    Nice Kevin, we both have a pretty similar routine/method mixing axes and battery chainsaw; Felling with axe or saw depending of the mood, limbing with axe because it's too much fun , bucking with the saw. The only difference for me is I don't have and can't use motorized engine in my environment, so I don't buck on site. I just do 9-12 feet logs with axe or saw and bring everything back to somewhere near my home or a road to finish the job.
    I did once buck several ricks on site, and then spent two days bringing everything back to home, never again :D !
    Eager to watch you make the handle.

      Sometimes it’s nice to work without all the noise. But if I have time, I will always limb with an axe!

    A combination of your skills and that axe made short work of that limbing job. Nice work sir!

    Clean, tactical limbing with that axe! Cool pattern. Go the ranger!

    Making your own handles is hard work and time consuming but deeply satisfying. I would love to try out elm but sadly the English Elm is now as rare as rocking horse poop. I am looking out for a good large holly log as I have a fancy that might work well. I use an electric chainsaw a lot now, but budget means I'm restricted by a cable...... spot the envy !
    Look after those arms of yours buddy, they have got to last all your life !

      Rare over 8” here too. They rarely get to this size before getting sick. So I was happy to find this one growing on the wood line.

      Was my idea of a perfect pulpwood axe. Owen made it for me as part of the Lamaca Work Axe trade.

    Every time you show off that little electric saw I get closer to buying one haha. Love how light and quiet they are. How are you liking your side by side? Should be great for the things you like to do.

      Man, I’d trade a lot of things for that battery saw. You’ll want two batteries and a charger obviously, which makes it crazy expensive to get into, but it’s the first tool I pick up when I’m going to the woods for the day. The side by side is a game changer for me, especially because I just re-injured my knees.

    You definitely shared some good limbing witchery there. Might add that battery saw to my Christmas list. Great video, Kevin. That was like half Polaris commercial...love it. Cheers!

      I love limbing. It’s my favorite pet of the process. While expensive to get into, that saw is invaluable to me as a land owner. And you’re right, Polaris should pay me lol.

    • @KevinsDisobedience
      @KevinsDisobedience  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately I cut the bow staves too short. I thought 59” was plenty, but Simon said I need like 80” to start with for a long bow, so I might just make shovel handles or something like that. We’ll see.

    What brand of log peavy is that? I've been looking for a good one to buy to use at my parents house where I buck and split firewood for their personal use. They are just so handy to have around. Super cool wood to use for handles and such! Stay blessed and stay safe out there!

    This is a great thing to put on TH-cam! It’s such a great skill being able to fell a tree and turn it into great handles.

    • @KevinsDisobedience
      @KevinsDisobedience  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, fun little series. Be awhile before I can actually haft an axe with the wood, but worth putting the time in for the future. Not a lot of great options left for handles. House Handles is probably the best. They usually have stock and are pretty cheap and not stupid thick.

    • @KevinsDisobedience
      @KevinsDisobedience  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes sir, that’s the plan. Going to do one by hand with wedges, one free hand with a chainsaw, and one with an Alaskan mill. Be a neat comparison, I hope.

    Well I'm glad the see that rest of the world and us have moved on from the Buckin' Billy Ray tiff. It is satisfaction indeed when you make yourself a handle from a tree or limb you cut yourself and carved, sanded, or willed into existence.

    • @KevinsDisobedience
      @KevinsDisobedience  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, folks get bored easily. I’m sure there’s still guys out there who hate me, not sure about Buckin, but such is life 🤷‍♂️. I still catch the odd angry comment every couples days, but yes about over I reckon.

      I think Buckin needs to step away from , wow I'm a utube star before he gets hurt or someone with little experience trys what he does.
