    You guys Awesome!! Really enjoyed your video. We did some of C&O but by segment. We cheated though staying in the hotel instead of camping.

      There is no cheating! If you got on a bike and pedaled a bit or longer, you are my cycling brother/sister!

    Good video you guys. You two should check into the Pine Creek Rail Trail in Central Pennsylvania. It's not nearly as long as your epic journey but as far as natural scenery and wild life goes it's mind blowing! It's shorter so easier on the knees, maybe I'll see you 2 there this Summer! I am hitting it in the 3rd week of July this year.

    This is a great bike touring video nicely captured and produced. Enjoyed watching it. 👍🙂

    That was EPIC and hilarious!!! Thanks for sharing your story. The C&O is on my bucket list and you've convinced me to just do that section and save the GAP for another trip. Glad you were able to do it. Excellent video and documentary.

      It's great to do both at the same time. Just do it after the Savage tunnel is open. Both trails can be done in 4-7 day depending on the miles you want to do. These guys wanted more of a party atmosphere not riding. If you want to do a party ride, do RAGBRAI.

    We're doing this as our first trip in September. Thanks for a video showing that regular people can make it on this trail -- that you don't need to be a super-beast rider, just be determined to succeed.

      A beautiful thing about this trip - pretty regular people CAN do it. I rode in a group of 6 with just 17 extra pounds so my fear that I would be the slowest (I was also the oldest) did not materialize - I was actually one of the fastest because others brought so much unecessary stuff!

    That was a fun video, a lot of great scenery along that route, would be nice to do it in spring with more sun and greenery. I would enjoy doing that ride, the only thing I would change is the meals, beer and some of that heavy food everyday would make me too lethargic to ride!

      Thank you! We definitely weren't winning any awards for nutrition along the way! I'd also like to check out in spring. It was a bit cold for our run and we definitely were bummed about missing the ride through the Savage tunnel.

    OMG this was great! I did the trip about 5 years ago. Did not camp though, used hostels and some cheap motels. I was so good to see the scenary again; I recognized nearly every stretch shown. You guys are great cinemaphotographers! Noticed that you took in some brews at VooDoo in Homestead, Pa outside of Pittsburgh, literally blocks from my home. My trip (early Sept) included a bad overnight storm that brought huge trees and brush down on the C&O, trees so big that we had to doubleteam to get our bikes over them. The narrow paved section along the river was covered with brush that we had to haul out to get through in the early part of the day. 60 mile days are pretty intense back to back to back. We did it in 6 with 70 miles being the longest day. Had enough gas left for a next day spin around the capital and then to the train startion for the ride home. My suggestions would have been SPD pedals and bike shoes - a tremendous gain in pedaling efficiency. Again THANKS for sharing this guys

    • @qotsafan2005
      @qotsafan2005  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate the suggestion and sharing your story as well! Sounds like an intense day post-storm! We hoped to spin around DC a bit on the last day and maybe even do the W&OD trail the day after, but with Tim's knees going out, we opted to wrap at the end of the towpath and get him some rest.

    • @blake3844
      @blake3844 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@qotsafan2005 Wow - the look on Tim's face closer to DC was hard to watch! Knee pain is hard to work around especially when pedaling. I hope he got some help with that. I've heard some say that pigeon toed is the result of bigger feet seeking more room in the womb! Couldn't tell if Tim sports bigger feet or not! Take those cameras out again Taylor - great job!

    • @qotsafan2005
      @qotsafan2005  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Small one at Boston: gaptrail.org/trail-info/trail-alerts
      The trail folks recommend shuttling it, but I've heard that if you are going through on Sunday, construction isn't usually going on along the trail that day. We saw a few bikers and hikers turn onto the closed section.
      Our largest detour was around the Big Savage Tunnel, but it's open for the season now.

    My brother and I are heading out mid May. Where did you get food for meals?

    • @qotsafan2005
      @qotsafan2005  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The trail is filled with spots to stop along the way, with a few sections of the C&O having some spaces between stops. We packed a few small things we carried in case we needed like snacks and some dehydrated breakfast items. Otherwise we stopped at Bloom Brew (pizza at food truck), a Martin's grocery store just off the trail as you come into Connellsville, a few gas stations like Sheetz where we stocked up on sandwiches we could pack for dinner, Albright's Pizza in Meyersdale, Lost Mountain BBQ in Cumberland, Buddylou's in Hancock MD, Blue Moon in Shepherdstown and Beans in the Belfry in Brunswick.
      You likely won't travel a full day without passing something, so we just always had enough for a meal or two packed along in case we needed to stop before our next planned destination. There are also some options in Ohiopyle that looked good as well as Confluence, but we made the mistake of waiting until Confluence because we were out of the primary season and restaurants there were closed.

    • @mtmankowski9114
      @mtmankowski9114 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1
