    If you change the spot welded tin strips that goes from cells to cell.
    Change a couple from series to parallels
    You can drop the votes down from 24v to 18v and increase the A.H.

      I could, but when I looked at it well it didn’t seem worth it. Currently it still run the whole yard for being 10 years old. The inside is assembled in some over engineered case holding the cells. Soldered Rubin cables for BMS monitoring, and temp probes. And did I mention it’s 10 years old, I’m just waiting for the motor to die and get a new one. I’ll probably repurpose the cells at that point.
      Happy new year

    Good to know! I have both. The Ryobi is still working fine but if the battery dies, I can use my Rigid battery. I tried to get a spare Ryobi battery but the ones that have it, want crazy prices.

      Yea, unfortunately it looks like they stopped making this model and I think this is the last season for mine. The motor is making a nice wine noise, probably just the brushes but its sealed and I cant seem to locate another motor that will work with this unit.

      I dont think so since both the hyper and max ridgid batteries run 30 Amp 18650 cells. So either one should work.

    @Gadget Review Videos can you also charge the rigid 18v using the 24V Ryobi charger? As you are aware Ryobi doesn’t make their 24v batteries anymore, so I have a 24v weed eater with no battery (other one is showing defective) and hate to throw out a perfectly good Ryobi weed eater.

      Nope, I would not do that. The chargers do charge to a different voltage and the 24 Volt charger will damage the 18 Volt packs.

    is there an adapter for a 24v Ryobi tool? I have two 24v Ryobi tools; a tree saw, and a hedge trimmer...battery is not chargeable now since it's several yrs old. Looking for a less expensive and easier fix to this...so that's why I found your video. I'd go the adapter route, if you have one to recommend?

      Im not sure what way you are going. Are you looking to go from a ryobi to to using a ridget battery? My weed wacker is a 24V Ryobi, but its an older one and I think they changed the batteries to something else.
      You can always try sites like badaptor.com to see if you have other tool batteries that would work with the Ryobi using an adapter.

      Ryobi stopped making the 24V packa a while ago. I was looking to order a motor for mine figuring its had 10+ years of abuse and couldn't find one.
      You can try this site and enter your model number for the trimmer, but if they dont have it then you are looking at used parts and might be easier to get another one.

      I was using the 4Ah battery in this test. But the 2Ah and 4Ah put out the same power using the same cells. The 4Ah only has longer capacity and run time. The only Ridgid battery I found that put out more power was the bluetooth 3Ah they used to make but they discontinued that battery.

    I have a 24v ryobi trimmer I picked up for 15 dollars. Well it’s a hedge trimmer and it works as long as I do that trick with popping it on the charger and back off, 1,2 times and the battery is back to working on its own 24v trimmer tool but as soon as I let go the trimmer isn’t able to start again, I have to jump the battery again with the charger. Any ideas what could be wrong? It’s using its own tool. And I held the trigger of the trimmer for 10 minutes and it worked fine but I let go and she dies,I do a battery jump and she is working again till I let go of the trigger. Any ideas? Lol

    • @GadgetReviewVideos
      @GadgetReviewVideos  ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems the battery is hitting an overload status and causing the safety part to kick and and disable it. Putting it back on the charger does reset that circuit. When motors stop, especially if they are designed to stop like and electric brake (or a short pulse of reverse polarity) this could be causing the extra load on the battery pack. If you have a bad cell that dips from that load under a safe voltage in the pack, the battery will detect this as a fault and shut it down.
      You can try to slowly back off the trigger if it’s a variable speed one and wind the motor down slow so it wont generate that bigger load and see if the battery stays on. Still you may notice the same issue if your trimming something with a a lot of parts or thicker branches that will cause extra load on the battery also. In the end it sounds like a cell in the battery that is not happy and hits a low voltage when its under a heavier load.
      Since you bought it used also I wonder if the battery that came with it is the same one it was originally released with. Some one could have paired a weaker battery with it just to sell it? Still in the end its a sad battery and you might need to get a new one.
      I hope this helps,
      Scott

      It’s the Fluke 289, and I love it. Ive had problems. I trust it with high voltage and for being 5 years old its still as accurate as my bench meter. I bought it for the logging and resolution, i’m not disappointed like some of the other logging meters I have bought. The 289 might not log wirelessly, but I got the kit when it was on sale so I have the cable to pull the logs from it. I would defiantly recommend the magnet, for a big meter like this it hold it strongly and secure. th-cam.com/video/CUmbSlDm9Lc/w-d-xo.html

      These packs are very different, most tool batteries advertise the nominal voltage of the cells in a specific configuration. But some market the battery pack at the full charge voltage of the cells hoping people will buy the higher voltage pack like in some older kobalt packs I tore down years ago.I dont know if kobalt still does this.
      Ridgid is just over 21 volts fully charged, it looks like they only charge the cells to 4.1 instead of 4.2
      The ridgid battery is 18 volts nominal in a 5S2P battery cell configuration. So it has 5 cells in series and each cell contains 2 battery’s in parallel for a total of 10 cells. Each parallel cells are at the same voltage rated for 3.6 volts nominal for a total of 18 volts. (Notes: Some cells are rated for 3.7 and even 3.8 nominal. It depends on the cells) At a full charge of 4.2 volts by 5 it would be 21 volts maximum for the ridgid pack.
      I think the cell configuration of the Royobi was a 6 cell pack (6S2P) and they only charged each pair of cells to 4.0 volts instead of the 4.2 volts the cells are capable of. Royobi doesn’t make this pack anymore, but when they did market the pack they advertised the max voltage on how they chargers the cells and not the nominal voltage of the battery pack.
      Side Note: Under charging the cell even 0.1 volt will prolong the lifetime of the cells.

      Not quite. 24V is one extra cell compared to 18V. 18V nominal and 20V max are the same.

  • @cbflazaro
    @cbflazaro ปีที่แล้ว

    Most cordless "24v"sruff is in fact 18v nominal..
    They just use the 18v 100% charged voltage (24v) to try and pretend their batteries or system is higher voltage. As soon as that batteries goes from 100% to 90 something %, you're down to 19v.

    • @GadgetReviewVideos
      @GadgetReviewVideos  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comment. I think you’re confusing the 5 cells packs (usually 18V) with the 6 cell packs. The 18V systems were only using 5 cells at a nominal voltage rating of 3.6V although some cells are nominal at 3.7V.
      For the 24V rated ones they are actual 25.2V fulling charged at 4.2V per cell but those use 6 cells and not 5 cells..So the nominal voltage for the marketing rated 24V packs is usually 21.6V to 22.2V, not 18V. But the honest packs are sold stating 22V (round up or down) and then the others advertise it with the full charge on the cells at 4.2V, but again 4.2V X 6 cells is 25.2V so either they market it under rated at full charge or 25V or they are only charging each cell to 4V and not 4.2 so they last longer. Either way it’s all mostly marketing and whether they use nominal or full charge voltage for the marketing technically neither is a lie.

      @@GadgetReviewVideos li-ion is 3.65/3.6 nominal. All cordless tools are li-ion.
      All 24v stuff I see, are 18v nominal.

    What cells are in the hp+ and hyper and octane?

    • @GadgetReviewVideos
      @GadgetReviewVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hp+ and hyper both have 18560 li-ion sanyo (panasonic) cells , I dont recall the specific cells models off the top of my head. The Octane ( I just bought one recently) are using a li-ion 21700 cells and most likely made by either Samsung, LG, Panasonic or Sony. I did not tear down the Octane all the way since the cells are encased in a shell and I did not have the correct nickle to spot weld it back together if I had tore it all the way down.
