- How Cobra Kai Season 6 Ruined Kenny

After watching Season 6 and even rewatching season 4 and 5, I just now only begin to realize how bad the writers massacred my goat Kenny. John count your god damn days because WHAT were you thinking for giving Kenny a brown belt instead of a spot for the Sekkai Tekkai. Before I even start ranting, let me breakdown where Kenny was before this season. Kenny was first introduced as this nice kid who really meant no harm to anyone, which as we know in any show with drama, this is bully material #1. And who better to use this material than the son of Daniel Larusso. Yeah, the karate kid's son is now bullying kids. This eventually leads into him deciding to join cobra kai in order to gain some control in his life, and he’d find none other than Robby, who not only went to juvie with his brother, but even applied the same mentality Kenny is now applying but back in juvie. Kenny would channel all this anger and convert it into strength, leading into him gaining confidence along with some cool friends. But due to being in the middle of a karate war, even being affiliated with the dojo puts a target on his back, and this kinda shifts Hawk back into a bully role. This would push Robby and Hawks rivalry in this season, with Kenny also getting some type of comeback with shaving Hawks head, along with Kenny getting the jump on Anthony in the library. So far, Cobra Kai has been the one consistently good thing in his life, which unfortunately means it’s very likely for him to be steered down the wrong path, which unfortunately is the case. All this anger and rage he’d been building up would start to control him, leading into him lashing out in the middle of the All Valley against Lapusso, showing that Kenny has changed for the worse. He’d say Anthony’s only beginning to feel a world of pain, before then cheering for Robby to defeat Hawk and show no mercy. This is what ultimately keeps Robby from getting the point, as he’s tired of letting hate consume his life, and he doesn’t want that for Kenny. With that said, Robby would leave Cobra Kai and try to get Kenny to also do the same thing, as he doesn’t want him to get brainwashed. But due to Robby leaving so suddenly, especially after their all valley win, Kenny believes Robby is betraying him. Which I mean he has every right to, he was the one encouraging Kenny to join and now all of a sudden he wants to leave? Kenny being in Cobra Kai sees this as a weakness, and with Robby gone, Cobra Kai needs a new power house. Which leads into none other than Terry Silver himself taking him under his wing, and even teaching him the same method of fighting he taught Daniel. Which as we know from Karate Kid 3, this resulted in Kenny becoming more agro, leading into him literally taking Hawks breath away, even when they were doing a prep match that Hawk wasn’t going all out in. Even when Silver was exposed and Robby was holding Kenny’s fists begging him to stop, bro did not wanna hear any of it, and would use the silver bullet on Robby. We’d see Kenny hesitating after this, but of course Miguel would come in to humble him before Kenny could do anything else. After this, Cobra Kai is seemingly destroyed, with the old students either moving into Miyagi Do, or like Kenny, just staying on their own. Kenny even after Silver's defeat, still was holding onto all this aggression and didn’t really know what to do with himself. Which is why even when Shawn comes back, Kenny wouldn’t even see eye to eye with his own brother due to letting cobra kai take over his mind. It was used as a way to be stronger, but now it’s ultimately changed him into a man he doesn’t want to become. Similarly to Robby, he’d come to this realization and share how he feels to the one part of his family that’s still there, leading to him forgiving himself for everything. After finally redeeming himself for his past actions and not letting the past define him, Kenny is shaping up to be a goat in season 6 and I can’t wait for him to prove himself to the world in the Sekkai Tekkai- wait he doesn’t make it? Now a lot of people are saying because of what went down, Kreese might turn to Kenny and get him on his team, which I can definitely see being the case, especially if he snaps on Lapusso in the tourney and Daniel or Johnny end up yelling at bro. Or it doesn’t even have to be like that, maybe just Kenny wanting to win and willing to go this far is something Robby understands, but he too also wants this badly. This could lead into a really cool final fight between the two, giving us the ultimate student vs mentor matchup. I really hope they just give him something more than “I forgive you Devon :)” like if bro doesn’t get to fight after this then Kenny is just officially sorry.

Yea Daniel controlling asf I slick do like him in season 4-5 bc he was beefing with Terry and it was bringing his cobra Kai side out

Season 1 and 2 was peak cobra Kai
I think s5 was Daniel at his absolute peak because he not only perfected his Miyagi Do by adding offensive techniques to it, he combined it with Cobra Kai and the quicksilver method. And beyond that him and Johnny had the best relationship of any of the seasons. There was next to no dramas and for that they were like an unstoppable train, wrecking Terry's shit in. Season 6 just broke all that, made half the cast hate each other again for stupid shit and now if Kenny joins Cobra Kai again, I dont know how Miyagi Do will bullshit their way into a win. Maybe Kenny takes out Hawk or Demitri, Tory embarrasses tf out of Devon and then Robby beats down Kenny again resolving that little arc, Kwon destroys Robby and then Miguel and Sam go super karate kid saiyan 2 and dismantle both Tory and Kwon with ease. Then Daniel, Johnny, Mike Barnes and Chozen face off against the Kims and Kreese with Johnny finally getting a decisive W on his main opp, Barnes and Kim's granddaughter doing irrelevant side character things and Chozen and Daniel taking on Miyagi's evil twin Kim Sun Yung and they defeat him thru the power of ancient Miyagi Karate magic

The writers wrote themselves in a hole tbh when there are only 6 spots when there are like 9 main characters in miyagi do. Edit: Guys I was never counting Anthony and I never said it was specifically nine I said it was like nine because I was too lazy to count the main characters.

Nah there are only like 6 main teenage students in Miyagi-Do (Robby, Miguel, Hawk, Demetri, Sam and Tory) because they have been doing karate since season 2
Kenny, Anthony and Devon dont count as they started doing karate in the later seasons and are not like the main 6
This is what happens when theres too many main characters. The writers havent realised how hard they made it for themselves arent able to consistently add depth to them
If they were going to do nothing with Kenny past episode 1 (that's where the Kenny, Shawn, and Robby plotline happens), they should have just kept him an antagonist.

The fact that they’re talking about Anthony and Devon (who’s not bad but has a better shot at the all valley) going to the Sekai Taikai and don’t even mention Kenny’s name sums up his character treatment well. Hope Devon comes clean about what she did to the Sensei’s and he can get a shot at redemption.

He's not any weaker so I don't see him (or Hawk) as getting nerfed, the plot is making an arc about undeserving winners with Devon and Demitri clearly portrayed as behaving negatively (to the point the Episode 4 cliffhanger was how they don't have the strongest team that should be going). A nerf would be if Kenny lost to Anthony or Muscles in a fair fight.
Yeah it's like no one understands what NERFING someone is, Kenny wasn't NERFED, he didn't lose to Devon in a fair fight, she drugged him, Hawk wasn't NERFED, he easily beat Demetri while not even fighting for real and Demetri snuck him when he was helping him up, plus Hawk.is WAY faster than Demetri, he could have ran after him but clearly chose not to

Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 1 definitely did Kenny dirty. First, they had him getting whooped by Sam and Tory, and humiliated him by having do a #2 on himself when Devon spiked his water with a laxative.
Season 6 part 1, is by far the worst of any Cobra Kai. On a side note, they don't mention enough about Kenny being a foot taller and 30 pounds heavier than before.

Kenny’s creation was a great move since it gave Robby a much needed character arc, when Robby was finally put into a sensei/mentor position he finally forgave both Johnny and Daniel (but mainly Johnny) seeing how hard it was to be a mentor figure and how also how hard it is knowing what is best for the student
But then we started seeing Kenny actually progress to be a strong character, seeing Silver say that he has the potential to be one of the greats (among guys like Miguel, Robby, and Hawk) but when they finally got him back on the right side and show him competing for a spot in the Sekai Tekai, they made the move to absolutely humiliate and belittle his character, ruining all the progress as a character he had just had
Now he’s back in square 1 where all he can do is just be ignored and written off the show or join Cobra Kai and Kreese again, which is the worst thing they could’ve done
The complete lack of Robby and Kenny interactions was really fucking annoying. but MY biggest issue is them cutting off growth for main character like Kenny. for a last minute plot add like DEVON? devon was added last minute in s4 so that boys didnt have to hit girls in the all valley, but eagle fang can still be competitive. she has NOTHING interesting about her as a character. AND it was obvious throughout the entire episode with the 90 million devon flashbacks and lore that she was going to somehow beat kenny. they titled the damn episode underdogs. like come on.

she’s not even in the slightest bit badass. even when we first saw her at the debate, tearing up her opponent’s book didn’t seem badass at all, just came off as more of a whiny bitch, which i was right about and was a constant.
Here’s what’s gonna happen: Kenny’s gonna confront Anthony about the laxative, and when he finally realizes it wasn’t him, he’s gonna look for a way to get to the tournament to confront Devon about it. Terry Silver is obviously gonna get out of prison in time for the tournament, he’ll find Kenny, Kenny will accept his invitation not because he trusts him again, but he’ll try to use Silver as a means to an end, just to get there. Then when they show up, he’ll go right to Devon and the gang and force her to admit the truth. Then, when everyone’s heartbroken, especially Johnny, she’ll be all, “I’m so sorry, Kenny 🥺”, and everyone will agree that Devon’s spot oughta be given to Kenny, so they’ll offer him a chance to join them. At first he’ll say no cuz he’d rather have them push him as competition cuz his pride is hurting, but ultimately, Robby will talk sense into him, and he’ll join them. Devon, feeling betrayed by everyone, especially Johnny, will decide to go with Silver, especially since he’ll appreciate her willingness to get her hands dirty. He’ll take her under his wing until the tournament is over, she’ll come back to her senses, and everyone goes home, and then the epilogue.

Yeah. They forced a lot of unnecessary drama and made characters act in ways they never would. They could've easily had an 8 or 7 man team. I was really disappointed they had her drug Kenny. Then for nothing to be resolved before they went to Spain was weird.
To me i think its some sort of message about how people make insane out of character decisions if they are desperate enough for something

I just dont get why demetri is still there when he has no interest in karate, mainly just joined to stop hawk. Thats been accomplished, allow hawk to have the flag and apologize to each other about mit and move on. But honestly just make 8 spots and this whole thing could've been resolved everyone else is just back up actors anyway.

This series startes going downhill for me rapidly at season 5 episode 10. There were so many "the plot demands it" moments in that episode that i had to stop watching for a lil.

I think Kenny still internalizes Silver to be his true mentor, and rumor has it both of them will be at the Sekai Taikai, so maybe we'll see one last confrontation between the two to tie up that loose end.
Yeah, I don’t see how people don’t realize that Kenny’s story is still not finished, and will be resolved.
The only problem is that Kreese leads the Cobra Kai.
And Silver has no Dojo that qualifies. However Kenny's story will defenately continue. During or after the tournament. Remember we haven't seen all 6 Cobras yet. So you might be in for a suprise.
If they were gonna make him lose, he should’ve at least lost fair and square.
Kenny was shit since season 5, they realised they had no villains for the kids besides silver so just threw Kenny as the villain and got saved by plot armour in all his big fights in season 5

It's because Kenny got too much significance in season 5 (like landing Cobra Kai a spot in the seika taikai) so the writers decided to give someone like Devon the spotlight in season 6

I think it’s more of the fact that the writers made Kenny beating hawk and making everyone think Kenny was gonna be to next to shine only for them to completely waste that chance by making him out of the tournament for a typical lazy fill in like Devon.
I'm not complaining. Kenny was walking plot armor and I'm glad we don't have to deal with his smug ass in the tournament (so far). I'm not sure why he's even in Miyagi-do since he's clearly still an arrogant prick.

The Sensei at a sister dojo of my class actually helped train Dallas Young (Kenny) and he gifted the instructor with an Eagle Fang button. Thankfully Sensei David knew how much of a Cobra Kai fan I am and gave me the button! It stays on my dojo bag at all times.
Everyone needs to chill. This is the first 5 episodes of a 15 episode season. We aren't even close to the end yet. Why everyone is already reviewing the season like it's complete is beyond me
Because ppl shouldnt have to wait multiple months for part 2 and 3 for them to talk about the season,when ppl have been waiting 2 years for this season to come out already. At the end of the day if the writers want to split the season in 3 parts then we can critique the first part as its own season. If the writers dont like it if they get critiqued then they can idk RELEASE THE EPISODES AND NOT HOLD THEM HOSTAGE FOR MONTHS.

I just felt really annoyed on how the did Kenny. I don't hate Devon for doing what she did because she didn't really think that Barnes would accept her either way. But either way I feel like Kenny would have deserved better. I can tell Hawk fans were probably cheesing after that scene like give me a break 😑

I tried to speak out about how I felt the writing had been very poor in season 6 so far on reddit, only to get flamed on there. It just sucks that Johnny is no longer the main character, seeing him rise above Daniel was great and I was really rooting for him. They both just seem to return to their childish ways as soon as it fits the plot.
At this point, ending the show with Johnny waking up from a dream after being knocked out in the Silver Mansion fight would be a better ending than whatever they're gonna actually scrape together for the ending

They really did Kenny dirty in season 6 both literally and figuratively.
No Weights classes makes this series kind of frustrating to watch though cause realistically a dojo would have at least one large boy. People like kenny would have zero chance.
This franchise has never tried to be realistic. If it did, Daniel wouldn't have beaten Cobra Kai at the beginning of it all. Notice they also never wear padded gloves and shoes, which you would in actual tournaments. Atleast I'm pretty sure they do in tournaments? I know I used to for sparring.
the fact that we just glazed past the girl giving him the laxative and she just still got to go to the tournament was one of the most infuriating things and why i’m not with this show anymore
I feel the reason they didn’t put Kenny in the Sekai Taikai is because he has nothing to fight for. Devon and Demetri have a reasons to fight, Devon to gain some respect from Johnny and the world after her mother died. And Demetri tired of being the underdog and actually wanting to be something for once.
Kenny just wanted to be there, cause he gained a spot in the first place.
They’re more focused on Anthony and Kenny. Kenny still has a passive aggressive relationship with Anthony still even prior to being a brown belt.
Sam has nothing to fight for either she has her whole life set out and Kenny didn’t make Anthony bleed on purpose that was one uppercut to the face he didn’t go any further than that people get hurt in sports like these
@@Deity_devil Season 5 was about her being all conflicted about everything in her life, she discovers by the end of the Season that fighting for karate, herself, and family and the answer for that is the Sekai Taikai. Season 5 set her character up for the Sekai Taikai. In contrast, Kenny has no motivation for it.
Kenny clearly has some spite still. Purposely targeting Anthony in the game, mocking that he won’t be going to the Sekai Taikai with him, and mocking Anthony saying he has a shot. It’s better than before but not solved.

@@Deity_devil Their tones were completely different. Miguel was trying to lift Kyler up, and Kyler showed genuine interest in trying to connect with him.
Kenny was the opposite. He affirmed that Anthony was right in being lucky on scoring Robby when Devon was trying to lift him up. When Kenny knocked him down he said “you thought you had a shot?” Nevertheless the fact he was targeting Anthony from the start of the game.
He clearly still has some spiteful attitude, which is why he immediately thinks Anthony is the one who put laxatives in his drink.

There were some leaks and there was a script on what parts were going to happen and what fights were gonna happen in part two of season six and it said Kenny’s gonna come in as a back up fighter, so they’re gonna redeem your goat
After silver got defeated it was basically over. He is the one that made Kenny so much stronger.

As much as I agree with your point, keep in mind that if Terry Silver and Kenny are both still in the Valley during the Sekai Tekai, it is very possible for Silver to get released and take Kenny back under his wing. Possibly as the villains for Part 3...
They did my goat dirty. The 6 members should’ve been Miguel , Sam, Robby, Kenny, Devon, Eli (hawk). This should’ve been the lineup. I don’t understand why would they put Demitri over Kenny. And they also nerfed Hawk. He went from Hawk the all valley champion to Eli the bed wetter who loses to Demitri like come on bro💀
I mean if I'm being honest Robby should have just left him alone at the beginning of Season 6. He was with his brother and out of the grasp of Terry Silver. He wasn't actively bullying anyone. It is weird that Robby took such an interest in Kenny and then all of a sudden dropped it in the next episode

I miss the bond with Terry Silver and Kenny. The writers definitely put Kenny to the sideline because I really like how his character was growing in the series until season 6, so far. I hope Kenny can get back on the right track by part 2 and moving forward.
Can everyone stop dissing on Demetri, his methods were unjust but he did what he had to do to win, and there being no set-rules given to their task, he also actually toe-to-toe in a physical fight with Hawk, unlike Devon.

People have pointed out how we only saw 4 Cobra Kai students appear for the world tournament. So not saying Kenny went back to the dark side but if he still wanted his shot then using Cobra for just that purpose wouldn’t be that far of a stretch. So that could’ve been a way for the writers to include more of the main cast in the finale.
