I am in Corporate America and baby it gets hard some days. The work isn’t hard, but gaining and retaining that respect as a young black educated female in a predominantly white business…..can get on your NERVE at times.
But we are Elites. We get the job done in the classiest way possible.

Don't regret not pursing acting because you're acting with your social media content. I think it's important for the youth to hear your story. Your degree is funding your dreams and it gave you the knowledge you needed to market yourself.

I’m from Chicago as well and I got accepted to Spelman but being raised in a single parent home & other issues within my house hold I had to stay in state. Even with that I had went to NIU where I wanted to study fashion design but was told it wouldn’t make me any money so I went for business / corporate communication studies. That discouraged me because it was a family member but nevertheless , here I am currently in Grad school for business administration while working downtown in health care . I had to realize it’s not about the speed it’s always about the direction.
The transparency of this video. I live for it . Glad you were able to realize law really wasn’t for you. Love that your purpose is being confirmed through this journey. ♥️

I can absolutely relate to your journey to corporate America. I originally wanted to be a journalist but I allowed people to discourage me but saying there wasn’t a lot of money in it and being that I planned on living a luxurious life I decided against it. It took my a few more career changes before I ended up in HR but I will say that my love of writing and communications has done me very well here!

I'm in corporate America but I did not have a normal journey. I went to an early college high school and graduated with my high school diploma and associate's degree in liberal arts. Everyone around me had an idea of what I should do as far as what career path and degree but I didn't want to go to school when I had zero idea. My mom was like "You gotta figure out something cause you just can't do nothing." lol So I went into the Marine Corps. After I served for 2 years I worked at a call center for a year. I hated that job but then was blessed with an opportunity to work for Navy Federal Credit Union. I didn't have the background of most people they hired but they liked that I was in the military. I worked there for 3 years but was ready to move on. Through networking and making connections I made a friend that wanted to refer me and I'm now a business analyst for a 401k wholesaler.

This was a really good video 👏🏾 thank you for sharing your story cause people like me needed to hear it. I was a business management major in college. I didn’t really have a clue about what I wanted to do as far as a career. I started off as a psychology major and dance minor and landed in business because I came to the conclusion that I just didn’t desire to work for anyone. And now that it’s been a few years looking back it’s not that I didn’t desire to work for anyone but I lacked the proper guidance, k-12 school upbringing, and the whole mental maturity/capacity to know that I could be successful and actually love being in a corporate role. I’m 25 now, graduated in 2020 in the beginning of the pandemic and I just got into entry level corporate last year, hated it, and now in another entry level role with the same company this year. But I’m really hoping and praying for the guidance to be successful in whatever it is I choose to do and wherever this journey is taking me because I wanna be a successful, high paid, Corporate Baddie (which you should trademark btw) too 💁🏾‍♀️

OMG yours is my new favorite account. I stalked your insta til the beginning and now I am here. I am just in awe of the way you capture our generation at work and that the reasons behind that are not necessarily laziness, but in the interest of our mental and social health.
I wanted to be a professional choir singer, but my Mom made me go to college or I would have had to move out. At the time I was working at UDF making $6.50/hr. Still loving customer service, I have been a receptionist for 14yrs, and recently I accepted a dream position of medical dispatcher. So I still use my voice and I'm actually helping others, so I totally understand being deterred for my benefit. Take Care Man.

Great video! I attended cps my whole life but my schools were selective enrollment so I had a different experience in terms of my peers being on top of their academics. I attended depaul after high school thinking i wanted to do finance and quickly realized I didn’t like it. Ended up managing a footwork dance group and we blew up. 106 & park (yea im old lol), mtv, performing during bulls games, etc. Found out columbia offered talent management as a major so I transferred there. My family dogged me out for not sticking it out at depaul. I went on to get my mba and an ms in entrepreneurship & innovation and now I work at live nation in chicago as a sr business analyst and ive never been happier in my life 🤗

I loved watching this and knowing someone has had a similar experience to myself! I also work in corporate America however never thought to see myself here at 22 years old. I am also a creative and wanted to go to college for the arts however because I went to public school and typically excelled everyone convinced me that I was too smart to waste my time in the arts if I really had intentions on living the wealthy lifestyle I envisioned for myself. So I talked myself into going to school for business and honestly I have no regrets. I don’t see myself in corporate America very long because it does not align with my aspirations but I will give it my full attention for the time being and see where it takes me.

aw man, that’s an inspiring story. I completely resonate with shifting gears and applying a course of action that fit circumstances. I have a similar story, going to high school in Chicago with ambitions of attending DePaul University for film, but I always had a mind for business. It’s helped & hindered me navigating the business world without a college degree, because my business experience has been all trial & error, with companies of my own. You have to wear all the hats, design, marketing, financing, etc., but it’s a very invigorating experience knowing that with enough stride & intention you can build an “Amazon” or “Kylie Cosmetics” of your own. I’m 26, and you’re right we do have a long full life ahead of us and I see amazing things on the horizon.

Your story is so similar to mine. Also from the black chicago suburbs (country club hills) where these kids obsess over college. went to college for marketing after doing marketing competitions in highschool and now i am studying marketing and business analytics. i really don’t know how much i will love going into cooperate america, but it’s a good financial decision for sure.

You are such an inspiration! I graduated from college August 2021 and started my first job at a big four accounting firm in September last year. In summary I hate it. Similar to you, I am a young 22 year old, Black, queer female. I've spent more time trying to create change for black people in the firm than my actual work because I am not passionate about it. Gosh we have so much in common, I too was sucked in to what other people thought would be good for me, being at the top of my class, on the top school scholarship & receiving internships from big four accounting firms since I was a freshman in college. I've always been into the performing arts as a child & said I wanted to be an A&R when I was in high school. Of course within that time not having too many mentors I let people sway my thinking. While this path has been financially rewarding, I've gone back to my passion for music as a guitarist, songwriter and singer- for the sake of sanity & purpose fulfillment! I have NO IDEA how I'm going to get out of corporate America, but your story sure has inspired me because I felt so alone and stuck, as it's hard to focus on your passions when you have the demands of corporate America. I've been setting boundaries and planning my exit. Hopefully we'll cross paths somewhere in the entertainment industry!
