    I just did this hike yesterday. Grueling and amazing hike. I cannot believe you guys walked all the way from and back to the arboretum! That is insane! I was fortunate to have rented a 4WD jeep. So I started the hike at the dam. While hiking on the way back, while I was glad I did it, I swore I’d never do it again. Now, a day later, I’d probably do it again. 😆 You guys are crazy for hiking back at night! I’d never do that. Started from the dam at 0745 Was at Guardian falls by 0930. Got to the back wall about 1130-1145. Finished the hike at 1530.

    Have seen this area via helicopter and wondered how anyone could possibly hike into it. Mad skills boys. My hat is off to you.

      Haha thanks!!! It was CRAZY hard, especially because we had no idea where we were going or what we would have to climb to get there!

    Incredible video. I live down the toad from the parking lot to the blue hole. I have never made the time to go. This really inspired me to go

      Hey thanks Rob and Bert!! Yeah, to this day the blue hole has been one of the most insane adventures I've done and one of the most incredible places on Earth! Watch out for the 'quick sand' haha

    I have personally been all the way to the back wall. #1 you best be in incredible shape and start well before the sun comes up #2 You MUST have a 4WD vehicle and sometimes water crossings will prevent you from access #3 There are many trails that are used for hunting and WONT lead you to the back wall so make sure you stay as close to the river as possible. #4 Your entire body will be soaking wet and muddy within the first 1/2 mile and will remain that way the entire rest of the day. #5 there are many places where if you fall or make a mistake you WILL DIE #6 This is NOT a hike and requires you to be bent over on all 4’s frequently... #7 there are basic instructions in the “Kauai revealed” book but sometimes can be hard to follow, again stick close to the river and don’t be fooled by marked hunting trails #8 if you are moving at a very fast pace you can expect to make it up in 4-5 hours, but remember you have to go all the way back down AND drive out safely. #9 If you do get injured or stuck there will be no help for DAYS... there is no access via helicopter and the 4WD trail can get blocked by fallen trees or flooded rivers. #10 The hike WILL be the most adventurous thing you ever done in your life and is nothing like youve ever seen... with 3 thousand foot walls surrounding you it really makes you appreciate the vastness of nature. The Blue Hole is NOT a real destination and is NOT worth all the effort just to go there and turn back... The back wall IS however worth it and would a once in a lifetime experience. (Use any of these steps at your own risk, you most likely will be injured and be extremely fatigued... you may also have the best nights rest of your life following the adventure)

      Yeah that is true. We didn't drive-in at all, which made our hike extra long as well. Yeah, breaking an ankle on this hike would be borderline catastrophic. We did most of the return hike in pure darkness (with flashlights) which made it extra difficult and perilous. I also had a really heavy backpack full of camera gear and a weighted tripod in my hand as I hiked which made it extremely difficult. I really want to go back though and do it again!

    Kauai is one of those truly magical places where I don't have to do super crazy stuff like this in order to still have the time of my life, and yet when I see videos like this I find it so hard to not want to experience these adventures...

    I’m gonna go watch your full video now but wowww you started your hike all the way from the arboretum. Damn u crazy! I once got stuck hiking at night. Yeah we timed this hike so wrong omg it was a nightmare. LOL that will never happen to me again that’s for sure. We didn’t have lights like you did. So one guy booked it back to our Jeep as soon as it started getting dark. Then we all had to whistle to each other and follow the whistles blindly! Lmao while sticking to a dry river bed because the river stones reflected a teeny tiny bit that we could just make out where we were standing. Ahhhhlol I’ll never forget it! That’s wasn’t here tho. That was on Lana’i where there aren’t any rivers. Duuude there was a huge chance you couldn’t gotten hit by flash floods. Over here is famous for that. Glad you made it!

      wowww that sounds crazy !! haha yeah i know i was thinking about the flash flooding possibility the whole time, thank god that didnt happen lol!!! thanks for watching the video !! :)

    I’ve never been too far past the JP gate but there is a road that will take you to the gate and you can park at the gate area. Beyond that you’re on your own. Great video !

    Hey man, I love the video! The blue hole is a special place. It's been calling me back ever since I left.....I uploaded a video on my page on the hike as well. Love your content and I subscribed!

      @1lifeonearth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Max! It has actually been calling me back too. I think I should probably go back and film it again from a new perspective. there are areas of the hole i didnt get a chance to explore because darkness was moving in swiftly. I must go back!

    Only hike where I spent the following day in my bed. Crashed and burned face first into the stream bed three times. I about fell into the stream bed about 100 times. Pulled every muscle in my body trying to recover from the slippery lousy footing. Spotted one of those cliff faced waterfalls with no inlet above it !
    A view like no other.
    Started walking from the J. P. gate at 8:00 AM. Was back at the truck at 8:00 PM.

    • @1lifeonearth
      @1lifeonearth  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah i agree it was insanely hard lol !!! we started even further back, i think it took us a few hours just to get to the the JP gate, and by then we had already gone through 2 rivers and some quick sand lol. We returned late late into the darkness of night, and were wondering if we were gonna run into some wild boars too..

    is it 8 miles out and back? I'm traveling in Kauai soon and I wanna hike this trail.

    • @1lifeonearth
      @1lifeonearth  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@vasiliskarkalas it depends on where you start, if you start where we did, yeah it was basically the hardest single-day hike in the world, if you go through the crazy difficult way we did. We got lost and almost fell off a cliff to our death lol. I had a really heavy backpack and giant gimbal which made it more difficult though but still, I don't really remember how far it was but I can say it took from like dawn until 10 pm to do the whole thing

    That gravel road you walked along people usually drive on that Road to the top where the actual start of the hike is probably would’ve saved u a few hours need a 4x4 truck to make it tho

    Growing up on Kauai, we never had this "blue hole." People take credit for the names they give which are unfounded. The do what they want which is typical. Whatever.

    Lol. I haven't seen a title this clickbaity in a long time
    Running this route and even scrambling to Kawaikini from the blue hole are literally nothing compared to the actual hardest routes in the world. Ever heard of Puncak Jaya, Denali, Annapurna? Even Mount Blanc is harder than this

      Thats called mountaineering my dude. Blue Hole is hiking.
