Well for me its quite incomprehensive and sad that he is so unpopular in Japan. I thought that since season 18/19 hes quite known in his motherland, and im shocked that many of Japanese people heard of him first time just now - when he won olympic medals.
Ski jumping in Japan isn't really that popular like for example in Poland, Slovenia,Germany or Austria so you shouldn't be surprised at all😉
You have to subscribe to a pay channel in order to view Mens Ski Jumping World Cup tournaments in Japan. So most Japanese people haven't watched him competing outside Olympics. I guess he didn't do well enough in Pyeonchang to gather a following. Odd though that there's coverage of the Women's Ski Jumping tournaments on normal channels.
