This song always gives me goosebumps. It reminds me of my home and my heritage. We are people who have undergone centuries of strife and hardship, but persevere through the fear of God, and the love of family and country.
I'm half filipino and don't understand much of the tagalog language because I grew up abroad, but I love the language, especially in music. This song is incredibly powerful, even if you don't understand the lyrics, but when I saw the lyrics here and read it as I heard the song, I got the strangest sensations like electricity through my body, starting in my chest and travelling to my extremities. Thank you for posting the lyrics of this incredible song. Mabuhay ng Pilipinas!
The theme song for the Revolution of the Flowers in '86 in which miraculously there was a peaceful overthrow of the Marcos. I was at demos in Washington, DC with my Filipina wife and baby child. The song seemed a quiet inspiration.
It was a peaceful revolution but not for the reasons you think. It was only peaceful because FEM ordered his men not to shoot. Otherwise, if he was truly a cold-blooded dictator, it would have been a bloodbath. So give credit to where credit is due.
@@serferten The world doesnt care about whats going on in our country. There have been many dictators in the past who wouldnt hesitate to kill somebody who stands in their way. Think of the Tiennamen Square in China or the killing fields of Pol Pot. But Marcos wasnt like that. He chose to leave rather than kill his countrymen. If he was truly a dictator, why would he care about what the world thinks of him. Remember that Cory's administration was an illigitimate one because Marcos won the Snap presidential election, and so Marcos had all the executive powers to give the orders to start shooting but he did not. And by the way, did you know that the US was responsible for the Yellow movement and how Charles Shulz along with his 20 member committee masterminded the Edsa revolution. Know your facts.
Living abroad , I can't help but become teary-eyed whenever I listen to this song. I only hope that the people governing the country feel the same and show their love by doing everything to improve the living standard of the Filipinos.
wow this is absolutely a beautiful song, it should be play in all international events; summer Olympics, winter Olympics. I don't know who wrote, and don't care. but when done by Lea and Freddie Aguilar is a grand slam. Vivan Las Filipinas por siempre.

Spectacular and exceptional voice! She's worthy of emulation. To budding or new, aspiring singers of the Philippines; be like her. She's not drowned by her fame. She maximized her talents, to the very best. What a stunning voice! A pride of the Philippines! I have love this song, since I was a little girl. More so, Lea's version. God Bless You. Keep it up! Being humble and keeping our feet always on the ground, is a great life principle to live by. No matter how successful we become, we must always have our noses down. HUMILITY is the VIRTUE of all virtues. (May 19, 2018 - Markham, Ontario, Canada).
This was from the Zarzuela called "Walang Sugat" by Severino Reyes. Sung at the end of Act 1 where the people from the Spanish-colonized Philippines has sung for their freedom after being in the hands of the Spaniards and has expressed opposition to the ongoing American Occupation
Translation My Country My country the Philippines Land of gold and flowers Love bestowed to her Offered beauty and glow Due to her beauty and grace Foreigners are tempted My country, they enslaved you Gave you endless suffering Chorus Even bird that fly freely Will cry once caged My land so fair Yearns to break free Philippines that I so adore Nest of tears and poverty All that I desire To see you rise and free AD LIB Chorus

My Country
My country the Philippines
Land of gold and flowers
Love bestowed to her
Offered beauty and glow
Due to her beauty and grace
Foreigners are tempted
My country, they enslaved you
Gave you endless suffering

Even bird that fly freely
Will cry once caged
My land so fair
Yearns to break free
Philippines that I so adore
Nest of tears and poverty
All that I desire
To see you rise and free
AD LIB
Chorus
