    Moved into a house with a kenmore 51572200 refrigerator. The plastice water line in the back sprung a leak and water dripped/sprayed behind refrigerator and eventually down to basement. Turned off water from house to refrigerator to stop leak. Kept water off as I don't use the ice/door water. No water came out of the door dispenser since the water was off.
    Then today, months after the leakage, water spraying/leaking again from hose, even though water is turned off. The wall behind the refrigerator had a lot of water, so it seems like it sprayed with some pressure.
    How can this happen with the water turned off to the refrigerator? Still no water from the door, so water is turned off. Away from this, the refrigerator works fine. May have to junk, but why the water now, and where is it coming from????

      Maybe the fridge waterline shutoff valve is leaking or not shutting off completely.

    I have replaced the valve, icemaker and icemaker fan. I can get water from the door but no ice. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

      Fortunately for us, our ice maker worked once I replaced the valve. I haven't had any experience with the ice-maker not working. Maybe the line that feeds the ice-maker is frozen and plugged with a piece of ice?

    My Kenmore has only an icemaker--no in-door water. (Didn't want that.) However, this part is the one Kenmore says I need. I'm worried that water will shoot out the extra holes.

    • @trishjaggers
      @trishjaggers 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And I do know that is the issue. It was the issue all along, but the repair person got paid more for putting in an icemaker. :(

      I don't think water will run out the extra holes. I believe this part has two separate valves, one for water and one for ice. If there is no wiring for door water my guess would be that the second valve will never be actuated so water won't pass through it. I would take a pic or two of the old one before you remove it and make sure the new one looks the same. Then make sure you connect the new one just like the pics of the old one and I would say you should be good. At least this is how I would do it if it were mine. I wish you the best with your project.

    I get water in fridge to fill glass but no water to ice maker. Can that relay that opens for water to ice maker be bad?

    What was the symptom? I suspect the solenoid failing would be more likely a problem, but if it was just a leak, probably the gasket.

    My fridge can make ice but doesnt dispense water at the door...

    • @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10

      The fridge I replaced this water valve in has three valves. One to let the water flow to the filter. Then two separate valves, one controls the ice maker and the other controls the water dispenser in the door. Yours sounds like it's the same. I would guess the valve that sends water to your door dispenser is probably faulty. Replacing the water valves as I did in this video th-cam.com/video/WxIF0HOJ_AM/w-d-xo.html will probably fix your problem. (just a guess, I'm not an expert)

      That's the same situation with my refrigerator. The new valve solved it in my situation. I hope it works for yours too!

    It'd be nice if someone sold the gasket.

    Another dumb college-boy/girl-engineering experience! You'd think they'd make that gasket out of nylon or silicone -- something that wouldn't deteriorate that severely! How did anyone figure that cheap rubber moving up & down that much would last, (of course, the cost-per-unit by using that material helped their profit margin, for sure!!)

    • @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
      @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That gasket could definitely be made from a more appropriate material. Unfortunately they don't make things to last these days. They want us to "buy, use, throw away and buy again". I will give credit where credit is due, this fridge is 10 years old but I just acquired it. I don't know how many years it hasn't been working. We'll see how many more years it lasts. 😄

      How long did it last? They normally last 10-15 yrs. early wear isn’t from the manufacturers fault, that’s the city waters fault. What are they putting in the water? That’s a little further than your college boy learning. 😉
