To all nkrumaist and until the whole world knows the truth, ghana first president Nkrumah inherited a rich country in terms of natural resources, but lacking technological and managerial skills. However he became arrogant and embarked on gargantuan spending spree with no coherent strategies to replenish outlays from inherited assets.
The all powerful almighty God who spoke and things happened didn't need six days to finish creation,he could finish everything one day or even a second, but just as in his usual humility came to earth and was brutally crucified on the cross, systematically finished creation in six days. Why six days?Maybe God is speaking to mankind to finish one major project at a time.
Had first post colonial president Nkrumah, prioritised rural development and mechanized agriculture, before imports substituting industrialisation, ghana now would not be importing more food than export.
Mechanized agriculture, including construction of canals to carry water to potential farming areas and for transportation, would eventually cause many farm workers to lose their jobs, since farm machines would replace human workers.
Then large scale imports substituting industrialisation, would be a sound policy, since it would create employment opportunities for displaced farm workers and first time job seekers.
The rush to imports substituting industrialisation, shortly after independence with a population of about six million when agriculture was manual and highly labor intensive, caused farm workers in remote areas without clean drinking water, electricity etc,to take newly created lucrative factory jobs in cities where all the modern amenities were concentrated.
The root cause of urbanization problems and ghana losing her one time position as world leading producer and exporter of cocoa.
It should be noted that, the United States didn't become industrial giant overnight,it has evolved from agriculture to industrialization and now information economy.
The United States now a highly industrial country, still exports more beef than imports, due to strong agriculture foundation, while ghana a developing sub Saharan Africa country with vast arable land imports beef with no export,
Paradoxically ghana has one of the highest unemployment rate in the world, with many people having barely enough food,

Why do we love to draw parallels with Europe and America? These entities set the rules of the global capitalist system. The U.S dollar is global reserve currency backed up a behemoth military that ensures the U.S gets the biggest cut of the world resources at her own price. All these concepts of deficit financing and others are effective as the strength of your political economy. Let me be clear: Countries don't get to the top solely on economic policies. We need to eschew this unrealistic optimism. The Chinese are a permanent member of the UN security council. There are things they can get we can't. Japan and Korea are basically appendages of Pax Americana. Above all, Japan used to be an imperial power. We don't have any similarities with these countries.
