Whales communicate each other using sound waves or certain hertz, but researchers had discovered a very unique whale that is quite an anomaly since it's born with 52 hertz, meaning it's hertz is too high for other whales to hear.
So no matter how much the 52 hertz whale communicate it cannot be heard by other whales, thus making it "The World's Loneliest Whale"
The word "Alien" also aren't about galaxy creatures, it's just a word used to describe something or someone that is foreign or different. In short, we humans refers creatures we can't understand as "aliens".
      Hence "Whalien 52"
BTS uses that as a metaphor to describe themselves.
Cause deep knowledge, logical thinking, symbolism & deep research is required to even begin to understand them or their songs.
Even if they speak English, their way of writing songs is still hard to understand. 😅

      14:18 you're right 😂
15:15 yep the high pitch sound is the different (alien) whale sound, that's completely different from other whales

You're missing one key piece of information. You're right about whales having a fairly low frequency when they sing but there is one exception. There is literally one and only one whale that sings at a much higher level than any other whale in the oceans. Specifically, at 52 hertz. Because the whale sings at such a higher level, it was thought that it couldn't communicate with any other whale. The whale has been called the loneliest whale in the world. And the high pitched singing throughout the song does have a conceptual purpose. It's to illustrate the difference between the hertz of a normal whale and the 52 hertz whale. Considering that you didn't know any of that, you really did a very good job with the song.

Just a small add-on: In Take Two they sing that the whale is lonely no more... In 2018, just as BTS was truly blowing up worldwide, the scientists found a second whale with the same frequency so neither they nor the whale are alone anymore. Even Mother Nature is an ARMY. 😁👍

@@imajinallthepurple They only heard the possible 2nd whale once. It hasn't been heard again since, so it's likely that there actually isn't a 2nd whale.

Wow thank you for this information! I totally had no idea about this sopranino whale! Kinda depressing but such an interesting concept to make a song about.

@@AmariLeone Yeah, they like to take things like that and turn them into songs. RM's 148 IQ probably has something to do with that. This song is how I learned about the whale. They also have a song about Pluto losing it's status as our 9th planet, from the point of view of Pluto. The name of the song is actually Pluto's new designation,/name: 134340

In addition to what have been said in the comments, the "alien" in Whalien here is in the context of being alienated. So the 52hertz whale is lonely and alienated; and is somehow reflective of how they felt and/or how they were treated within the industry at that time (or maybe even until now).

To reiterate what some others have said, there's a wikipedia page on the 52hertz whale which is a specific whale that was found to make sounds at a frequency that other whales can't hear, thus it was dubbed the loneliest creature on earth in an article. Those of us who don't feel understood by the people around us really love this song as it makes us feel heard. I believe this is when the purple whale became one of our symbols, because many of us feel the frustrations of screaming out but still not being heard.

Everyone was explaining about the 52 hertz whale. There is another part of this and where it began, Jin always called RM a whale because it seemed that RM was off in a world of his own because he was always off writing music and so Jin made a whale t-shirt for RM but he never used it so Jin started using it, many have seen him wearing it. Jin also drew a whale for Idol all these whales became a mount for the entire group. Due to this song a whale is often depicted as a form of transportation for BTS.

Blue 52 is the name given to a whale that communicates at 52Hz. Other whales frequencies are much lower so they are unable to communicate with Blue 52. Scientists think it could possibly be a hybrid which is why its tone is so unique. The words Whale and Alien are combined for the title as alien is an unknown thing from somewhere else that you don't know of.

Many comments already mentioned the song inspiration being the 52-hertz whale which has never been sighted, only heard through hydrophones. The lyrics talk about the feelings of loneliness and alienation that fame can sometimes bring. There's also hope in the lyrics. I agree that the synth sample can be removed and it doesn't change the song.

In 2015, BTS released Whalien 52 - a song about the loneliest whale in the world. The 52-hertz whale was assumed to be the only whale in the world that sang in 52 Hertz - a decibel much higher than any ordinary whale.
Whalien 52 is a perfect metaphor for BTS’ story - their story of how they rose, even when many thought differently. It is the story of how they waded between seas when the only thing they wanted to do was to perform. BTS spoke of their loneliness as artists and people. Feeling that comes with talking but never being heard, questioned but never understood.

The Area 51 reference was fire. And yeah, that's not the reference here. Although the idea that RM or Suga hasn't heard of it is probably slim if you think about how well read they are. 😎
But excellent deductive reasoning here all the way through. You're so much closer than you realize.

There is an actual whale that communicates at 52 hertz, but all other whales communicate at a different Hertz, so Whalien 52 can't find a mate hence the loneliness

There have been some stories a couple of years ago that they may have picked up another 52hz signal, but I don't think it has been confirmed by a reputable scientific source as yet. But perhaps the original whale has found a friend who also sings in the whale falsetto?

“Assume that I’m smart, and that I’m picking up on things.”
I have always found that to be a safe assumption while watching your videos. You catch things and understand things much faster and better than the vast majority of reactors.
A related tidbit: In the 90’s, a club at 404 Colorado Street in the “queer” area of downtown Austin TX was called Area 52. A place where us “alien folk” could gather, dance & commune. It was large, and had a classic club layout, with two levels, multiple bars, and a large outdoor area where you could actually have conversation. Many fun nights there.

This song is about a specific whale that calls at 52 hertz. Scientists cannot identify the species but have heard it calling from time to time over the last thirty years. So it has often been called the loneliest whale in the world. BTS/RM is using this to talk about why he got into music: wanting to communicate with people on a deeper and broader level, and how celebrity in certain ways can make that deep communication even harder. The people who are Armys seem to hear it and to respond. They also seem to be saying that no matter how isolated you feel out there, it is in our nature to keep calling. WE will always hope that someone will hear us and respond.
In addition, a couple years ago, scientists believe they heard another whale respond back within a similar frequency, so there may finally be more than one out there.

It would be super interesting if the whale was actually apart of a whole species of soprano whales that we had no idea about.....this is me coping with the super depressing story of the lonely whale lol

I think most people explained in great deal all about meaning of the title and whats behind this song... But yeah feeling of begin alienated is not that hard to get from lyrics about begin lonley and title is a clue too 😁.
It is such cool song and topic ahhh it is close to Army hearts... That is why we also love our purple whale so much!
So yeah in theory your con have meaning bc it is whale song that sings so high...
Did you reacted to "Love is not over" ? If not I recommend;) there ate two versions I recommend full leangh, but there is also versions tgat only vocal line is one.
