@@Mur4dMusic My harmony teacher in college had this on cassette in 1991 and I dubbed a copy and had it in safe keeping for years. I don’t know where HE got it as I’ve never seen it listed in the biographies or excerpted in the rehearsal archives. He used it for his Stravinsky classes. While dubbing in ‘1991, my double cassette recorder started eating my teacher’s tape so I had to smooth it out and rewind with a pencil!
In the 1890's Hans Richter came to St. Petersburg to conduct the orchestra, but needed someone to translate his German instructions. Little Igor S. was there to do the job. Of course when people hired Stravinsky, they often wanted to hear him conduct his foremost work. The problem was his conducting ability was limited, and this is one of his most difficult pieces to control. He even had issues with The Firebird. But he knows the style!
Indeed. My teacher was a Stravinsky fan like myself. I lent him the Tony Palmer Stravinsky biography (on 2 VHS tapes!) and he lent me this on cassette.
Thank you so much for posting this. Your work on this treasure is beautiful. I meant this would get more exposure in the trash of a bleak town. A shame. @@1918SMLE
Here we learn that S. wanted the Danse Sacrale at 106!! not 126 as printed in the score B&H 1947 new 67 edition!!! ...where the re are NOT sforzando+piano for trumpets/trombones. So...what score should I buy? Amsermet did pizzicato (the 3-note-chord of violins) vs. arco (separed violins) in Danse sacrale, then this difference disappeared forever....so what is the REAL score approved by the composer? My score is code number HPS 638 re-engraved 1967 but I doubt that this is the official version chosen by the composer! My score is 18cmx26 cm and the notes look too small, unaccaptable! I saw a score about half meter (height) but no idea where to find it, perhaps that is the good one! and here your hear the composer saying "not the score, on the SMALL score". PS: I would pay to be able to hear the whole rehearsal! yes the most difficult thing in this piece is to find the right volume balance between the different instruments (trumpets vs. horns....). PS2: "clarinets nicht versäumen!" hihihi
Pure gold. !
Thank You !!
September 1961 with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. He is doing the 1943 revision!
I didn’t know that Mr. Stravinsky spoke German! Of course during the rehearsal he mixed a little English in there, too.
Omg.. I can't believe you found and uploaded this! Thank u so much
