IU must be protected at all costs. I actually found her through a k-drama and had no idea she was an idol!

IU is actually 2nd Gen. The Little Sister of Korea/KPop, her range is actually ungodly. She can even sing baritone. And she is amazingly humble still to this day. She was even a BnB host at Lee Hyori’s BnB show a couple years ago.
I personally consider her to be a 1-woman version of Twice, but mamamoo isn’t a bad comp.
I can't make up my mind if IU is a better actress or singer???? Her talent in both areas is immense. She has endless confidence balanced with charm and beauty. Your comparison to Mamamoo is right on, because of their versatility, emphasis on total performance and God blessed them with world class talent. More IU please.

i agree no comparaison for her she just the only one in that field . you can't compare her with AILEE, HYOLIN or TAEYEON all are fantastic vocalist but IU as something special that " nation pride aura " she's trully something in our country almost like a histoic monument of ou country . wen paople talk about the best personality of our country they call big historic figure like the king of the SEJEONG dynastie , our last president Moon jae-in ,our big doctor or scientist .and in a middle of that you got only few celebrity SUZY , PSY and IU that show how big she is here . of course now BTS and BLACKPINK join this list but IU was the very first
People who love IU because of the first song or two they hear make a mistake. You love IU first, because she serves up so many different styles... I was just checking out her collabs with PSY and the covers and interview with, and her live performance with Corrinne Bailey Rae, who inspired her to learn the guitar and sing "Like A Star". Amazing depth and diversity with this person who stands above the idols.

POV as a Korean, Her genre is compilation of Korean popular music. actually idol group music is considered worldwidely 'Kpop'. but indeed IU's music style is more common for Korean listeners over the few dacades. we are used to listen these type of music, who not only in 10-20's like me, also over 40+ ages. also she can cover 'Idol-like music' as well. but that kinda ballad, folk, r&b, dance type of music with some sorrowfulness is mainstream "pop" in Korean music scene.

she 's the first very popular chikd singer . she start at 14 years old and back on a day people in a crowd booo her , said than she can't sing , why is she's not at school to studie . than she ruin her life trying to be a celebrity . and now they all bow in front of her they're knees in front of her . every brand in korea want JIEUN as they're ambassador ( soju brand , make-up brand , lens brand , phone brand , car ,brand , coffé brand , lingerie brand etcc... , many movies or series producer want her as they're main actress . many korean singer, rapper , idols ,want a collab with her . and back in my school life half of the boy's in all school of the country are in love with her the other half are in love with SUZY ( we see her in the last PSY MV celebrity ) ERIC you have to react on SUZY mv's .
Yes, I agree with what you've said, because I also can't compare IU to other singers/performers like her, because she is completely different to them, she is unique, her vocals, style, & the way she writes her lyrics is very poetic & realistic👍👏👌💯 actually most of the people describe her as an artist.

actually kpop/ idol music from idol groups are just a part of k-music in general... (and yes they are produced to attract global audience)
general public in south korea actually slightly more gravitated into music(s) outside of idol music
= ballads, RnB, PURE soloist, hiphop, rap, band, ost drama/ webtoon, trot, music from variety show, indie music
its like 50-60% non idol music and 30-40% idol music
last 5 - 10% here is iu's music (at least in last 12 years), she is somewhere between both -- kpop idol (fandom oriented) and general public artists (real people oriented, who listen to music casually).

There’s only 3 kpop idol(s) that I keep track their new releases album. IU, MAMAMOO, and CNBLUE. They are unique and have various vibe. Did not focus on one theme. They are like my presents cause I always excited to know what will they give me next. Since you know IU and MAMAMOO, would love to see reaction of CNBLUE. But the only different is that CNBLUE is a boy band. The leader can sing various theme songs too just like IU and MAMAMOO. I don’t have any other that captured my heart like those 3 k-idol name
