  • In Collier County, Florida on the western edge of the Everglades, plume hunting, clear-cutting of ancient cypress trees, development of the "world's largest subdivision" and the "world's largest supersonic jetport" near Everglades National Park, inspired a groundswell of grassroots efforts to protect the vanishing wet wilderness.
The sunshine state has a rich and colorful history. For hundreds of years the state has attracted dreamers, opportunists, inventors and fortune-seekers. WGCU's Untold Stories aims to preserve the history of Southwest Florida communities.

Great documentary. It must be seen by everybody living or planning to live in Florida.
Had I known these facts I would have considered moving somewhere else for the sake of the protection of this wonder of the world.

I hope all their restoration plans come to fruition.....and in MY lifetime. I am 78 so maybe within 20 years.

It is supposed to finish in 2030 but who knows since this is a kind of experiment. I definitely hope you won’t take much longer.

the preserves are vital, what makes Collier expensive is that everyone owns a massive suburban home, maybe if the county starts building tall instead of wide there'll be more housing units and lower prices as a result
