  • Here's why the once-popular History Channel show, "Top Gear USA" officially ended. You WON'T believe what happened behind the scenes! The original BBC show was actually going to have an American version much sooner but due to mysterious reasons it never aired until the third pilot "Top Gear USA" was picked up by the History Channel and ran for 6 seasons. This video will expose why the show may have ended abruptly.

When Top Gear with Adam, Rutt and Tanner stopped being like the British show and took on it's own personality it was one of my favorite shows, the chemistry and the antics made the show a must see, the show will never be the same without Mother Trucker, the Bearded Lady and Tiny Dancer.

I thought the TGUSA was at its best when they were doing USA things. When they simply copied things done by TGUK the disparity was obvious.
Also, US fans likely didn’t see early TGUK episodes when Jeremy, James and Richard were new one to another and hadn’t developed their chemistry.

Say it with me: "Chemistry made Top Gear work". The chemistry has been missing from every other combo out there. Clarkson, Hammond and May are so different, but they play so well off each other that it drew you in because you felt like you were getting to hang out with them on their adventures. The new new Top Gear America feels... I'll give it a fair shake because I like the cast, but if the chemistry does not pan out, it's another miss.

The original top gear was meant to be a car program, but eventually the top gear we know and love ended being Jeremy, James and Richard. It was inevitable that it wasn't going to be the same after they left, and that's why the grand tour feels more like top gear (at least for me) than the actual top gear, because the spirit of the top gear we love is and always will be the chemistry between those three crazy blokes.

What really killed top gear in the U.S., was cutting it down to 40 minutes, with 20 minutes of commercials. They removed much of the interesting parts of the show, and filled it with garbage. As all cable channels are now filling their shows with commercials even though we're already paying to watch, cable TV is pretty much junk at this point.

I know a lot of people are going to and already have mentioned that top gear wasn’t and isn’t the same without the trio that is; Jeremy Clarkson, James May & Richard Hammond. But what people often forget or overlook is the fact that top gear was around decades before the trio was created, and the show could most likely still be around for many years to come. I’m also just going to say, if you are yet to watch an episode of pre 2000’s top gear, I do employ you too, as the show was just as equally factual and entertaining as when the Famous trio lead the series’ on for the years that followed.

the US version had a slow start, but eventually pick up speed, but i did find that a lot of the UK version's challenges were reused, especially the Beater Boot Camp episode of the USA version which essentially is a carbon copy of the British Leyland Challenge. both episodes featured vintage cars from a then-large well-known corporation (GM in the US' case); both episodes feature challenges of a handbrake test on a 20% incline, a ride quality test by driving on a cobblestone road with a colander full of eggs strapped over their heads (points lost for every ounce of egg lost, as well as trim pieces that fell off) and lastly a water-proof test to see which car can retain the most water while doing a lap on a track.
