    I whip my shackles with #10 copper. Scrap house wire, it twists up nice, doesn't corrode, and I have a lot of it.

      We also always use 6 or 10 mm2 single strand electrical copper wire insted of the split pin when installing the marina moorings with heavy duty hot galvanized shackle see link for the design we use. (wireropeshop.co.uk/wire-store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_392&products_id=1580&zenid=gkt3rud4rr3evdl4emga9hm7d1) 500+ shackle and 10+ years in the sea, we have not had any failures so far. Rule of thumb, always us the biggest shackle possible...

    2) Eagle catching fish nearby and Murphys law kicked in on the camera. Better luck next time.
    3) Simply fantastic! Maaaan, I want to live with a community like Gabriola sooo badly.
    Best regards luck and health to all of you.

    I recommend Monel wire, as opposed to stainless for moorings.

    • @neffk
      @neffk 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've heard that stainless doesn't do well in an anarobic environments. It's strength in resisting rust depends on forming an oxide... But take it with a grain of salt---I'm just one of the monkeys, pounding on a typewriter.

    It only takes a little bit of time you get enough corrosion with the China Steel so that the pin falls out. Not sure if it's always a thread or the eyelet. It doesn't matter how you fasten the PIN it fails with China Steel. I've tried all kinds and styles of shackles with different clevis. Just by the standard screw in with us Steel you stainless steel wire and a zinc. Good for 3 years

    4:00 - if it klicks it is a conventional relay

  • @charliecruzen3394
    @charliecruzen3394 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Green Jackal is China, red shackle is Canada, orange is USA. The Steel really bad with lots of impurities in the China plus the threads are so loose the pins fall out

  • @charliecruzen3394
    @charliecruzen3394 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Stainless steel wire is better. Your problem is most likely you are using China Steel shackles. And or China chain. You'll get less than a year from China Steel and should get three years from us Steel. Make sure to use u.s. steel and a zinc will help
