For the limited cutting i do,couldn't justify the extra ching! Opted for the MS462,put WCS dogs on,max air flow filter on,in addition to the WCS bark box, she's a helluva saw! Love it.
I bought a tuned up one of the Collins 2.25 boys axes. Just found this on sale for $30 on Amazon and couldn’t resist. Very nice review
Take a piece of 1 in pipe and weld that to the ax head. You can make it as long or short as you want, you can make it as curved or straight as you want. You can beat the handle thinner if you want.
066, Best Saw Ever😊
I appreciate the video. My brother very informative. I'm about to hang my first axe head so this is extremely helpful
I have no problems with mine. Perhaps you bought copies without knowing… Lamnia sells the real ones: no gaps, rasor sharp, strong and definitely no square shapes. The name Urnieta is small, not like on yours.
100% agree with your points, nice video, Kevin 🙂 I also wouldn’t want a 1P, I’m 6ft4” and I’ve tried a 1P and no way is it liveable. I’m planning on thru hiking the PCT next year and this MSR is coming with me. The only issue I sometimes get is the fly on the ends touches the inner in windy conditions & I wish had a guy out to pull it away from the inner.
Just one advice from a 5 year user. You fold your tent in 3 and the inside comes into contact with the dirty part of the floor. Better to fold it half way from both sides and then fold it from side to side. This way the underside of the floor is only touching undersides and keeps the inside mesh clean.
Not necessarily plus there sheath is thin and flimsy. Also lot of them have chipped mine included. So saw weterlings for the win.
I tried out a sandvick for a day and kinda hated it. Stuff kept getting caught up in that loop. I understand the concept, but seems to have very limited applications like limbing. Just more complicated than necessary. I regularly use machetes for brush and stuff up to 3" diameter no problem. If i get into anything bigger, I'll just take a small axe like the trail boss.
1:32 where did you pay 2k plus?
I guess it's the old dodge, chevy Ford thing ...... I have been hunting down an old Plumb Jersey pattern axe for a while and found one and love it
I like my 500i, also have a ripsaw ported 372xp. Not much i can say about ripsaw without being completely disrespectful. They are definitely not the ones to go to.
Watching YT axe videos this snowy AM, mostly guys fooling with heads and handles in their basements. Nice to watch you actually swinging the tools.
But the guy you were talking about can have one tomorrow
Neotech now has a 36-in bar chainsaw with a 90cc motor think I'm going to have to buy it
I’ve been looking for a good budget axe and was between Council Tools Boys Axe and a Fiskars X15. And really, the moment you have to rehang a $20 wooden handle it’s quickly not as cost effective is it? Guess I’ll get the Fiskars after all
If pairing with a velvicut boys axe, would you go with the 19” or 24”? Do you think the 24” new Hudson Bay is too similar to the 28” Velvicut boys?
Leave a few for critters🌍💚🌎👍🏼
okay I just want to say e few things it not essentially a Hudson bay its a simplified Rhineland pattern(German). Second thing mine came tight but I had to remove the paint from the eye so I could submerge it in linseed oil, turpentine and bees wax mix, I did this so temperature changes wouldn't loosen it.
We own a 500I and it is a beast. As a company we are chain saw poor but it seems that every time I grab a saw it is the 500I. Flow master is a must for all saws.
lol, I had to laugh when you put Osage into a medium hardness category. As far as I know Osage is the hardest, densest, heaviest per cubic foot and contains the most BTUs of any wood in north America. I make longbows from Osage and am consonant the lookout.
The 592 will take your lunch money. Less vibe also.
How do you select the size of file for a square file? Is it the same as a round file (3 rivets divided by 2)?
😂 I recently bought a couple of LINK handles. I thought they were very nice for the price. However , I do work at a hardware warehouse and I did pick out the best ones. There's a handle factory near my hometown that's been around since the 40s , they are supposedly very good. They're called Tennessee Hickory Handles they also have Ash. Any style , length, eye size and color. It's strange that I had to hear about them from someone in another area. I'm gonna check them out. They do custom handles also. They're supposed to be "mid priced " .
Interesting that theres not a single bushcraft keyboard Warrior saying your edge is going to fail because its not convex.
Be careful on those rotten pecker poles! The way to make them fall without a wedge is a big notch past half way deep.
What does changing a drill chuck got to do with it running I've been a carpenter for 40 years please explain
beautiful axe! good or bad, who cares if it looks amazing though
You'd have to get Red Wing 877s or something to do an apples/apples comparison. The ones shown above are the Chinese types built to last a year or so.
Hey Kevin. Im curious what the big log challenge is. Is it just bucking? Whats the rules? Cant find the origin.
Yeah, just bucking. I can’t remember what the min diameter needs to be. I think 20”?
Wrap that thumb around the wrap bro
Egan makes lower profile 3 point felling dogs. Same aggressive shape but not as long. Cheaper too.
That's actually a really good idea. Finally a saw video with something i didn't know or haven't thought of.
Sure enjoyed this review. I have an earlier version of the L.L. Bean Continental Rucksack that I received as a Christmas gift 30 years ago. It’s nearly identical in construction to yours. The only difference I can see is that back then they used a rolled leather cinch cord for the main compartment and the canvas color was dark beige. I think the cost at that time was $145 which in the mid 1990s was a lot! I’m just shy of60 years old now and still have the L.L. Bean nylon gaiters my dad bought me for Christmas when I was a kid. Sadly, L.L. Bean is not the same “outfitter” anymore, as fashion has replaced function and production costs are the priority over “Made in Freeport Maine”. But such is progress…. and the way of many heritage outfitters who wish to survive in the modern day commercial climate. God bless Duluth Trading Co. and Frost River who have stuck with what made them great in the first place.
Yeah, there’s still some outfitters making heavy duty gear, but the cost is getting outta control. I mean you could easily drop a grand on a thru-hiking pack these days. Crazy!
Curious Mr. Kevin, is this the bottom of a tank, or a fab/purchased item? Very awesome sir...
Fab job. Fire bowl
@KevinsDisobedience I like it, very unique...thank you for the reply sir...
Oh boy more rocket science pfft.
Loved the part where you said if they make a difference, and which one was better
Never thought of doing this.
that just reminded me I was considering removing the spike (on both sides) that is (are) adjacent to the bar's centerline , but mine are medium-long unlike yours so I hesitated ..
IMH(umble)O , one of the most professional behaviour\habit of a real pro in spirit is to *never* stop honing one's skills , and also being never ashamed of this 🔥 -this vid got me subbed , it's nice to see some still do so 🙌🏽
Thanks brother
You should try with a short saw, its fun.. 9feet around with an 18..
My favorite saw is a 445 with 18” bar. The one I use the most
Was sounding like; that a gong
Don't listen to this goofy nerd about tools.
Thanks. I’d wear ya out in a day if you worked with me. No doubt. Cheers
Better than either of those tapes is self vulcanizing rubber tape. That stuff is a miracle of material science. No adhesive to turn to goop and it never lets go of itself.
I’ll give that a goog. Thanks
Stupid small forest axe 😆😆
Why would anyone practice notches lol? Why would anyone port a 500i? Money to waste.
There are professional tree guys that have had theirs ported and tuned and they seem to love it.
...it's a habitat tree dumb a$$....
what do you think of a husqvarna 51? btw love the video
I have one, it's getting a little age on it but still a great saw.
Solid saw
If you really want to know the answer, weigh the stone before and after soaking.
