    Hotel rooms in Thailand are very clean, better than those in Japan, South Korea and Singapore

    Good content as usual, Cal. I really like the area between Asok and Phrom Phong. With all the shopping and transportation available, it is easy to get to just about anything you need. As a techie, having Fortune Town only a couple of stops from Asok is the icing on the cake.

    I have lived in Bangkok for 13 years in 4 different areas and of those places you mention I would choose Asoke. If your coming on a holiday especially as it has the BTS and MRT to get you almost anywhere you would want to go. However there are other places to live long term which is better like where I live. Its only 15 minutes by train from Asoke but the cost of living is way cheaper. The locals are old, friendly and have been living in the area all their life. A pint of beer will cost you 85 baht. Food is crazy cheap. Live music venues. Great bars. Renting a 45 sqm condo will cost you 10k a month. Where is it you ask? Haha. I want it to stay just the way it is.

    • @thebangkokguide

      I agree. Asok is always great for a newcomer…then it’s nicer to migrate a bit further! Followed the same path here haha

      Great observations! I have lived in Bangkok since 2016, and within 6-8 stops on BTS/MRT from Asoke, there are loads of interesting & authentic areas where costs are REALLY manageable.
      If you like the sound of what our friend mentions, try Udom Suk, On Nut, or Phra Khanong to the east of centre - barely a 15 minute ride by BTS Sky Train.
      If you’re here for a 1 week/ 2 week blitz, for sure stick to the centre (Asoke / Phrom Phong / Ploenchit / Silom-Sathorn) - but for a longer, less manic, stay, head out 6-8 stops in any direction.

    Awesome video thanks. Both times in Bangkok I stayed in the sukhumvit area. I'll be coming back to Bangkok for a year as soon as possible and I plan on living Riverside. I figure I can get to sukhumvit easy enough for nightlife and a bar that I like and have the beauty and accessibility of Riverside. But your video has opened up my eyes to even more about Bangkok which I will be happy to explore over the next year.
    It's such a wonderful City. And crazy too, and I love that.

    Thanks for another good video. I’ve really enjoyed staying in Saphan Taksin over the years. I like that it hasn’t changed much and location is very convenient. Trying Thong Lo at the moment and so far so good. Moving to Ekkamai later on to see what that’s like. I didn’t know much about Rama 9 so thank you for mentioning it. I’ve also read somewhere that Bang Na is an up and coming area so I might explore that too.
    I totally agree that access to public transport is a must in Bkk. More than 10 minutes walk from a bts station in this heat is a deal breaker lol
    Thanks again and all the best.

    • @thebangkokguide
      @thebangkokguide  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for the comment and kind words! Saphan Taksin is a great area. Really love Thonburi across the bridge as well. It’s barely changed in a decade since I first lived there… it’s probably the most relaxed and peaceful area in Bangkok. I stayed in Thonglor for a few months. Definitely a nice area but I wanted a little more mall a/c 😅 I like Rama 9 but it can get a little busy. It probably gets divided opinions from expats! Haven’t spent much time in Bangna. Shall check it out! Thanks for the input!

      As he says in the video it really depends on what you're looking for. Sukumvitt those where I stayed both times in Bangkok and I love it there. The first time I stayed at the solitaire Bangkok 11. The 2nd time the Miami hotel. The Solitaire was definitely more upscale but the Miami was good value. Either way enjoy your stay it's a great place.
      I was also in Hua Hin and Sam Roi Yot and Jomtien Beach. All were cool for different reasons. When I come back to retire and live it will be Bangkok for the first year. I'll choose to live in the Riverside area but party and hang out in Sukumvitt.

    Been to BKK twice as a solo traveller, and stayed in Ploenchit/Chit lom area and Asok/ Sukhumvit area. Both are amazing. Asok takes the cake for me just cos its so freaking convenient! And Terminal 21 food court is crazy cheap like u mentioned! I will be making my third solo trip to BKK next week and will be staying at Asok once again! Perhaps I will check out Silom next time too!

      First timer, stay close to the river cuz all main sightseeing attractions are close to the water. Returning bkk addicts: stay close to Asoke/Siam. JIMHO: Siam paragon food court is the best in the world. Pier 21 is 2nd. but Siam paragon blows pier 21 out of the water.

    I know all these areas except Thonburi. I think you break it down well. As a first time tourist with some money I think I would choose Asok or the Riverside. After a few visits would shit to Thong Lor as it is still fancy but it is interesting to hang out in a less tourist-centered place. For a western backpacker, Khao San. I wouldn't recommend Rama 9. It's very very busy and traffic heavy, and generally low on charm.

      Thanks for the kind words! Bangkok is generally very safe. There aren’t any truly unsafe areas like in western cities. Just be cautious later at night in darker back alleys but even then it’s fairly safe. Cheers

  • @teeyakdon8835
    @teeyakdon8835 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    It depends on the location of the places you want to visit. It always the best if you stay near the main transportation like MRT or BTS.
    The new locations are near the yellow and purple lines which may far from the central of Bangkok, though there are many interesting areas you can visit and less scammers.
    If you have a plan to travel to other provinces or other countries, the red line which connected to Donmuang airport may be another option.
    Most of the malls and markets open until 9 or 10 PM and some open after midnight. (Though you may find it harder to travel without the metros).

    I'm very comfortable with your English diction despite some slight differences but probably acceptable between yours and the diction of some other pronunciation inputs found in American English dictionaries. Regarding closed captions, it's a plus to have Thai places spelled out and displayed correctly on the screen (I'm not sure about it, though), unlike other videos featuring incomprehensible spellings, making it hard for me to follow. Anyway, it's much better than a lot of them on the same subject, for sure. Do you set this up in advance? Or is it just by accident as randomness in closed captioning is a norm here? Engaging and dedicated video. Much appreciated. Thanks.

      @thebangkokguide  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the kind words. For condos, there are plenty of pet friendly ones. Normally it is best to ask an agent when you are looking after you arrive in Thailand. And for the hotel, I would recommend checking Booking.com as they have a pet friendly hotel section. Here is the link: www.booking.com/pets/city/th/bangkok.html?keep_landing=1&sid=5fb115421024448d78054d7adad6741e&aid=318615;label=Low_CPA_English_EN_TH_21461894665-_*wrNf_0EmJ2E6HXFRdRXgSM640874783491:pl:ta:p1:p2:ac:ap:neg:fi:tidsa-55482331735:lp1012728:li:dem:dm:ag21461894665:cmp340122385;ws=&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD_Ls1JwsKdunq0Ap3KNI_QjKK0oB&gclid=Cj0KCQjwlN6wBhCcARIsAKZvD5iblYwiUsKxEqNEsQVW3Ud6OT15blD2yKRAPDst__kTl8gb2bckKngaAuSQEALw_wcB

      Asok can be the best option as it’s very easy to get around the city… I think if it’s your first time in Bangkok go with the the central location as it’s much easier to explore from there.

    Which area is best if you wanna move out there from us?
    One of priority is that the actual apartment is quiet you dont hear people next door talking etc,
    I’ve read lots of these new condos have super thin walls, do you know any that are more solid and soundproof?

    • @thebangkokguide
      @thebangkokguide  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree. Soundproofing is a must. I do a lot of condo tours on the channel and I always do wall checks as you can tell if you’ll have noise. There are lots of great older buildings in the Sukhumvit and Sathorn areas. I recommend both for newcomers

    Hi Cal, I really appreciate the info in this video. I'm very curious about two areas specifically: Thonglor and Ekamai. I have Japanese ties an speak Japanese, and would love to live in an area where that culture is prevalent. I guess my concern would be how much more expensive it is. Is the price difference (for rent, food, etc.) significant? Which of Thonglor and Ekamai is more expensive (I'm guessing Thonglor?). I'm looking to live in Bangkok for at least six months and go from there...Thanks again!!!

    • @thebangkokguide
      @thebangkokguide  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thonglor is more expensive than Ekamai generally. And both are more expensive than most other areas. That being said, prices aren’t too high anywhere so it’s best to look at the area you really like and find what works for you. Traffic gets annoying if you’re far from your preferred location. Cheers!
