    I've watched so much ufc that I'm practically a black belt
    I've never actually trained and am in my mid 40's but that ADCC thing doesn't look so hard, I would most likely win it. Only reason I haven't is I'm afraid I'll get too worked up and once I see red, some people gonna get hurt

      If you're a promoter, I'd agree wholeheartedly. He certainly ran his mouth for long enough. Not that I'm vilifying him, he was kinda forced to make a spectacle of himself if he wanted to gain the recognition he deserved within his career timetable. He forced the sport to evolve, dragging it kicking and screaming, into modernity. There's so much machismo, anachronistic bullcrap tied up in the culture of martial arts that he kinda had to confront them in the language that they would be forced to respond to.

    Once upon a time there was popular no-gi grappling in America with great shit talking and heavily managed grapplers who only wanted to take matches they were heavily prepared to win. Eventually nobody cared about the sport anymore. People just wanted the drama and the violence. The competitors just wanted the money and fame. The American hubris, greed, and ego almost fully destroyed the art and we were left with none other than professional wrestling. Then a well marketed style of martial arts from Brazil became popularized as the most effective one on one martial art in existence. Although the Gracies acted almost like a small mafia in the early years the slow pace and intricacies of Gi grappling along with some residual codes of honor from its Japanese predecessor allowed Bjj to become an art that was a great mental, physical spiritual development. Eddie Bravo defeats a prominent Brazilian with a unique half guard game creates a nogi cult following. Meanwhile on the east coast Danahers boys start adding more of that old wrestling art that almost died(admittedly improving it heavily), added enough juicing that the competitors look like pro wrestlers, and started talking mad shit while heavily preparing for match’s against opponents who were out there taking on anyone at anytime under any rule set and were willing to show the flaws in their game. Now we are shedding the gi which has thousands more techniques people can learn for a simpler version that’s a bit more about physicality adding more juice adding more shit talking and gaining money from a fan base that is not interested in the intricate nature of our sport. It’s feeling cyclical to me. I’d also like to mention it’s easier to switch from sub only to points then it is to learn and become proficient at Gi and no-gi simultaneously. Which most Brazilians are still doing.

    • @cmo5807
      @cmo5807 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hated training in a Gi so unrealistic for most situations..... most peoples clothing in the real world will rip and tear if you put it through what a Gi goes through. No Gi makes you rely on controlling peoples body parts not their clothing. Most people I know train BJJ for self defence not comp and the ones that do competitions usually want what they learn to transfer to the real world. I love the Gracies but in no way do I believe their padded records are true especially 500-0 give me a break. Your just mad because the game has changed so much that the new school people probably rag doll you no Gi and you blame it on roids. The wrestling mixed with BJJ has made the game way better and made people way more effective in comp and in real life. Your point about the shi talking makes no sense you start off saying it started with great shit talking then get mad when some East coast fellas shit talk better and back it up better. Gordon Ryan I dislike his antics but Id bet he would whip any prime Gracie so bad that they would probably dig a grave and bury themselves.

      @User61918 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Y’all mfs who do BJJ for self-defense Need to understand that’s not what it’s meant for. It’s a martial art. You don’t go to a boxing gym and complain that they don’t teach you to disarm someone wielding a knife do you?

    I'm confused, how is sub only not the absolute pinnacle of bjj? When points get involved you dont have to actually win. With sub only, you either beat your opponent, lose, or draw if there's a time limit. How is that not a higher level of bjj

    • @DavidOlsen69
      @DavidOlsen69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @r3771-n2r
    @r3771-n2r 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    4:35 yea but it hurts BJJ as a martial art. In real fights position is more important than submission. Position allows you to control your opponent, maintain situational awareness, and gives you options. Points BJJ also encourages you to get on top and stay on top which is always the better place to be in any fight where striking is allowed.
