As a Gen X actual KISS fan who never stopped listening and going to see metal, she's just too many degrees removed from anything like them. No one younger than 40 cares. It's all fashion to them. I don't have a horse in that race, honestly. Nothing means anything to them. To us, we were actually rebelling against religious conservative and even hippy culture. There's nothing rebellious about this.

@@tristambre632 That's the joke. There's nothing "rebel" about that. Robert is referencing a scene in Jojo Siwa's "rebellious" music video where shes with a woman on a boat and acting like it's such a rebellious thing. It's not. It's cringy the way she's trying to frame it.
I feel like the main difference between Jojo and Miley was back then, Miley’s transformation felt so much more genuine. Like looking back it’s a little cringe, she definitely went through a lot of phases before finding herself. (Not to mention her little cultural appropriation phase) But you could tell that she was genuinely trying to figure her brand out. Jojo just feels like her mom said “we’re gonna make you a bad girl! And bad girls wear black!” And Jojo just went with it. Also Miley was always a singer songwriter, Jojo is out of her depth.
Yeah for sure. I think you put it well. She was putting on different masks to see what fits, and definitely wanted it to be clear she was an adult even if she still didn't know what that meant (as none of us do in the beginning) but it didn't feel like a child's idea of WiLd aNd CrAzY. The only time that a kid usually gets to look "wild" and put on makeup is usually Halloween, so when your glow up just looks like a bad Halloween costume it doesn't feel genuine, it feels like you are still just a child rushing to be perceived as mature but with no idea of what that means.
Miley did the smart thing by taking advantage of a whole team to craft her image. But certainly besides that, I think she was in the process of actually growing up whereas Jojo just wants to be.
It happens in due course and it looks different for everyone but I don't think Jojo will even organically land on Great Value Gene Simmons as her genuine identity 😅

You’re so right Miley was organic, and who among us wasn’t a little lost and a little cringe at that age. Jojo unfortunately is a lot cringe and it’s very calculated, just not well calculated, I do hope she does get a chance to genuinely find herself

The JoJo makeup was giving me anxiety because it looked sticky like cookie frosting. Like it was spread on with a butter knife and if she smiled or moved her face muscles too much it would crackle all over and start to fall out in crumbs. *shudder*

Omg YES!!! I couldn't figure out what the texture looked like to me but this is exactly it, it looks gloopy and crusty all at the same time and just looks horrible. You'd think with all the money and the giant team of yes men behind her someone would have said it looks bad but I guess they're not paid to tell her that! 😂
I would be utterly embarrassed if I went through this phase of trying so hard to look "cool" and like "a rocker" and THIS is how it came out. Just like Robert said, it's extremely "try hard" and just makes her look like even more of an immature child than the Disney makeup she used to wear before. Looks like "I got into my mum's makeup bag and wanted to look cool and edgy for my friends" without having any of the know how or the personality to pull it off. She's insufferable. 😂😂😂

What’s crazy is that she actually looks more grown up in the top picture at 7:55, because she looks like a normal high school/ college aged girl rather than a costumed glittery rainbow caricature, her makeup is “normal”, her hair isn’t bleached to death, she isn’t smiling like her life depends on it

The biggest issue I had with her makeup is I saw an actual MUA doing it for her.. if it was her doing that to herself, it would have made more sense to me 😂. Your makeup is gorgeous as usual 🖤

I think JoJo should get a new stylist and makeup artist, because it seems she's still using someone who did her makeup when she was a child star. She does kind of have a baby face, and her rebranding just made her look like a kid trying to look edgy, but failing. I hope she sees this video, your look is gorgeous!
The baby face thing is why a lot of celebrities (allegedly) get cosmetic plastic surgery to get a more angular look to their face to age out of being viewed as a kid

So true! I know Make-up is art and it’s fun to play around with different styles, but I 100% think she would look incredible with a more soft core makeup style due to her rounder features. Her complexion would look lovely with softer tones as well. She could, if she wanted to, throw in a mature lip color or eye shadow style to “age it up” yet still have her makeup complement her softer features.

Every time I bring up that suspicious timing after the Rolling Stone article, someone screams at me that every child star is treated like this when they try to rebrand and I'm terrible for finding her annoying. Then the only other celebrity they can name as an example is Miley Cyrus.

The effect on the outer corner of your eyes is quite stunning. It looks like wings -- not standard eyeliner wings, but black wings made of feathers. Very nice, Robert. (My allergies have been brutal, too. I hope you feel better soon.)

Jojo Siwa’s rebrand reminds me of Jesy Nelson’s solo debut after leaving Little Mix. They were both jarring and weren’t needed.

i knew exactly this was the Hannah MonMiley treatment when i saw it. I wish they went a little less "KISS" and more edgy, gunge and mature. can still use goth/punk/alt looks and glitter to match the outfit but it still felt childish in all.

Remember she grew up in dance and doing dance recitals etc. The makeup is SO “dance recital rebel”. It’s like if dance costumes were makeup. Just tacky and overdone, but a definite aesthetic that is a thing. Don’t want to pretend I liked her look-it literally grossed me out for some reason-but it makes more sense when you remember the background she comes from.

Your reaction video on her failed re brand last April got me hooked on all of your videos! I didn't not know she even existed until all the "Jojo Siwa is a mess" content on TH-cam. I still don't listen or watch to whatever she puts out there, but I definitely listen to anything that pokes fun at her failed re brand. Morbid fascination 😂 Your video from April is my absolute favorite! I think I have watched it 10x and I still laugh! My favorite? Calling the re brand "delusional" and that her eyes looked like an evil crow took a shit on her face 😂😂

Honestly, I think the most "rebellious" look she could've done is to not wear makeup. She's been put into sequins and bows and glitter for all her life, the best way to grow up from that and show that you're different is to just not do anything. And as makeup is not only an expectation for women but especially so for popstars/celebrities, she is literally being a rebel. She seems happier without makeup in her "cool lesbian" outfits so idk.

Oooooh ! That's a look i wanna try ! But i'd add a bit of dark purple, red or even black at the center of the lower lip, with a very subtle line going down the middle ! (idk, it's how people sometimes colour their art and dolls. Kinda gives a moooore... creepy or sick vibe !) 🤩

I feel like this makeup isn't hitting *the* main point that i think JoJo is going for. I think she wants an iconic makeup style. Something that people see and say, "that's Jojo! I can tell by the shitty chin stripe!" or whatever. So a grungy eye look is too generic. She wants a signature look, think Lisa Left Eye Lopez, Kiss, David Bowie... Those makeup looks were synonymous with the artists. Jojo wants a trademark "dark and dangerous" look. Personally, i think she would be better served to change her hair for maximum impact, but what do i know, I'm not her audience or a fan.

The irregularities with the two eye shapes make my OCD twitch. My brain wants to find a logic in the shapes... especially with the eye floating in the middle...and isn't able to, adding a headache to the twitch. I then consider whether she is able to re-create the look if this is supposed to be a 'character'? Or was this a one and done special occasion look? And why is there an alien paw holding up her chin? I can't even start with the squiggles on the forehead. Conclusion -The makeup on JoJo Siwa is too painful for me...I don't want to look at it. Your look checked all the right boxes: bold, rebellious, dangerous, dramatic. 10 out of 10!
Love the look you created. Wanting to be taken seriously as an adult means being able to show restraint as opposed to the over-the-top explosion of black paint and glitter we saw from Jojo. Also, you’re looking especially handsome Robert 🖤🖤🖤.

I absolutely agree. Miley's adult phase was a little cringe but at least she was trying to figure herself out and she's doing way better, Jojo is trying too hard doing what Miley did and Jojo saying she's creating a new genre called "gay pop" when that has existed since the 70's.

As a MUA in training I also visibly cringed when I saw this look. And it was everywhere so I just kept cringing! I kind of want to recreate it as well, it’s not a bad idea but the execution just wasn’t great or flattering for her features, even. It just made her eyes look so beady and small. I’m curious, did she do this look herself or was it done by a professional? That’s the tea I wanna know 😂

When you swiped the mascara brush, it immediately gave fallen angel vibes. This look is MILES ahead of what they did. Love it. Red lips could have also have been a huge statement for feminism and women's rebellion over history that they missed.
