Piloting DO-228 KATHMANDU to Extreme LUKLA AIRPORT | Cockpit Views

  • It is common knowledge that LUKLA in Nepal is one of the most dangerous airports in the world as there is only 1 way in and 1 way out. On the way in you have to aim exactly for the short runway or you hit the terrain and if you miss the start of the runway you have no go-around option and a big wall at the end of the runway. On the way out you have no way to stop once you start the takeoff and a huge drop down the mountain if you don't get airborne. With that being said enjoy this JustPlanes video showing you a roundtrip flight on SITA AIR Dornier 228 from Kathmandu to Lukla and back with all the cockpit views, a cabin window view on landing in Lukla as well as the airport overviews of the same plane landing and taking off. The complete download it nearly 5 hours long and has many more flights in/out of Lukla as well as around Nepal.

      if you got chance to visit nepal dont fly with domestic airlines of nepal,its okay with international flights of nepal bt not domestic coz when you fly you are not sure you reached to destination or not,until unless plane dosent land you have to pray contineously to god,just litrelly take god name until it landed thats the rule of domestic airlines 🤣

    This is the best aviation video ever. Not only is the only route worth watching the whole flight because of the montains but all the different views give a clear understanding of the magnificent place and dangers during the whole adventure. Not to mention the nervous exclamations from the passengers in the take off. And the relief and laughs after it.

I was showing my wife what I did how my journey took place on an adventure I will never forget , it was such a beautiful time I spent in Nepal from my luxury hotel in Kathmandu to the gruelling challenges that laid ahead for my Everest base camp journey. I landed at lukla airport after checkpoints we started walking straight to Phakding for the night . I’ll be coming back I think because all this covid restrictions has made me go crazy I want to go places so I’m going to take my son this time so he can see for himself how amazing it is there in those magical mountains 🥰

    That was a great takeoff and a beautiful day for flying. Amazing plane, and that terrain and landscape is so beautiful. Amazing pilots and that landing was great. It's really a great view from inside a plane looking out but that's a lot of turning to avoid the terrain. Then you went into the cabin window view and that propeller is beautiful to see. From that window, you can see the amazing terrain and mountains. From the cockpit to the cabin's window, both were amazing to see while landing. The outside camera was awesome, that was some great plane spotting. To see how they land and takeoff from the outside was amazing to see. For the takeoff out of there, I had a good chuckle when I heard the passengers, it was awesome. Talk about a steep and crazy takeoff as well. Still beautiful just like it was when you landed there but when you pass all the mountains, it's smooth sailing. I know this airport is short and could be dangerous, but these pilots know what they're doing. I'm not afraid of flying, but if I went there, I wouldn't be nervous unless the weather changed. I know these pilots wouldn't go there or leave if the weather was bad but we all know that weather can change. Also, these pilots are well trained for this airport. Anyways, very awesome video. I really did love it.

    Flying in Twin Otter or Dornier of Nepalese airlines are always a thrilling, scary and exciting experience at the same time. These small planes fly at very low altitudes (most of the times) or at very high altitude (almost every flight is a mountain flight), between the valleys with high bents and turns, extreme vibrations in the aircraft and turbulence throughout the flight. These planes have flight ranging from 15m to around an hour, however one might get jet lagged due to the vibrations in the craft.
    I personally think Dorniers fly at high speeds than twin otters but twin otters are the much comfortable between the two. But ones gotta pay huge thanks to the flight crews for their regular work of flying these risky aircraft throughout the year.

    Didn't hear anyone cheer. Do they cheer, the passengers?

    Why does the yoke on the left pilot look like it has a wooden panel added to it like a makeshift yoke lol? Surprised no one commented about that.

    Easy landing at Lukla....Runway has steep Up-hill grade and also Arrestor Wall (Hit & Stop)...nothing difficult here...!

      Thats right... not the easiest place to fly in/out of and probably not the most relaxed for the passengers either.

    Why didn’t you leave it as the cockpit view when landing?

      Exactly!!!! No wait.... They did!!!

    • @justplanes
      @justplanes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what you mean... the cockpit view landing is on the video. After that we also show the passenger cabin view landing as well as the landing seen from the airport./

      @@justplanes I think he did what I did.... skipped forward to the landing and found the side window one, not realising there was also a cockpit view.

    I know I wouldn’t like to fly up there in a plane but for some misguided reason I’ve always felt safer in a helo, my favourite is the shithook
