In episode 91 of Whisky in SV, I did a blind taste of a sample of the latest Wild Turkey Master's Keep Release named Triumph (courtesy of my friend Donny), which is apparently Wild Turkey's oldest rye whiskey release to date at 10 years old. I put this up against the relatively new Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Rye which is also from the Wild Turkey distillery and can be relatively easily found for around a quarter of the cost of the special release. Despite both of these being barely legal ryes, the SiB has a much stronger herbal rye profile on the nose and the special release has the expected bourbon-lover's rye profile. However, despite the promising nose, the Triumph has a pretty off-putting bitter aftertaste that renders it completely unenjoyable for me.
