Beyond the Mind-Body Problem: New Paradigms in the Science of Consciousness
Elie During, PhD introduces the topic for the panel discussion "Mind-Body Connections: How Does Consciousness Shape the Brain?" The mind-body problem has traditionally been framed as a conundrum concerning the relation between two seemingly incompatible substances-corporeal and spiritual. Indeed, the elusive nature of consciousness itself certainly does not render it a good candidate for reduction to a physical basis. Noting that physical theories alone would be compatible with the absence of consciousness, popular philosophical arguments have long highlighted the fact that an adequate theory of consciousness requires more than mere brain physics can provide. In short, there is something more to our minds than meets the eye in brain imagery.

    The mind-body problem: explained
‘’Dualism maintains a rigid distinction between the realms of mind and matter.
Monism maintains that there is only one unifying reality, substance or essence in terms of which everything can be explained.
Each of these categories contain numerous variants. The two main forms of dualism are substance dualism, which holds that the mind is formed of a distinct type of substance not governed by the laws of physics, and property dualism, which holds that mental properties involving conscious experience are fundamental properties, alongside the fundamental properties identified by a completed physics. The three main forms of monism are physicalism, which holds that the mind consists of matter organized in a particular way; idealism, which holds that only thought truly exists and matter is merely an illusion; and neutral monism, which holds that both mind and matter are aspects of a distinct essence that is itself identical to neither of them.’’
    The mind-body problem: from Wikipedia
None of these conceptualizations is anywhere near the truth regarding the issue...
This is the idiocy you get when you look at individuals as separate entities rather than looking at individuals as a part of a greater whole…
The mind-body problem is made into an insignificance when one understands the full import of the Aha moment, followed by the much fuller import of the Aha experience.
The Aha moment is the wholistic body experience whereby you come to ‘’know’’ a piece of information is the truth. When you come to know that the information is the truth, you become happier...and your whole body lets you ‘’know’’...within the Aha moment…
This is one of the things you become aware of when you are in an Aha moment.
Matter exists, regardless of whether you have conceived that it exists or not.
And this is also one of the things you become aware of when you are in an Aha moment.
Mind exists, regardless of whether you have conceived that it exists or not.
And finally, this is what you become aware of when you are in an Aha moment.
Mind and matter are made up of the same thing… energy... in either its stored form or its active form, regardless of whether you have conceived that they are made up of the same energy or not.
The question then becomes; ‘’How can I increase the frequency of my Aha moments?’’
Almost every child created gets a ‘genius capable’ intelligence, conscience, and common sense, how frequently they are able to utilize these three elemental aspects of their brains is a free will choice entirely theirs to make... at first... and for some indeterminate time thereafter…
Understand that during a child's youthful and formative years, his or her decisions and consequential actions are somewhat clouded by parental influences, familial influences, community influences, governmental influences, religious influences, irreligious influences, cultural influences, economic influences, ethnic influences, etc… otherwise, they would be thinking at or near genius capabilities.
Understand that in the face of and in spite of these influences, genius level thinkers have made a choice to practice the utilization of their genius capable intelligence, conscience and common sense, until they have habituated the utilization of their genius capable intelligence, conscience, and common sense, and that is why they experience more frequent Aha moments.
While average level thinkers, the majority, are out there engaging in our ‘entertainments’ and doing other mis-directed and mis-informed and mis-guided pursuits, genius level thinkers are practicing their thinking, and in consequence, are regarded by the majority of world citizenry as being of a higher level IQ...
Understand that all it takes is PRACTICE… one individual at a time, until a worldwide tipping point is reached, then humankind will be able to develop a truly equality-driven (the equality of intelligence) civilized society...
Striving daily to utilize your genius capable intelligence, conscience, and common sense, accelerates the frequency of your Aha moments, your NOW…
You will experience happier-ness, within your more frequent Aha moments, as a consequence of your rigorous utilization of your genius capable intelligence, conscience, and common sense...
That is what it means to live in the NOW…
I am an everyman…If I can do it, anyone can…
