What Stan did, to get this total, I don’t think anyone who wasn’t in touch with PL at the time will understand. He was a master squatter & bencher. Had squatted 900 in the gym at the time. To ‘only’ come out with 865 from the squat and then miss his 600 bench, having hit 610 before....seemed like the 2300 was gone. To come back and hit the 600 bench and pull a 837 dead after never having hit an 800 dead prior.....was monumental. One of the most incredible totals in history.
His second squat attempt was absolutely beautiful. That mindset was unreal. Even in almost certain defeat he believed he could still do it. He was definitely in the right mindset for the lift. Cheers to the White Rhino!
Great video. Had the chance to meet Stan at Gold's in Vegas and I can truly say he is an amazing person to know. Creed seems to be a super cool guy also. I tried to just stay the hell outta the way since this is what they did for a living. I now compete in the heavyweight division in mma because of meeting Stan Efferding haha.
He doesn't even have "powerlifting" bench form and he made that 600 look pretty easy on that last attempt. His first squat did look like the back spotter was lifting him somewhat, but it was deemed good so all and all good job by Stan.
i have a question guys. isn't it the right thing to do during a heavy dead lift, squat, or bench to hold your breath. wouldn't screaming make you lose tightness?
For me when I hold it in I find it easy bringing it up and I also found it easy when I screamed Beacuse all the adrenaline just rushes through my body with the pressure and helps me lift
Chills man. Goddamn were capable some amazing feats when the mind wont let you fail. That second bench, pure will and determination. Not a backwards step in that man. 💪💪
He weighed in at 275 but was definitely heavier on the platform. Now he's shredded again. He says he's retired from everything right now but I have no idea how long that will last.
A few years ago I asked stan if he would go up a weight class and break 2'400 @308. He said it would be to much for him. He could do it, guess it just depends on how many more world records he wants to smash. Please don't retire.
that being said, stan's deadlift itself isn't a world record (which is actually held by KK at 275 if i'm correct). its his total at 275 thats a world record.
Knee wraps is raw in this fed, but I agree that Stan is really only getting knee protection from them. That slow eccentric is just how he squats. There's really no changing that at this point.
Yes they're required to help with judging, primarily the squat and the bench. Singlets offer no assistance. They make it so people can't avoid seeing your junk, though. That doesn't really assist most people either.
Stan has some issues with his Hamstrings. In another one of the meets Stan did, he Deadlifted with a more traditional, narrow stance and that's when he pulled it. According to Mark this stance is easier on his hams.
RAW = wrist wraps, elbow sleeves, knee wraps, belt, and compression singlet. What would a "not-raw" squat look like? Do they just operate a forklift or something?
+Bryan Taylor 1. There's no such thing as a "compression singlet." A "not raw" squat would be performed in a squat suit. It's a totally different thing.
+Jim McDonald Judging by your first remark, I can only assume you don't know the definition of the word "compression", because if you did, you would agree that the reason powerlifters wear singlets is to compress their core and midsection, providing enhanced stability and ultimately power. Secondly, you obviously missed the inherent ambiguity that is carried with the term "raw" these days, which my comment was intended to highlight. Once upon a time, "raw" meant something very specific. Now, people throw the term "raw" around like it means something, even when they are using equipment that is in direct conflict with the premise that the term "raw" was intended to stand for.
+Bryan Taylor No. Raw DOES NOT have a universal meaning in powerlifting around the world. In this federation, and a number of others, raw means not wearing a suit for the squat or deadlift and not wearing a bench shirt for the bench. Every federation allows wrist wraps and belts. Singlets DO NOT PROVIDE ANY COMPRESSION. You're thinking of squat suits. The singlets used in powerlifting are REQUIRED of everyone and are the same singlets that wrestlers wear. Trust me. No compression. I assume from your tone that you think you know what you're talking about and I somehow don't. It's the opposite.
+Jim McDonald Everything you said is nullified by the fact you - once again - failed to carefully read what I wrote. When I said "once upon a time", I was very clearly stating that the term "raw" USED to mean something very specific, which it no longer does (which I also stated clearly). Everything you said only confirms what I said in that post; that the definition of "raw" as its used now is subjective to the governing body of each powerlifting federation. "Raw" lifts were originally used to describe lifts that don't use "enhancement equipment", which included, but was not limited to belts, knee/elbow/wrist wraps, bench shirts, and suits. Over the decades this philosophy has obviously changed, primarily for two reasons: 1. In order to increase max-lifts within each respective federation, and the subsequent prestige and recognition of their meets, etc. and 2. In order to attract the "big name" lifters who primarily lift with equipment, which generates greater exposure, and once again, more prestige and recognition at their meets. "Raw" is just like the word "organic". Its used to give credibility, but the definition has changed so much that the words have lost their true meaning. "Raw" is not the same thing as "use any equipment you want to help you get the lift, you just can't use a bench or squat suit". Maybe along with "compression" you should look up the definition of the word "raw" in the dictionary, and ask yourself if it is an appropriate word choice to describe the types of lifts it is currently used to describe.
+Bryan Taylor Unless you can show some specific instance of it, there's never been a time in competitive powerlifting that I'm aware of when belts were not considered raw. Based on conversations I've had with guys who actually competed in early powerlifting, your story is more than a bit revisionist of what actually went on. Given that you thought that singlets were compressive and somehow supportive, I would tend to discount your view all together.
Very true, it's only a video so you can never be sure 100% of what happened or went on. I wish I would have been there. One day I'll make it out there. I just like the old school days before the monolift man. But hey what do I know? Just an amateur doing the best I can do haha
Awesome achievement!! I noticed that he wears his belt higher than waist level during deadlifts. I have seen a few other powerlifters do the same. Does it give any advantages over wearing it the traditional way?
quick questions to all the real powerlifters out there, why is Stan's belt right Under the pecs during the deadlift ? As a bodybuilder I have limited knoledge about this !
I know this is an old as fuck question, but I felt like answering anyway, he puts it there because he personally finds that position gives him the most intra abdominal pressure to help him lift the most weight. A belt in a powerlifting is used to help them lift more weight, rather than just ''supporting'' your lower back.
For the 9,000,000th time, wraps are raw in this federation...and many others as well.
Uspa also sir

I see a bunch of champion powerlifters commenting here i am in awe of your presence.
If that 2nd attempt at 600 where he grinds that bitch through with the battle cry to keep the world record going doesn't get you going idk what will..
For real lol I yelled "YEAH" when he got it up
same
That was some heroic shit happening that day.
All natural too.
I always point to this as the best bench ever. Maybe not the heaviest but deffo the most heroic!
Stan went fucking Super Saiyan at 4:15
that 837 pull gave me chills, looks like he's not gonna make it and he just fires through...
Bruce Willis got jacked
LOL. Good one.
when Stan Efferding earthquakes from just from holding the weight, you know that shit's heavy.
Ed Coan calling the shots! Legend judging legend!
That 600 pounds bench went up crazy fast
stan effortless
Guess who's not allowed in planet fitness
People who can deadlift the combined weight of the Zumba class?
Every so often I have to watch this. Still exciting to watch!
0:18 "Lets go babe"???????????
lmfao
ahahaha
he says "big" I think.
Secret gay love affair uncovered
such a different deadlift technique, like a sumo and conventional fucked and gave birth to that deadlift style
Ed coan gave birth to that baby
Jonathan Shah Jahan that's a strongman type of deadlift. So weird seeing guys that have wide enough shoulders to do this
BryanMcCaffrey10 it’s called hybrid
God rhynos such a badass, bodybuilder with strenght of a top powerlifter
watched this for some workout motivation. Ready to get it
Super badass, Stan you're such an inspiration, still early in my journey and trying to learn as much as I can from you
Awesome videos, thanks a ton for posting
Great job Stan, been following your videos your power has increased tremendously!!! Your a real rhino!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! congrats to all who competed and to the Rhino!
god, i love this channel
This video never gets old !!!! ;)
His second squat attempt was absolutely beautiful. That mindset was unreal. Even in almost certain defeat he believed he could still do it. He was definitely in the right mindset for the lift. Cheers to the White Rhino!
Enough to make a grown man cry, this performance was unbelievable considering everything stan had to push through
This was so good, I had to watch it in HD.
This guy is my inspiration to compete...can't wait until my first meet
Very impressive!! All 3 lifts were great!! Plus Stan hit 495 on Incline for 5!!

He was 47 years old at this time.
I can't believe that people hate on Mark Bell. He is so supportive of every lifter in anything i see him in, and works so hard to promote the sport.
Didn't realise his Bench was so big, knew he had big Squat and Deadlift but damn 275kg or most 280kg Raw Bench Press💪
i have a question guys. isn't it the right thing to do during a heavy dead lift, squat, or bench to hold your breath. wouldn't screaming make you lose tightness?
Ideally you hold your breath, yeah.
gotcha, just asking cause stan screams
He's screaming on the way up, that's when you're supposed to exhale.
+DaLeadBull not really , should hold until the lift is complete. Boris sheiko will tell you this as well
mitchell exactly, i agree with you. i've watched the most elite lifters and they hold the tightness and breath from what i've seen
Who would win in a tug of war, Stan or an actual Rhinoceros?
Those screams are powerful. I think I got stronger just by watching it.
that last deadlift was fucking awesome, he almost came to a complete stop halfway up and just powered through, sick.
You're welcome. He's competing at Super Training on May 19.
Stan is a fucking legend! and in my opinion he is the most exciting powerlifter to watch.
Love the hysterical scream at 4:17 lol :D
great seeing the spotters do their part!
He weighed in at 275 but was definitely heavier on the platform. Now he's shredded again. He says he's retired from everything right now but I have no idea how long that will last.
KK is the world record holder in his weight class. it's seriously hard to tell if people are trolling sometimes...
Creed may start competing once Eric Spoto breaks the raw bench record. I'll do a video about him then.
This was fucking intense holy shit
I saw his front squat video and am hoping he is going to do a 242 meet. He is probably my favorite lifter.
3:06 such a bullshit call on the judges. the judge says to rack before stan even locks out. WTF!??!!?
Squatting infront of the GOAT Ed Coan
I tried doing that "up" cue that he does and surprisingly it helps a lot.
Ed Coan @ 6:45. Now that Stan has shaken hands with Ed Coan, all his PR's seem to keep being re set....
A few years ago I asked stan if he would go up a weight class and break 2'400 @308. He said it would be to much for him. He could do it, guess it just depends on how many more world records he wants to smash. Please don't retire.
This man could crush me and grind my bones to dust. Jeez, incredible power he's got in the hole, amazing!
We must listen to the same station on Pandora.
That was beastly.
that being said, stan's deadlift itself isn't a world record (which is actually held by KK at 275 if i'm correct). its his total at 275 thats a world record.
I'd like to see stan training session in planet fitness :P
Raw lifting is way more bad ass then everyone being suited up. My total on bench squat and deadlift is like what these guys squat. Very impressive!
It's a 3 ply deadlift belt size XL from Spud Inc.
My first meet is in 2 weeks here for motivation. All I eat is rib eyes and rice now because of this man lol shit fucking works let’s fo
This is incredible
This is the most exciting lifter I know tbh
Ed Coan shaking his hand at the end was so epic I shuddered.
What does Stan do other than powerlift? Like job-wise. His house and cars are awesome.
Since when are Rhinos allowed into power meets ?!? Putting all those civilians lives in danger smh
He was momentarily confused. If you listen closely, you can hear Mark Bell saying that they can stay on.
Shaking hands with Ed Coan after just completing a world record total. What a beast.
Stan has some issues with his Hamstrings. In another one of the meets Stan did, he Deadlifted with a more traditional, narrow stance and that's when he pulled it. According to Mark this stance is easier on his hams.
He absolutely crushed that 865 squat. Awesome!
He is so damn explosive!
Hey Jim, thank you for all the awesome coverage of Stan's amazing total. When is Eric Spoto competing again?
I think I saw in another video that he was super dehydrated at this meet. Imagine what he could have done if he was well.
wow that deadlift grip and stance was really wide.. Amazing lifts!
This guy is like my Idol.
Beautiful Deadlift Form keeping that neutral head. wowww
We'll cover that in a separate video. Stay tuned

Ed Coan at the head judges chair
Him getting 600 literally surprised me into coughing up a big loogie and I can breathe easy now!
Dam great video very happy Stan hit 2,300 hey shud shoot for 2,400
Awesome seeing Lilly in the background cheering
Is that Dan Green at 4:21 standing in the background with the long jeans.
how come flex wheeler doesn't go to these anymore, cause the ben white/jj thing is over?
Inspiring
that 887lbs squat attempt was DEEEEEEP. props to him for even getting as far up as he did on that attempt
Awesome achievement!! I noticed that he wears his belt higher than waist level during deadlifts. I have seen a few other powerlifters do the same. Does it give any advantages over wearing it the traditional way?
It kinda helps with the lockout and arch
Thanks
Bara Slyng
Is it legal????
They gave him the first squat rep despite falling forward at the end?
Seems generous.
BuyLow SellHigh when the meet is run by all of their friends of course they are gonna be lenient lol
After a rack command it doesn’t matter what happens
865 lbs squat?? GOD DAAAAAAAMNNNNN! Rhino killed it. Fucking EPIC!
Why is powerliftingwatch not updated with this yet? FFS is PLing dead?
Do you know what Stan has squatted WITHOUT knee wraps? I do.
Guy in yellow shirt looks like hes going to give stan a RKO outta nowhere
It takes a lot of the hamstrings out of it and puts more stress on the quads.
Yes

What's up with Stan's funky stance and grip? I've heard Mark mention it in a video i think, but don't remember if there's an explanation ?
