You must not be in a hurry when you catch this let it to be exhausted and weak by adjusting and pulling the line and following it everytime it strugle then let the fish die before pulling it to the boat to avoid this situation
I've seen a few of these marlin videos, it's looks like they do this on purpose. I wouldn't be surprised, their whole shtick is being precise. If he didn't move he would've been impaled.
Make sure the fish is worn out before wheeling it on board. Marlin thrash a lot, and their spiers can be especially dangerous.
