I've owned a 1988 Z51, a 1991 ZR-1, a 2011 Cadillac CTS-V, and recently purchased a 2016 Z06, 3LZ, convertible. I love the performance of the new C8s, but, like others have said, I really like the looks of the C7 better. Thanks for the video!
Z06 all day that's not even a question. It has way more soul to it The biggest difference between the Z06 and a C7 stingray is the widebody, you forgot to mention it
True, but it’s also not all that noticeable. Most would notice the grill and upper quarter intakes before the wide body. I own a stingray and when a Z06 that is the same color is parked next to us and I can promise my wife will walk up to the Z06 thinking it’s ours 😂
To be honest, i think a C7 Z06, with a full Z07 spec, has one of the most beautiful exterior designs ever made. The one is this video is pretty mildly specc'd. The C8 Z06 is also a very beautiful car. The regular C8 has weird proportions especially from the rear which is why contrary to your belief many car enthusiasts prefer the looks of the C7 Z
@chrissmith-yg5xn lol..yea I guess your right a c7 zo6 gets beat by its self on a roll race. A real race is off the line I don't know why people talk about roll races?? A Honda wirh work done can be a fast car ive seen them destroy c7 zo6s all day at the track when I use to go. Some people like new looks of cars. I have a c8 but don't care about racing. I also have a 2000 trans am ws6 that's very fast I use to race in my 20s but not worth it to me anymore. It's more about the looks and quality ride and the feeling of a nice new car. The c7 zo6 is a nice car not saying it's not but the c8 looks much nicer and the interior and ride is much superior. It seems the biggest hate comes from c7 and c5 owners of the c8. They are all corvettes I don't understand that, but I'm new to the corvettes. I never liked corvettes til the c8. More then 70% of buyers of the c8 are new corvette buyers. Don't you wonder why?
I prefer my C7 ZO6 over the C8 for a number of reasons, the primary is because of the transmission. There’s just something about the feel of the car with a manual transmission, a real sports car that takes hand to foot coordination. It’s just too much fun to blow through the gears and feel the power as you shift. I feel that Chevrolet made a huge mistake not offering a manual with the C8’s. My other thought is that Corvettes should have the engines in the front with the nearly equal weight distribution. Corvettes are not intended to be Ferrari’s or Lamborghini’s with rear engines, that what sets Corvettes apart, their uniqueness. I factory ordered my ‘17 ZO6 3 LZ manual, best Corvette I’ve ever owned. I’ve been Living the Dream since I was 17 years old with my first being a ‘63 convertible and now 50 years later, the Dream continues! What’s more American than hot dogs, baseball, apple pie, and Corvette.
In terms of performance, it is objectively better to have the engine behind you. A rear weight bias helps with handling, as it evens it out when you brake into a turn. Then all that rear weight helps the rear tires keep traction during hard acceleration. Finally, with RWD and the engine mounted in the rear you suffer less drivetrain loss. But does it take away from the Corvette identity? I can see why some would say yes.
The exact video I needed. Have a loaded 2016 Z but sometimes I consider a C8. Usually not for long. Have had one wheel crack. There was even a failed class action suit about this. The German cars are prone to this as well. Super low profile tires (often run flats with super stiff side walls) and wide wheels are the culprit.
I'm here early lol Great cars to compare. I've actually had the pleasure of spending about a week with a C8. Due to style (interior and exterior), mid engine and tech, I'd have to go C8 over C7. C7 is still great looking and ridiculously fast too though
Have both and they are completely different cars. The C8 is so much more refined and I’ll take that every day. The C7 Z is like running on the ragged edge of insanity. I always feel like it can kill you in a second whereas the C8 just allows you to go fast a feel like it’s got it under control. If you know your corvette history, then you know it was always supposed to be a mid-engine car. Zora finally got what he wanted from the beginning. GM admittedly stated they could improve on the C7 platform without going mid-engine, and the C8 did improve
Thank you for saying this, a lot of people think that they are just muscle cars but the corvette has always been a true sports cars that competes against Porsches and Ferraris, and was way past time it had a mid engine platform
I have them both as well…… 2016 7 Speed manual and 2023 Stingray Z51….. Both fun cars to drive… C8 is civilized and the Z06 just a monster…. The video was spot on with so many comparisons….
I love the interior of the C8 but I am on the other side as you with the exterior looks of the C8 vs C7. I think the C8 can look goofy at certain angles. The C7 (in a wide body) is just gorgeous at every angle.
I own a C7 Z06/Z07. Weight distribution 50/50. C8 weight distribution, 40/60. The C7 Z06 (widebody) will hold corners better than the C8. Manual C7 Z06s are appreciating. C7 Z06 all day. Thanks for the video.

C7 is better looking than a c8 100%. Whoever designed the c7 had massive passion for design. The c8 looks cool but i dont see the same amount of passion in the design like the c7.
i feel like they both have the same amount of passion just different visions, the C7 really encapsulates what driving a hot wheels car would be like but the C8 makes you feel like you’re in a spaceship, the differences imo come down to personal preference cuz both cars on paper are very amazing
The best thing about the c8 z06 is there price is high . So the c7 z06 manual won't lose much and will appericate mint examples .. I love my c7z06 7spd 3LZ with the stage 3 arrow, it's the chefs kiss
Any track, the C8 handles the curves, and laps many cars at price multiples. Vette owners know, that this latest iteration (C8) is special. I own a C8... and I don't race, just tour. It turns any road into a rollercoaster thrill ride, (except it doesn't go upside down!). I liked the C7 Z06 as well, but I'm not going back.
Add me to the list of those that think the C7 looks better. The one exception for me, ironically, is in yellow, as the Accelerate Yellow is my favorite color (Damn you GM for cancelling it). Also for launching a C7Z, tires can make the difference. I put the factory spec Z07 cup 2 tires on mine, and on a nice hot day, it hooks much better.
Bro I’m still so torn between the C8 or the C7 ZO6 I have grown up wanting a C7 corvette but now that I have the option of something close to a Lamborghini in design it’s kinda hard, either stick to my roots or move on and get try c8 plus if I got the C8 I think I’ll put a TT kit on it in like a year or two
C7 all day baby! More bang for the buck and you can easily be 680-700 to the wheel with Flex fuel, headers, and etc for 6-8k dollars. spend extra to port or add magnuson supercharger, on top of cam that’ll put you around 15-20 and you’re at or almost close to 1000 wheel hp. The driver experience from the c8 and c7 are night in day in my opinion. Regardless, Chevy did a great job it just depends on what you’re goal is.
I don't know this is fact but I have been told this by many guys that do track their cars and they tell me the C7 is superior on a track. The near 50/50 in the C7 is a game changer as compared to the C8's 40/60.
I currently own a 2017 C7Z and a 2024 C8Z. I purchased a C8 Stingray in 2020, and sold it a year later to buy a Plaid. The C8 Stingray in no way compares to the C7Z, it's not even close to being as bad ass. Leave it in Auto next time and let the computer do the shifting you will be much happier and notice how much quicker it shifts.
C7 Z06 performs much better with its raw power plus it's supercharged, but love the looks of the base model entry level Stingray C8. Though I much prefer the looks of the C8 Z06 better than both personally and outperforms both.
I have a friend who has both a C7 Z and a C8. He has a fairly large Corvette TH-cam channel. He will not say this publicly because the C8 is where it is for TH-cam. All the C7 stuff has already been done. He told me his opinion is the C7 is better in every way other than interior. And I have another friend with a very large Corvette YT channel and he told me the exact same thing. He also has a C7 and a C8.
Love the looks of C8 but for the money and experience….. A very close friend of mine died last year and his wife wants me to buy his 2015 C7 Z06 with 7,100 miles for $50k. Looks and smells like new. He had a problem with a bad set of wheels (misshapened, out of round) and went through a set of tires in 5,000 miles, never rotated, all 4.
GT350 is the best sounding car on the planet. That being said i would take the z06. I owned a 500hp s2000, If i can handle that i can handle anything LOL. That car was a death trap.
Bro!!!!! Tail lights and Z06 badge is the only difference from a Stingray?!?!?!? ITS A WIDE BODY!!!! It is nothing like a Stingray. Do your homework or just LOOK AT THE CAR!!!!!
Lot of C7 owners in this comment section lol. Sorry but the C8 is a far better car. If all you care about is having a manual that you can goose on the street once and awhile for a little loud thrill, just get a used Shelby GT500, about the same price and even more power. But for actual real world overall track or street performance the C8 is far better, newer, and still costs less.
Traded my 2018 Z06 for a 2023 Stingray and here's my $0.02 - I was tired of the transmission shudder, 7 cracked/bent rims and no traction off the line! Not to mention the shifting in C7 was embarrassing to say the least. Added bonus is a warranty. No regrets whatsoever.
I have 17 Z06. They are fantastic ! To me the C7 Z06 is more like American muscle car than C8. The flat plain crank mid engine is great and all that but it’s more European to me. The sound of the Z06 is unmatched. I could’ve got a C8 but I went for C7 Z06 and glad of it.
Not true that the c8 is better in the corners than the wide body C7s (Z06 and GS). C8s are set up for significant understeer so that the general public doesn’t walk the heavy back past the front on corner apex. That can be resolved to a certain degree with a track alignment (then they eat tires like crazy) but even still it’s pretty close. Most drivers, even weekend racers, will find the incredible grip and 50/50 weight distribution of the C7 much more manageable and familiar in the corners than the 60/40 of the C8 which builds driver confidence. Confidence makes you faster. Also, don’t just eat the marketing dept hype… The fastest stock production cars around the Nurenburgring are #1 the Mercedes amg black with the engine in exactly the same spot as the C7… followed by #2 the Porsche GT3 with the engine hanging out the back. If you believe the hype both of these setups are WRONG because midrear engine is the BEST but the results don’t lie… Don’t forget that that the Viper ACR layer out much like the C7 is still a crazy formidable track weapon. And… how many GTLM titles did the C7 win against a whole bunch of mid engine platforms… Nothing wrong with midengine at all but it’s not magic and often NOT better as the results quite clearly show thus far. ✌️✌️✌️
@@rickjacoby4542 so do I and I race them both at the club level. While c8 z51s best c7 z51s, c7 gs routinely beat the c8 z51s. Is wide body to base a fair comparison? Maybe not but the extra hp and the magical midengine platform should offset the rubber advantage. So…. See it nearly every weekend and have my own little black book of my lap times. The data doesn’t care about feel and it doesn’t lie. Also everything else I pointed out about Nurburgring times are just facts. C8s are great but they aren’t magic and on a tight road course or auto cross I’d take the c7 wide body everyday. On a long road course or on the street the C8 is the choice.
C8 is king. C7 is a nice car but nothing compared to a nice spec c8 and if you go to a c8 zo6 not even a conversation. All corvettes are beautiful. You see a c8 in the wild its a thing of beauty in pictures and videos it doesn't look as nice as in person. Alot of people have high mileage c7s and of course they'll say c7 looks better because they can't get a c8
The c8 is an overpriced off brand Ferrari. The c7 at least has it's own identity. Neither can beat a Demon on the Drag Strip and and the Dodge Viper eats Corvettes alive for fun. Sorry Chevy Bois 😂
Your comparing cars at least 20k more expensive. A C8 Zo6 would beat both. The Demon won't make it to the end of the track. Just ask Racer X. And if the Z06 can't beat them, the ZR1 & Zora will Dodge Boi. 😂
@@failingup4907 racerx is the only one with a Demon 170? The new off brand Ferraris will meet the same fate as the other vettes. The Viper on a naturally aspirated set up takes out the C7zr1. A Twin Turbo Dodge Viper is simply not fair.
@@failingup4907 the 5th generation Dodge Viper is a masterpiece, there is no need to go any further. I get to drive the Dodge Viper ACR at the SRT performance driving school I regularly attend so I'll tell you what it's capable of, you won't tell me. The Corvette is an inferior race car to the Dodge Viper. The new c8's aren't going to run Demon or Demon 170 times on the Strip either. Chevy did get some help from SRT engineers so perhaps these new c8's will be fast but not faster than Dodge.
I’ve had both. It’s a no brainer. C8 hands down. Better traction. Looks better. Won’t overheat like the 14-16s. You can see the engine. HTC nobody can cut into your vehicle. Fronk
Not enough to tell apart the ZO6 from a stingray ? Unless you’re blind or not a car guy ,,,, from the ground up: bigger, wider and different design wheels, bigger breaks, all aero is different, from front splitter, front grill, front fenders vent, side kirts, rear spoiler and the transmission air intake, wider body, bulging hood. Yes my mom can’t tell apart like for her all half ton 4 door blue trucks look exactly same,,,,
Damn dude...The C7s hood and rear quarters are totally different, plus the Z gets brake ducts and much wider rubber....And why on Earth did you get a slushbox to compare instead of the M7...That's one of the primary draws to going with the C7Z. For what it's worth, I got an early '23 Z from MacMulkin and ended up selling it after 6 months and replaced it with a mint '18 Z M7 with only 6k miles...For ~$50k less than I sold the '23Z for...The C7Z is that good...As long as you get the stick. Moreover, C8 Stingray is a grand tourer, NOT a track car like the C7Z, and is a dime a dozen now and won't hold value nearly as well as a low mileage, unmolested C7Z. This comparison isn't even close.
C8 looks so much better, C7 looks so outdated in comparison. C7 is a scary death trap with no weight on the rear wheels and so much power, and is doing burnouts while the C8 is going 0-60 in 2.7 seconds, its no contest
@chrissmith8469 The C6 Z06 was far superior with its light weight carbon fiber body body, Titanium reinforced 7.0L V8, the C7 was a disappointment by comparison
The one you like better is the one that’s better lol

He had a problem with a bad set of wheels (misshapened, out of round) and went through a set of tires in 5,000 miles, never rotated, all 4.
Don't even hesitate... Buy it,that's dirt cheap.
You can’t rotate staggered wheels…
I prefer the c7, but manual!
GT350 is the best sounding car on the planet. That being said i would take the z06. I owned a 500hp s2000, If i can handle that i can handle anything LOL. That car was a death trap.
C7 >>>>>>
Here in the United States of America, hitting 101 mph will get you A first class ticket to jail along with the car!
Bro!!!!! Tail lights and Z06 badge is the only difference from a Stingray?!?!?!? ITS A WIDE BODY!!!! It is nothing like a Stingray. Do your homework or just LOOK AT THE CAR!!!!!
Forgets ONE feature and gets this comment. Try creating a car review channel and maybe you'd be a little nicer.
@@ProfessorDrivesClearly I forgot the smiley face. No disrespect. This was a great video. 🤝🏾
@@Swole55_
Also suspension, mag ride, tuning, brakes, aero to name a few. Many differences.
It’s not rocket science
Zo6: supercharger ☑️
C8: naturally aspirated ❌
c8 all day..any day
C8 z06 is where its at
Id rather have a manuel C6 Z06
If you want a car that everyone thinks is cool, buy a C8. If you want a usable Corvette buy a C7.
Apples to orange tbh
C7 Z is a wide body compared to a stingray. Looks way meaner.
But C8 is ugly.
@@bedbath9056 Compared to what? It's a massive improvement to the earlier Corvettes, save perhaps the the C2.
The c8 has a wanna be Ferrari look with and Toyota MR2 looking backend on top of sounding like a euro car NO THANKS =C7Z06 ALL DAY
C8 front looks ok but rest of body especially rear is so ugly.
C7 looks much better.
C8 z51 because c7 z06 had those empty black looking brake lights which look horrible
I own both. It’s completely true.
C6 then C7 then C8.
The C7 should be a SEVEN SPEED MANUAL!! You wasted your time with that automatic.
@@Sub-Zero-392 Now you're just making sh*t up. Can't wait to see the new 2024 Viper.. oh wait... 🤔
@@Sub-Zero-392 that's great. I envy you. But, the ZR1 & Zora are still coming. BTW, what sports car do you own?
I'm going to do some pulls in North Korea. 😂
As far as sound goes ...u havnt driven a GT 350 R
If you track it a few times, you should begin to respect public roads. Driving a fast car fast and then losing your privilege to drive is pointless.
I race
C8 looks so much better, C7 looks so outdated in comparison.
C7 is a scary death trap with no weight on the rear wheels and so much power, and is doing burnouts while the C8 is going 0-60 in 2.7 seconds, its no contest
No it’s not lol c7 last of true corvette beautiful design and it has 650 pounds of torque the new zo6 only 460
@chrissmith8469
The C6 Z06 was far superior with its light weight carbon fiber body body, Titanium reinforced 7.0L V8, the C7 was a disappointment by comparison
I love the sound 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
C7 ZO6 all day I think the new C8 Corvette looks like caca😂😂😂😂😂😂
