    Thanks Mike, great video as always, sorry next time we'll try to clean it before sending it over, cheers

    Definitely more presentable with a nice clean box

    Still need to get myself one of those torches. Nice Job. You could probably strip one of those in your sleep Mike, shame about the state of the box though.

      I did these videos, so the customer could see what the boxes were like and what parts are needed - these are going onto a 5.3 LS conversion, so he wants all HD parts and converting to a 1:1 ratio, but it is not going to be cheap!

    Mike I'm disappointed you never mentioned the dismantling tool!

    I have a disco that came with a td5defen(1.410) and change it to a td5disco(1.211)....i have to change the front output flange, and the part that hold the the HandBrake (because the speed sensor), but it's worth, the diference is big.

    Hello I have a lt230 out of a santana lt85 gearbox
    It doesn't have a diffrential
    Can I add one? If yes what parts should I buy for that matter?

      You can add one, but you will need a serial number to find the right parts

    If the input gear is changed for an improved version with lubrication holes, does this gear come in different sizes for 1.2:1 and 1.4:1 or is the input gear one size fits all? thanks for the great videos.

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a whole range of gears available, however the early type from the very early 80s does not have holes - even the new ones

    • @husq2100
      @husq2100 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 1.4 input gear got longer by approximately 5mm in 1998, it also has a new corresponding rear bearing support plate. The 1.2 never got longer in the corse tooth type as LR changed to the finer Q gears in 1998 also.
      The cross drilled holes for lubrication (and increased input spline length) didn’t come until 300Tdi (not sure exactly what year)
      You can cross drill an earlier input gear yourself. Just grind off some of the case hardening first to make it achievable.

    • @husq2100
      @husq2100 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll also add that the 1.2 and 1.4 input gears are not the same tooth count. 26 for the 1.4 and 28 for the 1.2 if I remember correctly. So you can not interchange them, they have to match with their respective intermediate gear sets and high range output gear. Low range output gear is the same across the board I think 🤔
      The early 1.4 had a narrower gear width then they increased the gear width (late 80s is my guess), then at 300Tdi they increased the input spline length and cross drilled them. Then in 98 increased the overall length of the input gear which also increased the bearing separation, hence the new rear bearing support plate.
      The Q gears are 38 tooth input I believe? (I personally stay away from Q gears)

    We must be twins l just stripped one of them,it was in perfect condition fine spline are not as strong but they run quite. The r380 that was behind it was the same condition. Paid $550 AU for both of them

    hi mike...can you buy parts on the shelf to convert a 1.2 to a 1.4 ratio on lt230??

    Mike, what's the function of this transducer in gear box? I'm learning...

    @13:40 is that the detent for the hi-low?

  • @husq2100
    @husq2100 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could be a D1 case, I don’t think D2 as it would probably have the solenoid interlock on the top of main case and the speedo hole would be blanked off in rear output housing. Interesting LR must have started putting those Q gears in D1s not sure about RRC as they ended in 94 and the P38 got a BW tcase. I think they must have been end of D1 run leading up to 1998.
    I’m not a fan of them as the tooth design is weaker than the earlier, more course tooth (and what Ashcroft base all their ratio changes on) The high range output gear is also a lot closer to the inside of the case and more likely to restrict oil flow to rear output housing and down through centre diff.
    One good thing is the rear bearing support plate is thicker/stiffer and they increased the overall length of the input gear by about 5mm which give 5mm more bearing separation. They also did this on the Defender. (G cases on)
    What age (date stamp) is the main case Mike? They increased the thickness and internal ribbing in 98.

      @nickboylen6873 ปีที่แล้ว

      RRC got BW transfer boxes from around 1990 too.

      Must be a D1 with an R380 - so probably a V8

    • @husq2100
      @husq2100 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BritannicaRestorationsit’s interesting because that case definitely looks like the thicker internal ribbing which was earliest I’ve seen 98. Also I’ve never seen that extra relief for oil leak where the gearbox mounts?

    It’s hard to see through your back sometimes mate. That was a dirty box! Disgraceful; but the owner will pay for the cleaning. 😂👍🏻🙏🦘
