I have to agree with you on the knowledge front. It may not be something you're interested in but learning a bit may be beneficial. I do IT primarily and sometimes the most random things imaginable may be the best analogy to use to describe a situation when someone isnt getting it. I have hundreds of clients in real estate and dabbling into it's workings has sort of made sense. I got into a brief stint with car upgrades/repairs and knowing it head to toe creates the same scenario. I never had an interest in drones until a Jayztwocents video...now it's a hobby. I really thought my EXTREME fear of heights would be a road block so I never even looked at it until then at which point I thought maybe this can help. It did not but flying 393 feet upward on a display just works. I shouldn't be off roading or recoving vehicles yet I grew up with it with the wrong gear and still love seeing it happen. I'm never going to be an electrician but it's handy to know how/why. Theres so many scenarios where I was ignorant and could of just died or came close to. High voltage scares me as much as it should have last time I got decently electrocuted. All cool stuff and it makes perfect sense to just learn of everything you can even if it will never apply. You might just find that one scenario where that knowledge will help you or someone else and that's what's really important.
I never soldered or repaied electronics. But I love to watch you do it. I especially love your mindset about life in general, like what you say at 4:58
I’m blown away by your technical and presentation skills. I enjoyed your commentary about acquiring knowledge. I agree with you completely. Thank you for sharing, I learned so much from you. Liz
As a new subscriber I have watched a dozen or so of this guy's videos. In the course of morning today a thought crossed my mind that the next video of his that I watch I will leave a comment that I like how he does not waste time in his videos. First up tonight was this video and he mentions in it that he does not waste time in his videos. That got me thinking that he saved me the time of leaving a compliment but I decided to leave this one anyway.
4:55 it's so true I'm a programmer (I design and write all kinds of programs, primarily CAD) And I don't have enough focus currently to commit to learning something new (because I take stuff very seriously) After accidentally watching one of your videos, I watched more and more, but couldn't put my finger on why I did The format is very straightforward, and there's always some insight, and it's extremely easy to follow, among other things that I value very much.
Alex, I've seen this type of SOT-23 step down converter on several older generation graphics cards. Almost certain for a secondary power like LEDs or fans. You may want to check that spare parts box too.
I made a variable linear power supply that I use to inject power past the regulators. Not energy efficient but does get something to power up. All you need to know is what the feedback is set for to set the linear power supply voltage. On the regulator you showed it's lowest voltage is 0.6V. Find the feedback pin for the regulator and put a voltmeter on it. Set the linear power supply to its lowest voltage and inject power. Increase the voltage until the feedback pin shows 0.6V. Another method is to find out what chips the regulator is powering. Look up the data sheet for those chips and see what their voltage is and set the linear to the same voltage.
Thank you for the video. I had the same issue with a hd from Toshiba :/ Bought it, copied data and no problem. After some weeks the HD gone bad like this one in that video. I was lucky that I had made several redundant copies. I would recommend everyone to always back up relevant data redundantly on several drives.
im your avid fan from the phillipines. .im also a cellphone and laptop technician. .i really love your videos. .i make sure everyday that i will not missed your uploads. .how i wish i had a microsoft you have. .its is realy good. .thank you and god bless you and your shop. .
About your comment for knowledge. Oh how right you are. I often say the day that 1 stops learning things is the day that they pass. My grandfather passed at 63. And even up to his final days. He was always learning things
your mother sounded like a really nice and caring person, awesome 🤗 By the way, I wanna know what chip that is. eagerly awaiting for part 2 of this video. Thank you.
"Any form of knowledge cannot hurt." My last year of high school I tried flunking myself to go back another year to do more of the things I wanted to do. Ever since then, I have tried to learn as much as I could. It has worked out for me considerably over the years, and could not agree more. Don't be a horse with blinders.
Looking forward to a follow up video. I for one look forward to the next video on your house hunting! I find them to be very informative. You are a good teacher. I learn a lot from your video's. Agree with you about one's mother. Greetings from Canada
Brother, I have been following your videos for a while, and you are really excellent and wonderful I have a comment on today's video, which is that zero resistance does not replace the fuse Because the zero resistance is sometimes present to compensate for a jump, because the robot cannot weld a wire, so they compensate it with zero resistance, and sometimes it is set to erase the interference Thanks...
Thought the Same.... Did so on an faulty PLC power supply dc converter. Powered it externally with a 5V Supply until the new Power supply arrived 👌🙋♂️
Watching from London in the UK and can’t wait for the next video to appear! You’re extremely knowledgable and I’ve learnt so much from you. Just wanted to ask you, where is your accent from?
I'll look forward to the conclusion of this case. I'm wondering if the preamps might have been damaged and if so, will you attempt a headstack replacement Alex? I enjoy your videos, keep it up.
It's never wised to advise anyone to open the hard drive without a proper HEPA clean laminar flow cabinet, any contamination can compromise the data, besides, to do a head stack replacement you need the proper head comb tool.
I hope to be able to get some tools from your site soon. I am trying to bring some money doing repairs and building computers for the market. Its my sole income right now and I hope to make it as far as you have. I think your a grate person and I love your videos. I bought tools to do repairs for the public at the start of 2022. I did not get the best brands and not the best tools but they are keeping me afloat right now. Hope to get a lot of the tools you have. I value your opinion and the tools you recommend. I wish I would have went to your site from get go.
Alex it is probably a buck converter! It is beside a choke!Provides power to something! The same happened to me when I repaired a TV main board!Buck converter failure! Took SD ram with it!
I think i have seen those voltage regulators on ps4 boards, i could be wring but definitely looks familiar! Love the videos, always learn something watching you!
Love the knowledge from your videos, the resistor that you place as a fuse how long would it last or its just to quickly get data and forget drive, would it be worth it to purchase the SMD fuses, starting my hand in circuit repair, any guidence is appreciated, in advance, thanks. Thanks for the knowledge🙂
I like the house hunting videos. The house with the large yard on the flag lot would be my number one right now. Insides can be updated, but if you have no land, what is that?
It would be cool if there would be some image recognition software that would scan donor boards and recognize the chip imprints and footprint to put them into a database. Or it exists? I mean production lines use that already for pick and place machines and quality control, it would just be a different use case and less standardized cameras.
Sir, just for curiosity sake, since you are working with repair for a very long time, do you need to discharge your hands from static charges or are components able to withstand static charges on their own?
Cheapest/quickest way to repair/recover data might be to buy a new or second hand complete identical drive and swap mother board over. Then swap back, copy recovered data to new drive, and return that to customer ?
Good work bro! Does this apply to 2.5 inch drives in inside laptop? I have a dell e5450 that is having the same issue with not getting power and not booting up. I took the drive out and hooked it up to and ide to usb adapter and got no power. Do they sell motherboards for these?
I've finally found your channel after months of searching. Question I receive a phone from my dad a few weeks ago and he said that he went to an Apple-certified tech to get a battery replacement. After he received his phone it shows that it's not a genuine part. I've opened it up myself and the battery shows that it's a genuine apple battery. How would I go about this?
Overheating can make a hard drive go down as well. if its from a laptop, may want the owner to clean the fans, check heatsinks and heat fins. I cleaned out a laptop some months back and now running faster and cooler due to this.
Resting a laptop on a soft surface, like mattress or pillow, can cause it to overheat and choke on its own hot air as well. This happens because the vents get blocked.
Hdd regenerator. Doesn't format too well, bad sectors are remaining. Much better to buy a new one, instead. I had a fuse problem w a 40 Gb Toshiba drive, soldering solved my problem. Tricky fuses, I soldered a Nokia car charger's fuse, and the charger became too hot, then failed.

Hello from 9th dimension, I have all of your capacitors and resistors...
🤣
lol
Hahaha nice😁
Ey man, give them back!

I didn't notice before how much I appreciate you don't waste time and head to the repair immediately until you mentioned now.

Never do I throw away parts for this very reason but you had a good stash that's rare not to find one.
I've lost count of the amount of times I've thrown something away a week before I've finally needed it 🤦🤣
About your comment for knowledge. Oh how right you are.

I received my order yesterday. Thank you for the quick shipping 🙏👍🙏👍
I love all your videos. for the record I love the house hunting ones so much. as a guy in the UK I find it fascinating. please dont stop doing them.
your mother sounded like a really nice and caring person, awesome 🤗 By the way, I wanna know what chip that is. eagerly awaiting for part 2 of this video. Thank you.
It’s a step down converter
I am a huge fan of you and always willing to help!Greetings from Greece!

03:47 best part of the video
5:58 I feel like I heard this saying before. I think it was from Mufti Menk. I can't remember though.
Looking forward to a follow up video.

Unless You're simply trying to get a drive functional for data recovery and then I say "0" ohm resistor absolutely replaces a fuse..🤣
how would a zero resistance fuse eliminate interference?
that's the best microscope that I have seen 100 times better than the other one you used. much clear and better definition.
Another solution could be to connect an external power supply to the output pin of the faulty converter.
Thought the Same....
Did so on an faulty PLC power supply dc converter.
Powered it externally with a 5V Supply until the new Power supply arrived 👌🙋♂️
Very informative and as always am impressed with your soldering skills. Love the scope and light. Def easier to see/read
Man i love fuses...so simple yet so useful and life savers.
Tnx Alex for video and i love Sunday house hunting. Greating from Germany 😊

Can you please replace the front camera with a better one? The microscope image is great but your front camera is not so good.
I'd love to know what databases you use to access information on components.
Would love to see how you get to fix it. Will be waiting for the next video ☺️

Very good video. I hope you can fix it and show us a second part video of that harddrive. Thank you for your explainings, greets
Nice. I hope you'll get that component and make a followup video.
Yes I am amazed As well on how is this scope being like that detailed, so amazing
It’s true you said that before and it’s true safety first ❤
👌👌👌👍nice video and for having respect and love towards your mother.
2 thumbs up for Alex' mom!
I like your new anti glare light
Alex, I'm going to give you a little 💩... What rating on that fuse? 20A? lol... Great work as always!
Any knowledge is good knowledge. Amen, brother.
Being exposed knowledge about knowledge is the best kind of knowledge. Be well and thanks for what you do. :)
You're a amazing teacher 💚
Bonjour de France !
Ton travail est vraiment méticuleux et machallah qu'elle maîtrise.
Oui il est très bon. Regarde aussi Sorin de la chaîne Electronic repair school. Il est excellent.
Hello sir , always a Hugh fan and supporter of your work ! Always learn something new from you
I am here to learn life lessons! Great job man!!
Can we have a follow up for this problem?
I wish you do more hard drives fixing because alot of good hard-drives gone to Waste with important data and no one around to fix them in my country
Personally, House hunting is my favorite type of videos on this channel, after the Asus ROG laptop series of course😄
Where I come in Afrika , we call it "sweet mother" for always caring .
Sad conclusion could be that the voltage converter departed our realm because that big chip converted itself into an oven.
Let's hope that is not the case (if he ordered that part I mean).
Tkx for being honest
Don't listen to the haters, I love your house hunting videos
Alex it is probably a buck converter! It is beside a choke!Provides power to something! The same happened to me when I repaired a TV main board!Buck converter failure! Took SD ram with it!
teach my yoda. love your work and advise. knowledge is power
I got an 3T drive recently. I am scared now, these suggestions are signs that my drive might fail. Ugh why does this have to be so complicated
I think i have seen those voltage regulators on ps4 boards, i could be wring but definitely looks familiar! Love the videos, always learn something watching you!
It must be galling to see the part that requires replacing and not have one to hand. Bah! Boo! But that's life and your videos have it all.
I like your house hunting videos and i'm looking forward to the next one.

We want next part of this video.
Why not change the component with something lying around with similar specs? Love your videos mate!
Thank you for sharing knowledge that’s the main reason I’ll watch your videos thanks
Should move to Hollywood and than call the shop Hollywood fix where stars come to get it fixed lol
Knowledge is power
if it is only to extract the data you can feed that rail with the external power supply.
Good job mate 👍
your mother is a smart lady :)
the anti glare is really good
It would be cool if there would be some image recognition software that would scan donor boards and recognize the chip imprints and footprint to put them into a database. Or it exists? Amazing , keep up the good work !
When clean boards look like they have dirt on it you know it's a good microscope.
People, backup your stuff!!!!
Good job respect for you 😊😊👍👍💯💯💯
thank you
What website did you just reference to figure out what component that was that blew?
I really like the microscope, but unfortunately 600$ is way outside my budget, without shipping. Damm I really wish I had one

Not enough must also move firmware chip to new board.
@@mariushmedias Ah, OK, I thought everything would be on the board.
Came in for repair.
i am waiting sunday hunting house video sir
👍🏻 good luck
i liked the new camera its clear light is also good I think u have way much better setup than ever .. Masha allah allahoum barek
ROFL I commented before watching the video
any step down converter with the same number of ic pins should work (5 pins)
Hi man, where do you look for smd codes?
Is the anti glare light part of the microscope?
Good work bro! Does this apply to 2.5 inch drives in inside laptop? I have a dell e5450 that is having the same issue with not getting power and not booting up. I took the drive out and hooked it up to and ide to usb adapter and got no power. Do they sell motherboards for these?
If just customer needs data , you could jumper the mosfet
Nice
Do you know that you can test only the board that you deatached from the disk? It will be recognized as usb hdd but obviously you can't access it

If the repair side doesn't work out, you could always be a salesman 🤣
This makes me want to fix mine :(
I just get distracted too much.
