Link or name of WA farm for the sheep please 💕 I’m just getting east fresian x merino from MT next month for dairy and wool. Will eventually want a ram for breeding. 🎉
Guys! The wool is FANTASTIC for mulch! I’ve been raising sheep for 11 years also and have used the “trash” wool as mulch in my market garden for many years. I’m also hoping to add some legit dairy ewes this year, too! I am milking one of my crossbred ewes who lost her lambs this week as a trial run. Wishing you all the best in your new endeavor from Central Oregon! 🐑❤️
In Ireland we use Irish whiskey, lemon, cloves, brown sugar or honey in our hot toddies. There's another warm drink I adore called Scailteen- whiskey, honey, hot milk with a dusting of nutmeg. To die for!
These sheep are so special! We raise East Friesian/Lacaune and East Friesian/Tunis dairy sheep in our farm in North Georgia. Our girls are due to lamb in just two weeks! I can’t wait. The milk is phenomenal and I use their wool in my homemade tallow soap. Wonderful animals for a small farm.
The lambs are so adorable. Last year a black katadin gave birth to twins….one solid black and the other solid white. It was so unusual to see such a contrast between the white lamb and her mom and the twin.
You two are so cute. Elliot, you are blessed to have a man that is into the whole homesteading life like you. I'd love to have sheep, but my hubby would hate that. I forgot all about hot toddies. My mom used to drink them. I think I would like more spices added, like star anise, cinnamon, and lots of fresh ginger.
Hot toddies look so good! As a child when we weren’t feeling well, scratchy throat, my mother made us little toddies of whiskey, lemon and honey, she had special little glasses for us to drink it, I will never forget how warm and cozy it made me feel, like a big hug!
The cooking community is the best. Im not a member, (yet), but as a classically trained chef, everything is absolutely top notch!! Just having those recipe cards is just amazing!!❤
I hand shear my icelandic . I actually use spring form shears as I have carpet tunnel. My sheep are wild lol. But once you get into the shearing it gets easier.
Omg the fact that you brought up Edwardian farm!!! I love that whole farm series!!! I can’t find any on dvd though. Edwardian farm, Victorian farm, war time farm, and tales from the green valley. Such neat farm series!! Good luck with your dairy sheep, hope lambing goes well!
I have 2 sheep. I love them! Actually let them have lambs last Spring.. and milked one of the sheep after her babies left- though she was not a dairy sheep. So much fun! And so excited to see yours!
So, I’m an enthusiastic woman, who has been trying health drinks for summer and winter. When I watched this video, I really kept watching and zooming your videos, cause I wanted to see your faces while drinking the hot toddy drink; then the video was over. 😊 it must be good!!!
I made the one alcohol-free but heated with fresh ginger. Great, thank you! I rewatched your Sicilian series and now I wonder where your family is going on vacations next time 🤩
Awwww you folks, that was such a lovely video. It was kinda like therapy 🥰 seeing the ewes and lambs and then you both end up in the kitchen making something delicious. It was a really nice surprise seeing both you and Stu in the kitchen making a hot toddy. I love adding whisky or Baileys to a hot latte late in the day at Christmas/winter the only trouble I find is that they can taste so good that it's tempting to drink them too quickly 😅 two's enough though!
Dairy sheep is such a cool thing to introduce to your homestead, I want to get sheep (goats are too smart and they produce nasty milk/meat) it's a dream of mine to have some
Goats require a fence that can hold water 😂🤣 but sheep can be trained to 2 strands of hot wire and they are also browsers plus they can graze on grasses. The best animal for a small homestead also provides tasty luscious meat.
Congratulations on your new sheep and new babies😀 They all look so sweet. 🧡 The dark wool is beautiful and am partial to that, because it's more unusual. It's nice to see Stuart in the videos....showing how to make hot toddies, a perfect way to end a cold day.
So confident and professional at the beginning. So sweet at the end (pun intended ;). Enjoyed the new format and the cute additions to the farm. Thank you. :)
So very much wish I could reliably get sheep's milk where I am since I am allergic to cows milk protein. So excited for your family! And I also have an Aussie puppy about the same age on my urban farm. (Which is why I can't keep sheep.)
There are also dairy farms raising Camels for milk and Water Buffaloes. People in other parts of the world regularly milk Yaks, Reindeer, and assorted Equines like Horses, Ponies, and even Donkey's
Well that was different sheep and toddies. Ha little to much sheep for me but that’s ok you had the sheep in the title. Now we’ll see how the milking goes.Hope it’s what you need for you’re little farm.
YAAAAY!!! SO EXCITING!!! I've been trying to find information on dairy sheep for the last 3 years but it's really hard. We're a military family so we've only been gardening and learning other homestead skills in the meantime because of the possibility of moving every few years. But my husband is retiring and moving back to Washington this year. I'm hoping we can find some property to homestead in the near future. Going to start with chickens then get sheep. I had both as a kid but I never thought about milking sheep until I watched Tudor Monestary Farm or which ever one it was. I'm more comfortable with sheep than a BIG cow. I hope you show some more on your dairy sheep please!!! But I'd like to know more about your sheep operation and butchering. Please add in the link to the farm you got your dairy sheep from. Thank you 🩷
So exciting! I want a few dairy sheep in 2024 (been looking for about 4-5 years and it's about time) :). Where's the link for the farm you got yours from? (I checked the description and pinned comment).
I'm jealous in the best way possible. :) I've wanted dairy sheep for several years as well! And the higher fat content for making cheese. Yum! But I did learn from a friend who raises dairy sheep that they are different than cows when it comes to milking. You have to work the udder more to get the milk down and they also have to be calm or they wont let down. I'll be following your journey with them. Thanks for sharing. ❤
Love a good hot toddy. I like to make mine with tea. This has been a super sick year for our family so the hot toddy has certainly been good medicine👍🏻
Hi Shaye! Long time follower and look forward to all your videos. Was wondering what farm your new dairy sheep came from? We are in Hood River and has me wondering if this would be good for our homestead.
My mom used to give us when we were young your hot toddies when we had really sore throats during the cold & flu seasons. But it didn't have any water in it. She'd heat up whiskey, lemon and honey on the stove and we'd drink it straight. Things were a little different back in the 60's and early 70's.
Please let me know how the Sheep milk compares to Cows Milk? I've always been extremely curious. The alcohol kills the protein on viruses. So Ive been told. Good for the blood.
Im probably just missing it (not great with the technology here) but i don't see the link to where you got your milk sheep, im mostly just curious, but might be good to know for the future when I'm ready for fresh/ improved genetics.
Do y'all have any problems with parasites there? Or where your sheep already resistant when you got them? We're in North Alabama and have had a really difficult time with parasites.
have you done much research on who would be a great alcohol supplier- regeneratively grown.... chemical free ingredients? been looking into this lately
I'm a little jealous we have had a difficult time with sheep. Humidity and worms even with Katahdins and Barbados. However, we have room for cattle and we have settled on Dexter's. I have no desire to milk an animal so no need for dairy animals.

Imagine this with sheep milk! Love this idea, thanks for sharing! ❤
Do you think this could be done with mead instead of whiskey? I can't have whiskey
Ooh that sounds delish
Mmmm almost sounds like an Irish version of eggnog but without the eggs and cream. So no maybe not like eggnog. 😅
@@KHomesteadMead is delicious!

What a fun new adventure for you guys!! I can see a new twinkle of excitement in you both 🥰

Congrats on the newest additions to your farm. I have heard of Hot Toddies, but now I know!

What cute these sheep, so love it❤such awesome sharing 👍👍have a blessed weekend friend 🤗🤗
Wow! And their pregnant! Gods blessing on the the Elliot Homestead! Yeah I really enjoyed Edwardian Farm. The whole series.
It is a very time of the year, can sense your excitement about it all and that’s a good thing😍🫶🏼✨OMG the babies💖💖💖

Not all goat milk, my Nigerians have wonderful milk and no climb horse fencing does a great job keeping them put

Those lambs are so darling. I think I'd have to keep them all. That hot drink sure looked good. I think I'll go make one now!
At our house we skip the whisky and call it lemon tea 😁
Also delicious 😂
I'm from the UK and we do hot Lemonade, honey and Whisky, it's really good if you have got a cold or flu ❤
So exciting!!
Hadn't noticed, you're Aussie before. I have one but I live in a city. She'll be perfect for you all. They are so smart
Lovely with ginger and nutmeg 😊
Would love the info about the breeds and the farm you mentioned! So exciting
I'm excited for your family.
thats great IM making feta with store bought sheep milk and ITS AMAZING you can just tell its better for you and doesnt taste like goat
So very much wish I could reliably get sheep's milk where I am since I am allergic to cows milk protein. So excited for your family! And I also have an Aussie puppy about the same age on my urban farm. (Which is why I can't keep sheep.)
Geeking out a bit over your new ewes! Sheep cheese is amazing!
Picturing Shaye wrestling and flopping a sheep into her lap like Alex and Peter from Victorian Farm, lol.
I'm 66 years old but was raised in the city. I've heard of goat milk but I had no idea you could milk a sheep!
There are also dairy farms raising Camels for milk and Water Buffaloes. People in other parts of the world regularly milk Yaks, Reindeer, and assorted Equines like Horses, Ponies, and even Donkey's
As my husband 92 year old grandma says, “a little toddy for the body.” We makes ours with black tea instead of hot water
Well that was different sheep and toddies. Ha little to much sheep for me but that’s ok you had the sheep in the title. Now we’ll see how the milking goes.Hope it’s what you need for you’re little farm.
For people who are not at all fans of whisky, hot toddies are also delicious with spiced rum

Hello from Roseburg Oregon🥰 xoxoxo
Enjoy your new journey with the dairy sheep🎉.
Mmmhot toddy yum!
JO JO IN VT 💞
LOVE THIS 🧡
Please wait till spring to shear. If you still need a coat, so do they.
Love a good hot toddy. I like to make mine with tea. This has been a super sick year for our family so the hot toddy has certainly been good medicine👍🏻
Y’all are so cute makin your drinks :)
That sounds delicious
I love you guys.
If warm drinks are your jam, try hot buttered rum. It's extravagant
Hot toddies got us through Covid last year- only thing that sounded good and, the only way I’ll drink bourbon!
Hi Shaye! Long time follower and look forward to all your videos. Was wondering what farm your new dairy sheep came from? We are in Hood River and has me wondering if this would be good for our homestead.
Me thinks there was a few retakes on the hot toddies 🎉
Are these from nomad shepherd? I have 4 of her dairy sheep. Love them so much.
My mom used to give us when we were young your hot toddies when we had really sore throats during the cold & flu seasons. But it didn't have any water in it. Shaye, I’m missing the link to the farm where you bought your dairy ewes…. I’m perhaps blind 😜, but can you direct me to that? Thank you so much!!
I would add a nice pinch of cayenne pepper. Good for your heart.
ITs good for what ales you😊
were is the link to the farm you got them? Very interested
What is the name of the sheep farm where you got your new sheep? I can’t find the link. Thanks

You two are so freakin’ cute ❤ loved this!
I didn't catch the breed - i have icelandic sheep which they look like polled icelandic?
Do y'all have any problems with parasites there? Or where your sheep already resistant when you got them? We're in North Alabama and have had a really difficult time with parasites.
The sheep milk tastes great and my dairy intolerant family can digest it.
have you done much research on who would be a great alcohol supplier- regeneratively grown.... chemical free ingredients? been looking into this lately
I did the dairy sheep thing and was disappointed on the udders and production… now I milk a khatadin
I can’t find the information on the sheep.
It's a family thing, but always do a hot toddy with hot black tea instead of just hot water
I can't find a link for the sheep farm? Anyone come across it?
The puppy is adorable but where is Rex? I miss seeing him.
I'm a little jealous we have had a difficult time with sheep. Humidity and worms even with Katahdins and Barbados. However, we have room for cattle and we have settled on Dexter's. I have no desire to milk an animal so no need for dairy animals.
I don’t usually like whiskey but I do love a hot toddy! 😊
How do you manage to kill those lovely sheep for meat? I couldn't do it - just if they die by their own I could eat them.
Four Roses...Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. We love our bourbon!
