    Thank you for a very practical and optimized process of using the wavy shuttle. Your process is nice and effective without unnecessary extra steps. Thank you for your contributions to the online self-learning weaving community of which I have lately become one. I have watched so many of your wonderful homey calm videos where you explain with such love and care. You are a star keeping handcrafts alive :)

    You just saved me loads of money I never thought of using cardboard. I didn’t realise it would work better after changing the shed, excellent tip. I like the zig zag it seems more defined. Thank you so much.

    Hah, mom's visiting next month and she's a self proclaimed "loomatic" as I do woodcraft she asked me if I would make her a few wavy shuttles and I had to do a little research! Great video to help me decide on dimensions as now I've actually seen one in use! Thanks much

    If you combine this with your tapestry techniques, you can fill in the gaps with separate pieces of yarn and it would stabilize the change over and make it more wearable. Yes it does look like a face. If you fill in the empty areas as if you were creating 2 eyes, a mouth and cheeks afterwards using tapestry techniques, that would be so fun.
    So inspired. Thanks Kelly!

    Thank you for sharing this technique. I am hoping these patterns will work out on my homemade tapestry loom because that's the only loom I can really afford to have. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a rigid heddle loom someday. Thank you again.

    Thank you! I love this simple idea! I’m trying to think how to stabilize the pattern? Iron transparent stabilizer after it’s off the loom?

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's only when you offset the pattern and leave gaps that you lose a lot of stability. The only problem with an iron on stabiliser is that it would show through the gaps.

    Hi Kelly, I like both and lean towards the ripple zig zag. Where I'm located it might be easier to source and cut two or three layers of non corrugated pizza boxes and glue them together. I haven't seen thinner corrugated on products that would give me enough length.

    I like the zig-zag better. My question is, what happens to it when you take it off the loom? Do the open spaces stay put? I’d be tempted to either hemstitch around them or fill them using a tapestry needle. What does it look like after wet finishing?

    🤔 Yes, a Stabilizer would show. It would also be a lot of extra work stitching the yarn in place.

    how would you go from wavy to straight so say for instance you want a wavy top and bottom but plain or patterned middle bit? sorry complete newbie here! im that new i havent got a loom yet but really want one

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, that would be quite difficult. You could beat lighter with the wave shuttle as a progression until you could beat straight again. Or you could start beating straight on a wavy part and possibly fill the gaps in by needle weaving. It's not very straightforward, is it? Most of the time when you do wavy weaving, you do it for the whole piece.

  • @FrankReiter

    I'd like to see how you finish the ends when you take it off the loom.

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a few options for finishing - you can hemstitch while it's still on the loom or knot the ends once it's off the loom to leave a fringe. You can also hem by hand or with a sewing machine for no fringe.

    What do you do with the starting yarn that isn't part of the project?

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure if you're referring to the yarn that is tied on to the apron rod? If so, you can make a fringe, or cut and hem to finish the piece.

    • @aliciamcbride9766
      @aliciamcbride9766 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for replying. I was referring to the first few pieces of yarn used at the beginning. I've seen so many videos where they do that but I don't know what is done with it.

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aliciamcbride9766 It sounds like you're referring to the header - waste yarn that spaces the warp. It gets pulled out once the piece is off the loom. I don't use yarn as a header, I use 2 cardboard sticks, it's quick and easy 😊

    I like the zigzag better. The pattern is more regular, and I imagine the resulting fabric would be more stable as a result. In other words, it better resembles common fabric while still being new and different.
    The waves are cool. But they are so different that it doesn't fit the nature of the over and under process of weaving as well. Or so it seems to me upon my initial reaction. Thank you for sharing!!!
