?Thanks again for the information. Extremely helpful!
A man after my own heart...after all I have three Portas....two of them have their parts in glass jars awaiting reassembly! Carry on! 😄

@ you’d get it cheaper from a wholesaler like digikey or mouser, but if eBay is easier that’s fine
@@Tetrakan thanks for the recs!
