Bought mine in 2008. Carried it daily until 2019. Slipped out of my pocket and into the abyss of an Uber backseat one night. Fantastic knife. If you’ve got one, hold onto it tightly.
Benchmade offers lifetime no questions asked sharpening and fixing anything for free for life I live next door to the factory but they even paid to ship to my house 10mins away I own this same knife I have had it sharpened 3 times and rebuilt once all free
I bought mine just before my first deployment to Iraq of two, it has opened many MREs banding and cut loads of rope. Then as a civilian it has worked on a horse ranch cutting bailing twine and other things. Broke the spring along the way, sent it to benchmade for repairs and sharpening it is battle worn just like it…..
I may be "the new kid on the block" ( even tho I'm 52, LOL ) but your videos have quickly become my favorites. I really learn some neat things too. What a cool 'ole knife. You sure did a good job on it, as well as the video Rob. Thanks for sharing.
That is awesome. I don't mind overseas produced knives but there is just something about a Oregon City Benchmade. Im sending you two next Friday. Not in nearly the condition that one is in though. Some good news is I just received a 707 Sequel that has a great edge. The taper is a lot more gradual than previous abrupt edge offerings. I'll be in touch, great vid as always!
Nicely used like my mini reflex,,and took a good 5 yrs of heavy use bf the spring gave out. haven't put my auto Stryker thru the paces like my reflex. BM has good quality indeed
I have that exact knife in almost that same condition that was my EDC while in the military. I have cleaned the Iraqi sand out of the hinge so it will open with ease but the clip is bent much as described about this one. Need a good sharpening as well. Is this a service you offer?
I think I found my problem..... The spring I ordered from knifekits.com requires almost a quarter turn. I found a few pictures online and most required a 1/8 turn or less. I'm gonna call knifekits.com and ask about their springs because I have to put a crap load of tension on it to put it back together. And that tension is what is popping it out
When you put the coil spring back in place did you have any problems? I am putting a bemchmade auto back together right now and when I rotate the blade to put it back in place. One side of the spring pops up.
Actually, this one and other similar BM autos have always gone together really well for me. I wonder if your aluminum frame has a lot of wear in the area where the spring tab lies. If I remember correctly, I just set the spring into the handle slab, catch the blade side tab in the hole in the blade, then it only needs to rotate about 1/8 of a turn to be home, on the pivot and under tension in the open position. If I had one lying around I'd do a video, but I don't right now.
I'm getting one of these in on trade and I am seriously considering sending it to you for your sharpening and spa service. I think your prices are very reasonable for the quality of work demonstrated and services offered. I enjoy your videos very much. Keep up the good work.
You make it sound like it’s a combat used knife . No battle in that , just beat up . I’ve scene plenty of military designated automatic for marines to purchase before they deploy. This isn’t one of them .
@@kennymoss3111 That was a truly brilliant response, tactically speaking. When you tell a “joke,” especially a sarcastic one, and you’re the only one laughing, pretend you’re just way smarter than everybody else in the room, preferably in a condescending way. At that point everyone will know exactly how funny, and intelligent, you really are. Great job!

I appreciate the kind words, my friend! I'm glad what I do is helping you in this wonderful new hobby!
What a thing of beauty! Enjoyed hearing about Mel & the dagger design. The owner is going to absolutely love what you have done. Well done sir!

I really like the look of the aluminum handles/black blades when they get well worn like this.
I just found one new in the box in one of my drawers, love it and thinking about carrying it thanks for the video

You put some great edges on them

Awesome! I'll be looking forward to it :)
i ordered a new bahco saw this week
Cool indeed. I'm beginning to understand the hoopla about Benchmade more and more. It's kinda hard to kill one of those things.
It certainly has been hard to kill this one! There's something ultra-durable about the axis lock and aluminum handled BM's.
I have hammered mine through oil filters and used it as the wrench to remove them. For such a little knife it is tough as nails😮

Yes indeed! I was actually pretty impressed with how good a shape the internals were in this knife.

Just love that beat-to-heck oh-so-worn look. :)
I know :). The good news is that this thing is actually in great shape mechanically. All the crud and goo inside must have preserved it :)
8 years later how's it holding up

Nice overhaul job. I think your 940 opens just as fast or maybe even faster than that auto does.
Thanks, biguy! I think you're right :)
Do you know where i can get a replacement blade
Between this and the mini reflex 2, which one is better overall? Any opinions?

Thanks very much! I'll look forward to hearing from you.
how much would you say that this knife is worth? I have a chance to buy one for 20 to 30. is it worth it?
Absolutely.
I think knives (that are made to be used, and abused) look better when they show scars and years of use.
Nice old knife
I got the same mine is 3551

you wanna get rid of that Bm that's a nice knife
nice wear on her
You betcha!
So when exactly did Jesus give you that blade?😂
Maybe it’ll be funnier after you explain that joke to the rest of us… maybe.
If you don't get it you never will.

@@TheApostleP it's the most action your channel has received in 8 years 😂😂😂 congratulations 🔥🔥🔥
Nice knife though... thinking of getting one, seeing it can go through hell and keep on ticking 😈
Fake....
